Vallarta Supermarkets was founded in 1985 by Enrique Gonzalez Sr., who was later joined by his four brothers, son and a nephew. The first Vallarta Supermarket was in a 1,000 sq. ft. market in Van Nuys, CA, with only 5 employees. Since then, Vallarta has grown to 52 stores throughout California and 8,000+ employees. The key to Vallarta’s success has been the dedication of our founders to focus on customer service. The grocery stores are a unique experience featuring a “old-world” butcher shop, authentic Mexican restaurant, gorgeous flowers, hot tortillas, fresh pressed juices, and decadent cakes. Vallarta is also very involved in the communities through the Gonzalez Family Foundation which grants scholarships and works with local charities.
