From the moment I walked in the door I was blown away by this facility. Yevette ran that place like a Union Made watch. Russ and Tony are true leaders and when you play with puppies all day how can you not be awesome. The puppies are cared for to level I've never seen and they are all adorable. The icing on the cake, is knowing all this is done to help people at no cost to the patient. I proudly donate to GDA TLC on a weekly basis to maximize my contribution. If you feel you need to give money to someone to help others this is truly the place you should put your money!

Guide Dogs of America has been raising and training dogs for the blind for over 60 years. We've only been involved for about five of those, but we are constantly inspired by the dedication and love that the GDA breeders, trainers, and puppy raisers have for their gift. We've seen so many visually-impaired lives changed when their independence is returned to them with the gift of a guide dog. They have an open house every year and graduations about four times a year. I urge you to spend an hour one day this year to witness a graduation and see what this is all about.

Hello,My name is Sam Figura. I'm an award winning published author, father, and full-time employee at a bakery with my wife. My legally blind mom Roseann Figura had 3 guide dogs from your organization, and after the third one died from cancer, she applied for another dog from you. The application went through and you called our references, all of which responded with great feedback. You gave my mom and I the task of walking down the street where we live while I videotaped her. I submitted that video immediately after. It took a year for you to process all the information, and after a year, you denied her, stating that she had diabetes, kidney failure, mental issues, and other issues that didn't make any sense. We went to her doctor. Her doctor wrote you a note, saying explicitly that she had none of those conditions that you used to deny her eligibility. After we sent you the doctor's note, you still denied her, stating this time that her hearing was the issue. Her hearing issues were corrected by hearing aides, and she hears perfectly fine with them. How was it that she was approved three times prior with her hearing condition (also fixed with hearing aides), yet you denied her this time? She's been trying to get a dog on her own, but she is struggling to find one who is trained and able to help her with her eyes. It is unethical and simply wrong that you denied her with no valid reason, especially since she had three dogs from you before and was greatly successful in your program. It hurts my mom and it hurts me and it hurts our entire family that you denied her with no valid reason. My mom has a clean criminal history and excellent health. She walks 4-5 miles each day, but I worry about her safety because she doesn't have a guide dog to help her along the road. She uses a cane, but it's not the same as a guide dog to keep her safe and give her quality company, comfort, and support. All her guide dogs have helped her tremendously in the past, but now it seems like a great insult that you denied her which poses a huge risk to her safety. We are saddened and hurt by your decision to deny her eligibility for a guide dog.

I became homeless while my application was in progress and was told it’s better for me to find a permanent place for me and my future service dog. Now that I have a secure place to live, I submit my new video of my new apartment to get my application moving and I get ghosted by Cheryl Herman. I was told 3 weeks ago I would get a visit from them. It never happen. I have emailed her with no response and I called with no response.

GDA is and has always been there for us. My wife, Luetta is on her second Guide from there and they have always treated her with respect and helped with any questions. GDA is the Machinists Union #1 charity and is highly supported by the IAMAW of which I have been a member of for 45+ years. We supported GDA for many years even before Luetta began losing her sight due to Retinitus Pigmentosa. Thank you GDA and all who help support this wonderful organization!

GDA is a first class organization where everyone is very committed to helping each dog and student have the best experience possible. I got my guide dog from them 2 years ago and it's been wonderful. There is a family-friendly vibe going on and I feel that I'm part of the family.

I had the pleasure of being a puppy raiser for GDA in 2021. It was my first time raising a dog, but they walked me through everything and I turned Gizmo in on October 2022 (He was switched to the service dog side). The staff is incredibly kind and caring, and they are there for anything you may need. The puppy raising program is a fun and great learning experience. Being able to raise a companion knowing it would change someone’s life was a mind blowing adventure, and I highly encourage others to try being a puppy raiser.
