Been going here for 6 years now. They have a growing book business that is sustained by a mixture of French imports, American and Japanese animation connections, and their online presence.

I'm a life-long illustration and art fan, and visiting Stuart Ng Books was the highlight of my trip to LA. I'd purchased a few books over many years from the store online, but nothing beats the real thing! The manager and staff were attentive and busy-but were knowledgeable, friendly, and accommodating. I had the pleasure of meeting Stuart himself and he was extremely generous with his time and open with his invaluable experience. He clearly has a genuine passion for what he does and this sincerity can be seen in the little details around his store. Things like unexpected hand-typed inserts in certain books giving them context to the reader, exclusive english translations of European publications, signed limited editions featuring some of the great local talent, and more.If you're an artist of any sort or someone who just admires and appreciates their work, you owe it to yourself to check it out.

Ok here goes, I apologize for the long post in advanced. This review is based on my first and only experience visiting this location a year ago during our family trip to Disneyland. It has nothing to do with the products they have (which are awesome!) it is based completely on customer service/experience. I have known about this establishment for years and would often find myself browsing their website over the years. I never purchased anything because I wanted my first purchase to be in person ( I know it’s probably a little weird but that’s how I felt about it). Flash forward to last year, my wife and I decide to fly to California with our 3 1/2 year old daughter to celebrate our 10 year anniversary. I tell my wife about this place and we make the drive (over 11/2 hours) to the establishment. We arrive and as soon as we walked in I knew it wasn’t going to be a great visit. We were not greeted by the 3 employees sitting right by the door but were sternly told to put on masks if we wanted to get inside ( don’t mind the masks, the person was just a little rude about it), then after only a few minutes of being overwhelmed by the sheer awesomeness of the books they carried, we are almost scolded to make sure that we are watching our daughter because their store deals in higher end and rare books. I’m not faulting the guy for assuming that I didn’t know what type of store they are but his tone/demeanor could have been better. Of course I had already told my wife the type of store this was and she was watching our daughter closely so I could get the books I wanted as part of my anniversary gift from her. While trying to browse, the same rude employee is yelling the entire time at his two coworkers about messing something up (I believe it was related to online orders or catalog). I mean this guy was being so disrespectful to them all while customers are inside the store, who does that! My wife had enough and decided to go outside with our daughter, i quickly made a few book selections and went straight to pay. I was in there for 20 minutes at the most and just barely managed to look at 1 1/2 aisles. I was ready to buy MANY books but only selected 2 as I was ready to leave and my wife was as well. The rude employee did end up apologizing during my checkout process for the yelling but I felt it was too little too late. My experience was completely soured, I had been wanting to come for years. I paid for my two books and left. The other 2 employees never said a word, the experience was all from one guy. I don’t know if he was their superior but I really hope not. I really hope that person is no longer there and those other 2 employees have a better work environment. The products here are amazing and deserve 5 stars, but that one person just really needs to treat people better. I wish I would have written this as soon as it happened but I was on vacation trying to enjoy it to the max with my family. I was going through some art books earlier and came across the ones I purchased here and it all came back to me. Planning to visit California again in the near future, I would like to visit the shop again and hope my next experience is as good as their products.

This place has a wide selection of books and is very unique! What I really don't like about this place thought is the boss clerk audibly high roading, berating, and whining to his coworkers. I've been to this place 10 times this year. Each time the male Black boss clerk is talking down to his female Asian coworker. He's high roading her using the royal "you" while talking, and instead of asking questions and providing a framework to improve on any actual opportunities of improvement during the appropriate private time, he instead berates her with the royal "you", not only audibly belittling her, but comparing her to other coworkers who he deems equally if not more deficient, while the store has shoppers in it.One time I was in the store for like 15 mins, minding my own business looking at the comic TPBs, and the boss guy walked by a stock boy who was on the ground doing the dirty work, and he comes by and snidely criticizes the way he was temporarily moving the books aside to clean the area. He insinuated that the books were being handled too roughly. Which the stock boy had to assure him they were fine. The stock boy did it in such a way to just write off the guy, as if its just another annoyance the guy just HAD to voice while he was otherwise competently doing his job minding his own business. My god. I've been a shop owner for 20 years and if anyone in a position of authority acting in this behavior in front of customers or in private worked in my shop, he would be let go immediately. How can this type of person get to a position of any sort of supervision and be so unequipped of the the tools to do it effectively.I feel so bad for these other workers. They are in a shop that is unique, having access to literature and a space that probably compelled them to apply in the first place. But OF COURSE there's some needlessly "perfectionist" they have to put up with whom can't see the immeasurable long term damage he is doing to the shop. Its so sad to see these coworkers in real time getting the life drained from them. Just look at their faces, they are miserable there. I hope the head clerk has a chance to read this. Either quit and find a job where he doesn't have to project the dissatisfaction with his life onto his coworkers, or really wake up and see how he's one of the worst elements of the store and why customers like myself who has spent over $1000 there already hesitate to do any return business.

I was stopping by to pick up some books with my cousin who was in the area visiting. Great selection of books and very friendly staff! In fact, I locked myself out of my car and a very kind (and ingenuitive) worker helped me unlock my car! 10/10 am excited to stop by again!

A hidden gem for Torrance and Southern California in general. If you are an artist or illustrator, this is your private Disneyland. If you are an avid comic book reader, this is the place to find the curated hidden gems Barnes and Nobles doesn't have. Highly recommend.

This is the best bookstore I've ever been to thus far. It was a random find while I was in the area. Stepping in here feels like the grown version of buying comic books every first Sunday of every month, except you get to see what happens behind the scenes as well as finding the most random yet completely fitting books in this bookstore. I can seriously fall asleep in here and just wake up then continue browsing. Just randomly flipping through all the books.. sounds like a relaxing few weird days. The prices are very sound or at least appears that way. I would definitely return.

Found a book that I've been searching for for quite a while. Incredible packaging, you can tell they care. Also, received an unexpected refund on postage. Excellent experience, highly recommended!

I'm a small bookseller. I've purchased all kinds of books, used and new, from many booksellers. I've never seen such accurate descriptions of books, and that's so important for resellers. Likewise, the way he packs his books for a safe delivery is second to none. I am looking through his site at least three times per week. I highly recommend Stuart Ng.
