10AM - 8PM
6316 CA-27 Suite 2180, Woodland Hills“I wandered through the mall as usual to discover this amazing used bookstore on the second floor. I had no idea they'd moved in! I'm so excited to have found them. They have a great selection. Lots of leatherbound books, paperbacks, as well as fun collectibles. Great place.”
“Clean, well-lighted bookstore. Pricey, but not overly so. Most hardcovers are $14 while paperbacks range from $3 to $7. As such, some deals are to be had, especially for academic press hardcovers. Very good selection of history books in particular. Parking in the rear. The owner seems to be the only employee: sweet man, given to self-depricating and grandfatherly jokes; chaty but endearing.”
“I stopped at Small World Books while on vacation and found a really interesting, niche book. I was impressed by the sheer volume of books in this shop! Something for everyone, for sure. Their shop cat is just the cutest thing.”
11AM - 9PM
512 Santa Monica Blvd, Santa Monica“This is one of the best stores I have ever been to while visiting LA. The owner was very very kind and I purchased several books from here that is very helpful spiritually and mentally.”
11:30AM - 5PM
218 Pier Ave, Santa Monica“One of my favorite used books and records stores. I’ve been going here for years! I could be here for hours going through the books and the records. Rocco, the owner, knows his store from front to back and has an exceptional collection of first editions. This store is tucked away off the busy streets and is a gem in the neighborhood.”
“I stopped here after eating at a cafe nearby. I'm an avid reader and visit bookstores every time I get a chance. I ended up buying a new fiction novel. The cashier was friendly and even helped us look for a discounted book. If you're ever in the area, I recommend stopping by!”
“Beautiful, well-stocked bookstore.
Lots of nice gift ideas.
There are also many places to relax and read, as well as a Starbucks in the middle of the bookstore.”
11:00 AM - 6:00 PM
3822 Cross Creek Rd, Malibu“I mean it's a bookstore right near the beach...I don't need to say much! This was my daughter's and I last stop in California before we headed home and it was cute. It is a tiny tiny store, so I was shocked to see that they had such a collection, and the book sellers were friendly and helpful. We recommend!”
“The shamash on my electric hanukkiah spontaneously shorted, so I needed to figure out if it required a rewire or if I just needed a new bulb.Yehi oh %$.My Mama suggested that I go to Shalom House (where she'd purchased it for me) and ask them for help. Hanukkiot aren't cheap, so I figured I would start with asking for help before replacing the whole thing.I walked in and while I don't think David, the owner, remembered me exactly (and to be fair, it'd probably been about 15 years since I'd last been in) he definitely knew who my mom was when I described her. We've been Shalom House customers for probably close to 30 years, so that's a lot of Mama's shopping.I showed David the issue, and he very matter-of-factly pointed out that the plug actually had two fuses in it. We took out the fried fuse, and suddenly the hanukkiah lit up. We were still without a shamash though, so he looked at me and said "You don't really want to buy a whole set of replacement bulbs, do you? You just need the one and it doesn't have to match? Give me a minute".He came back with a bulb which he then proceeded to screw into the center and it worked perfectly. I thanked him profusely and asked how much I owed him. He smiled, shook his head, and told me me "Happy Hanukkah. Now go light a hanukkiah".Mensches, the lot of them. And that, my friends, is why we adore this place.”
“A nice little bookstore and crystal shop. They have a great selection of spiritual books on a variety of topics from Buddhism to witchcraft, and a variety of candles, incense, etc. They also sell a variety of (mostly smaller) crystals (they have bigger stuff next door at the Mystic Journey Crystal shop).
Great variety of tarot cards here too. They have a display version of either most or all of the decks they sell so you can look through them. It's really nice to see the layout and feel the cards before you buy them.
They offer readings here too and have a variety of practitioners to choose from. There's also a cute courtyard where you can sit and they have events out there.”

“Went to this store a few years ago, it was truly a diamond in the rough that had a good amount of books and tools for its size. The employee was quite informative of what I was needing help with.”

“One of the most veteran and special literary organizations, venues, and bookstores around. The staff and board are constantly growing and expanding what they include and bring in for their programming. Their small bookstore is humble, but carries titles that are often out of print and supportive of our great local talent!”

12001 Chalon Rd #210, Los Angeles“(Translated by Google) Beautiful University, clean and tidy, safe facilities, environment free from noise.(Original)Bella Universidad, limpia y ordenada , seguras instalaciones, ambiente libre de bullicio.”
11AM - 7:30PM
1354 Abbot Kinney Blvd, Venice“A great, curated selection of women's styles make Ananda a mist-visit every time we drive through this area. Abbot Kinney is a fun stop anyway. But, my +1 cannot resist this boutique and always takes home pieces that are destined to become favorites. She gets complements and the inevitable "where did you get that" inquiries. If you're visiting the LA area and looking for some women's clothing that has a distinctly "I picked this up in southern Cali" look, Ananda is your place!”
9AM - 5PM
24255 Pacific Coast Hwy, Malibu“September 21st is the date of the 9/11 memorial flag removal. Nearly 3,000 flags, placed annually at Pepperdine University to honor all the unfortunate victims on that dreadful day. Both American and International are represented; a solemn sight to behold. We volunteered for the removal, and it was quite a task. And other than the initial help from the Pepperdine Men's Basketball Team, at least until they had to return back to campus, average age of volunteers? 50 and over. And not as many of us as you might expect. But the minimal crew managed to complete our task; dismantling and wrapping, in just over 2 hours. We were scheduled for an estimated 3. One beautiful part of the day was the lack of any talk of Left or Right Wing Politics. Only a gathering of Americans of multiple backgrounds, coming together and unified in this sacred task.”
7:30 AM - 4:00 PM
1900 Pico Blvd, Santa Monica“Campus grounds are exceptionally maintained and service staff along with security are top notch. My son is looking to be a student in the coming year and we had a very pleasant experience with an unofficial tour.”
10AM - 6PM
6415 Platt Ave, Woodland Hills“They are the best! Love to Elijah, Daisy and Kayla! Clean store, great selections, great customer service and great attitudes from opening til closing! Five outta five, hands down!”
“This store has everything you need. The staff are friendly and courteous. It even has a seating area where you can relax and have a cold drink inside where it's nice and cool. Their Brahma cafe is great also with a variety of foods and drinks. Candy is so friendly and eager to help the students and school staff in finding their every need. She is a hard-working manager and always has a great smile to greet the customers.”
“I have so many fond memories of coming to this store. I've been coming here for as long as I can remember. Usually after a meal at The Inn of the Seventh Ray, but sometimes I would make the drive just for the store! It's like a mini Bodhi tree. You can find spiritual books, unique gifts, and jewelry. Actually, my fav pair of earrings come from here. Plus incense, cards, chimes, crystals, and... what can I say? I love the vibe.”
