This place is also the Donner Lake Overlook. More people should get off I 80 and take Donner Summit Road. If you do so, you'll pass McGlashan Point. Park, get our, climb onto the granite, and take some photos. But be sure to read up on the geology of the view from McGlashan Point. At the overlook, you're basically standing on the eastern escarpment of the fault that lifted the Sierra Nevada Mountains.
