I've been taking both of my goldens here for a little over a year. We've had our far share of emergencies, and I've never had a problem with getting them seen in a timely matter. The doctors know what they're doing and I trust them to make decisions that are best for my dogs health. The fact that they take emergency walk ins on first come first serve basis is incredible! I also get email notifications for upcoming vaccinations and wellness check ups and reminders to make appointments. Staff is super friendly as well. I'm moving about an hour away, but I'm still going to take my dogs back here because of how well they've treated my girls.

It has taken me a year to write this post because my experience was so traumatic, but if it helps even one person, it will be worth it. I started going to Butterfield over 15 years ago, back at their original location. The doctors from back then are all gone now. Dr. Drelich saw my dog on a walk-in. His discussion of her condition was cursory, at best. Instead, he went on at length about another serious condition she had experienced and been treated for at CVS. The specialists there were outstanding, but Dr. Drelich wanted to tell me that they were incompetent and that he could have treated her better. He even told me what medication she "should" have been on. Note: Dr. Drelich had never treated her before that walk-in appointment and had no idea about all that had been done to save her life back then. As I listened, I could hear the ego and arrogance, but I assumed he had at least evaluated her that day. I was wrong. Her pain worsened and within hours, she couldn't even stand. I will never forget how I struggled to lift her, finally running into the street and screaming for help. I sped to CVS, but she was already gone. They did CPR as I held her. She deserved better than that. It was horrific. I read so many reviews saying how nice Dr. Drelich is. "Nice" is irrelevant. His arrogance clouded his judgement. I don't want a "nice" vet. I don't want a vet who is constantly assuring me how much money he can save me. I want a vet whose clinical judgement overrides his ego. I could forgive an error in clinical judgement but I cannot forgive such arrogance. I will never return to Butterfield. I will never forgive what he did. Additionally, I went in and notified management about what had happened, but I never heard back. No apology, no condolences, nothing. I had been one of their longest-term customers. I have had animals my entire life, and I have never questioned a vet before.

We had to put our dog Chico down after 15 years and it was very emotional, the staff was great they put us in a private room and explained how things were gonna go. It all happened so fast but they made it a peaceful process.

Very informative and prices not not through the roof. I brought my dog (Doberman) to get his ears cropped and they were very helpful.

As a former client of 4 pets, I have to say I am disappointed since they sold out to a corporation. It takes 2 weeks to get an appointment or advised to come in and wait 2+ hours and pay an additional $89.00 to be seen. After doing that I paid $425.00 for lab tests that did not address my concern. made second appointment gave Info to Tech, Dr. came in and did not address my concerns either, just recommended another round of the same tests! I had to push the envelope Oh by the way that was an additional $200.00 to get her to look into the ears where a massive infection was, but still didn't address her lack of mobility in rear legs. By the way, that was an additional $200.00 because they didn't look the first time.. Said he must be sensitive. No call back or response to my texts either. What appended to this place.? Just another money exploitation company sold to a corportation from founding vets. Stay away

used to be an incredible animal hospital. After the founding principals left it became a a less than pleasant place. Overbooked, unnecessary lab test, young vets and if you were a client of 7 years, you still had to wait two weeks to see a vet or go to the ER. What's worse, you can come in for a same day appointment wait 2-3 hours and pay an extra $89.00!\nI spent 400.00 for my visit all I got were lab tests, that didn't address the original problem I brought him in for. And on the follow-up I couldn't even see the original Vet. The icing on the cake was the new vet two weeks later wanted to do the same tests again.\nStaff is all young and no personal contact, What happened Dr. K******? are you strictly for profit now??\nI'd recommend finding another vet.

Went here for 8 years but now they can't even accommodate an emergency vet visit appt unless you show up at 7:30am in morning and wait around all day in hopes of being seen.

Late last year I had a situation with my dog (Oliver) who was in need of fluids because he had been vomiting for 3 days. No way in hell could I get a veterinarian from Butterfield to see him, even though Oliver was a patient. Absolutely no help from Butterfield, as well as any other veterinarian in the surrounding areas including emergency vets. Some time later I was able to have Oliver seen by Dr. Fox, who was treating Oliver for heart issues. Dr. Fox totally efficient, no nonsense, and caring. He saved my lovely boy Oliver for a number of months under his supervision. A couple of weeks ago I had Oliver euthanized, which we all know is a horrible experience. By this time I learned Dr. Fox retired, however Dr. Drelich and a young woman by the name of Maddy made my experience as painless as it could be. They were wonderful, caring and even wrapping Oliver in a blanket for me to hold until it was over. I was beyond anger when I could not get an appointment for Oliver and afraid he would die, and the staff appeared uncompassionate. I didn't mince words. However, I saw for the past couple of months the personnel attitude has had a remarkable change. I do believe it was the ugly time of COVID at it's peak (unfortunately climbing again) and many, many people adopting pets for comfort. I hope all patients are treated as well as I was when I needed their compassion most.

Super disappointed to update this. I came here for years with lilu and ways always pleased, then we moved away for a few years. Lilu is diabetic so insulin is a big concern, when I moved an hour north of butterfield a few months ago I made an appointment to stop in and just get a prescription. The vet gave me one, but gave me the sad news that lilu was having neurological issues. A week later she had her episode that resulted in my review with the overnight vet. Mistakes happen, I should have been more proactive about checking her blood sugar myself, but that misdiagnosis neatly killed lilu. I then go back and see a different vet who seemed great. He wanted a blood sugar draw in a week, which I drove the hour down to do. He then asked for a second draw in a few weeks. A few weeks later I make an appointment for Saturday morning to do the blood draw and schedule an insulin refill. Three days later I get a call saying that the vet won't authorize the insulin refill unless I skip work the next day to drive her down for a full curve. I explain that's not possible, not only was I told the vet only wanted a single draw not a full day curve previously, but I'm nearly running out of insulin. The tech just didn't care, I offer alternatives, doing a curve from home which previous vets have been fine with or coming in later next week. Both alternatives were unacceptable so we went back and worry for a few more minutes, but things deteriorated from there. I ended up screaming f*** out of frustration realizing the vet was going to refuse to refill the insulin refill that I did not have an alternative source for given the situation. Eventually a second staff member got on the phone, lied about what the first rep had said repeatedly, that no refill would be authorized without a full curve on 24 hours notice, and that they would authorize one refill as long as I came in next week. I was also threatened with losing access to the vet if I cursed at staff member, which never happened. I agreed to take one day off next week, they said they'd authorize the insulin refill and things were left there. You'll probably be unsurprised at this point to learn the vet never did send the refill authorization in leaving me scrambling. I dint know what is going on with vets since covid. Whether they're just overworked, staff turnover is resulting in incompetence, or miscommunication is becoming a bigger issue but this is now multiple serious issues I've run into over the last few months. Just looking through the other recent reviews this seems to be a constant theme recently.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!! I was so worried about my dog and found this wonderful clinic! Not only did they get me a same day appointment, but the staff and doctor were absolutely wonderful. They were up front and honest about my dog's treatment and made me feel emotionally better about his overall recovery. My boy is doing much better and is still on the road to recovery. He is so much happier now! Thank you!! I have found my vet for life!!

I have been going to this vet for the last 6 years and I feel like it's time to find a new one. The doctors are extremely nice, especially Dr. Drelich, but I wish I could say the same for their support staff and their operations in general. Here are some examples: 1. They could better communicate their ever-changing covid policies. When covid first hit, they did not allow anyone in the office and we all had to wait in our cars and check in by calling/texting. I had no idea of the change and accidentally walked in with my dog, looking like a deer in headlights. It makes total sense and they kept this new rule in place for awhile, but why wasn't this communicated? Then my most recent visit, I brought my other dog with me because he has severe separation anxiety and I thought he could just wait in the car with me, like we've done before. Well now they went back to allowing people into the office. Why can't they communicate the changes?! It's not that hard. They can even send a reminder of their policy when they confirm the appointment. Maybe they did send an email, and I may have missed it...(doubt it because I get all their promotional emails about their shop). 2. They're always super booked and if it's an emergency, the earliest I can get my dogs in is like a month. I understand they're super busy, but maybe hire more staff to keep up? Also, why bother making appointments when the wait time after checking in is like 20 - 40 mins? That bugs me so much. I arrive on time to the appointment, I wait a half hour sometimes, and my meeting with the doctor is 5 mins. 3. I brought my dog in for a nail trim and the technician nicked my dog and he was bleeding. She didn't even apologize, which made me more upset. I thought I'm supposed to trust you with not harming my dog? 4. Expensive! Almost $60 just for an exam fee on top of everything else my dog needs? I know having pets are expensive, but I just don't agree with that much money for a technician to check my dog's weight.

Our Border Collie, Betty, is an essential part of our family, and finding the best medical care for her as she approaches 13 years of age is significant to us. After much effort, scouring Yelp, comparing doctors' backgrounds, and viewing patient testimonials, we selected Butterfield Animal Hospital (BAH). Then, before making the appointment, we drove past the facility to see if the positive Yelp reviews were accurate. Wow, were they ever! So, we made the appointment several weeks ago, and today we met with the BAH team. THE FACILITY Fur parents will know what I mean when I say there is something to the feeling you get when you walk into a new animal hospital and are immediately pleased. The aesthetic and the layout are perfect! Someone thought out the design of this open lobby, right down to the dog feet impressions on the overhead tile. THE MEDICAL TEAM If your dog is just a pet, knowing where the doctors went to medical school is probably no big deal. But Betty is not just a pet. The BAH website displays the medical team members, which allowed us to review each doctor's educational and professional history. Prepare to be impressed because we are talking about some of the best schools for veterinary medicine, like the University of California at Davis, Colorado State University, the Institute of Veterinary, Animal, and Biomedical Sciences at Massey University, and Western University of Health Science. The doctor we chose also specializes in soft tissue surgery, stem cell therapy, and endoscopy: Dr. Fox. Today was our appointment with BAH team, and they didn't disappoint. From the initial greeting by the front desk crew to our experience with Betty's vet tech, we are so pleased. I wish I could remember the VT name because she was lovely, professional, and attentive. Next, our time with Dr. Fox was reassuringly amazing. He got right down on the ground to meet Betty. From the onset, she became his priority, and her care mattered to him. He conducted the patient interview and assessment with her squarely in his sights the entire time. He moved from her to us seamlessly, and we never felt rushed. THE SERVICE Like most, we would pay just about anything to keep Betty healthy and happy, and we are in a position to back up that statement. Betty has one dad that's an academic and the other that's a software engineer. Betty deserves the best medical care, and I think we found it at Butterfield. There was no hard up-sell with labs or procedures, and most importantly, we are confident that we're in good hands. So, in long, we are satisfied beyond expectations. - Dr. LC and EC.

I've been a client of a Butterfield for years and have always had great experiences but recently when my dog had an accident Lacie was extremely helpful and kind. I am always impressed with her professionalism and kindness.

We've been coming here for awhile as we were told when moving here they were a great place. Maybe at first. Since then, their customer service has gone downhill considerably. I've spoken to a couple people that have quite the attitude. When we had to put our cat down, there was so much commotion, laughter and general noise at the front desk that it made saying goodbye even harder. I saw they have a blue wax warmer up front saying something along the lines of: when this is lit, please be respectful as someone is losing their pet. Obviously this wasn't paid any mind to, nor was it lit when we left. They definitely seem more concerned with the cash coming in than your pet. Each time I've called for an emergency, we've been turned away. One time I called for a very quick anal glad expression as my dog was crying as she was scooting - literally would've taken them 2 minutes but they once again said no. When you call to book an appt they're usually three weeks out. One of the emergencies we went to our old vet out in Vista & they took us right away. THAT is the customer service that should be provided. Needless to say, we're taking our business elsewhere. It won't likely matter to them but, I hope more people speak up.

Growing up on a ranch, and having animals my whole life, I am pretty well versed with animals. I suspected that my 1 year old German Shepard had a broken pelvis. The vet refused to do any x rays without blood work. The vet refused to do any x rays without drugging my dog first. Then he asked why I would even want to do x rays if I didn't want to have surgery. I explained to him that a 5k surgery wasn't in my budget. I wanted to know if his hip was broken or pelvic bone and how bad. I couldn't believe how rude that statement was. Sure enough his pelvic bone was fractured. The vet said blood word and drugs were not negotiable in order for x rays to be taken. What should have cost $300 at most cost me $900, and then I was lectured and attempted to be peer pressured into getting my dog surgery.
