I’ve really struggled with not wanting to leave a bad review, but my experience has stuck with me in the weeks since I was there. I made an appointment with Stan, who was highly recommended. We showed up on time, with all documents ready to go. Once he realized the appointment was under my name, not my husbands, he sharply said that was wrong and it needed to be my husbands name. I asked why, and he replied “well, that’s how it’s always been done”. Okay, not great but we decide to continue. He asked who we used before, and I said I filed them normally but this year I was having issues as we had excess contributions to a Roth that was making it quite difficult. He seemed bothered that we didn’t already enter our W2’s into their system, which I found odd as we were there paying for the service. When he asked what my question was for taxes, he stares and says “did you google it”? At this point, we’ve gotten no where, and haven’t even touched documents yet. I was honestly still bothered by the initial comment and asked again why it should be under my husbands name, as it didn’t seem to make since. He continued about heads of house hold and that the IRS wouldn’t be able to find it under me, a woman. At this point, I’m beyond insulted and state I was not comfortable continuing. He tried to apologize, by saying it’s just how it is. I again told him I was not comfortable and we were leaving. I’ve filed our taxes for 10 years, and I am the higher income earner so I usually list myself as primary as that was my understanding. We went with another tax preparer who only asked “whose name would you like it under” and also spent the time explaining our options for our excess contributions. We were able to file, pay what we owed and were finished in less than 15 minutes. I don’t think I will ever go to another he&r block again.

I gave my preparer my tax paperwork, which included 4-5 1099's. I asked for an estimate of the cost, he stated $89. Upon completion of my return, I noticed he had overlooked a check stub from Fidelity. I asked him about it, he said, he didn't know what to do with it. What.....he could have asked me, I took a distribution from Fidelity in December 2021. Now I have to file an amended return to include the distribution. I assumed being an expert preparer, he would have asked me about the form. Very disappointed with the service. Also, the bill was $150, not the $89 that he stated in the initial interview.
