Primo’s Bakery is a hidden gem in the tiny town of Thornton! Locally owned and off the beaten path, they serve authentic traditional pan dulces of all kinds. Dozens of different varieties! I wish I could list them out, but I just don’t know enough about them… all I know is that they’re delicious and freshly made! The delicious aroma of freshly baked goodies is so strong once you walk in, you just want to try it all. Grab a cafeteria tray and some tongs and start filling it up! We really like the churros, donuts, bolillos (torpedo shaped white bread roll that we use for sandwiches), and always try a few new things. They package them in both pink boxes and the old, thin plastic grocery bags depending on what you buy. The staff is helpful, so feel free to ask questions! Primo’s takes both cash and card. We recommend getting there early on weekends, because they do sell out of their customer favorites. I wish I had pictures of this adorable bakery… but I’m always so focused on the food! ?Parking: The lot is very small, but there are plenty of places to park on the street.Kid-friendliness: My 9 year old twins love all of the donuts and cookies. They always try something new, too!

I mean it's nice that little quiet town of Thornton has its very own panadería, but honestly I feel scammed based off of my haul. The pan dulce turned out to about $2 each (a bit pricy as I usually spend $1-something each at other panaderías). After I was shocked on the total cost of my haul I thought to myself "this better be the best pan dulce that I've ever had" lol.Unfortunately quality didn't really deliver. Most of the pan dulce that I tried, even the concha, were a bit stale (I visited on a Friday midday afternoon). I say most because the best one that I tried, and that was actually worth the price, was the custard-centered niño envuelto; cake was delicately moist and the custard was light and silky. Everything else was like pan dulce left out at a big-box Mexican grocery store at double the price.Ehhh, I say I suppose this panadería is still worth checking out if you want to snack on a variety of Mexican sweet bread while trekking through the I-5 and you aren't overly picky (something to keep you awake on the road, y'know?).

I really like this quiet little bakery on Thornton road just a couple of minutes down the road from the cosumnes river preserve. Every time I've stopped by here I'm never disappointed with the quality and flavor of whatever I'm ordering. They're already priced very well. Thornton road is pretty quiet overall and I love being able to park right in front of the bakery and never having to deal with a line or even other customers whenever I'm there.

Best pan and imo best bang for your buck! I live fairly close and have always wanted to stop by for years! Finally the day came...my son and I stopped in before he headed back home. The minute you open the doors you instantly get that fresh bakery smell/feel! You serve yourself on a tray and take it to the front where your goodies are bagged or boxed. We were so excited we just started grabbing a lil of everything lol. I didn't realize how much we got until we got to the counter and saw everything laid out. I was for sure it was going to be well over what I had initially intended but I was surprised it was WAY less! Everything was fresh and soooo delicious!

This is the best Mexican bakery I've found in California. I've been living in the Bay Area for 7 years and have been searching for the perfect bakery. This place smells amazing when you walk in, the prices are excellent and the bread was so good. We ordered the concha, the pumpkin empanada, some pineapple pastries, and some cookies. Everything was so good. I'll definitely be back

The second you open the door that delicious smell of fresh baked bread fills your senses. Beside the breads we ordered a torta and their fresh juices as well... all of it was so worth it. The young lady at the register is very nice and helpful. We'll definitely come back every day for the rest of our stay in Thornton.

We wander around a lot and discovered this place about 5 years ago or so. It's been a couple of years since COVID but still the same in terms of the sweet bread, yummy cakes and pastries. One new thing? Maybe ? was the fruit turnovers that had a gazillion flaky layers and was eaten maybe too quickly. I would get more except I am many many miles away. Sigh. You go in, pick a pair of tongs and tray then wander around and destroy any hopes of caloric restrictions. The rolled cakes and the slices(picture two, far left) are great too and they have a sheet cake with a very thin layer of frosting and sprinkles. Much of their pastries are not super sweet which is really nice. In the big city for the equivalent you are looking at 20 dollars, so this is a great bargain. It is a great budget stop on a long trip. Very nice staff. Open every day but I think the choices are limited a bit on Sunday afternoons. They close an hour earlier than they used to, now at 9pm. They are open very early, easy to get to from HWY 5 south of Elk Grove. They also have drinks sodas and milk. Have not tried their pizza yet. I guess we can someday but the pastries take up both our time and stomachs.
