Exciting collection of exotic birds and local support of owners of same and non-profit projects in a well designed setting ... would be fun if donations permitted a bird netting over it all, as well.?

My beautiful blue Macaw died suddenly while boarding under very suspicious circumstances. I got a quick call saying he was sick and that they were taking him to the Vet (Dr. Molnar) but "he never made it" I later found out they had transported him with other birds after he had already passed away. I'll be forever heartbroken and sickened by Menagerie.

"Every bird has a story." Visiting Menagerie and the Santa Barbara Bird Sanctuary is like zipping around tropical forests of the world, meeting some of the world's most colorful birds. It is part pet-store, part bird-sitting aviary, and part parrot sanctuary. We met a rare bird that had lived with a princess, a sad bird who had pulled out all the feathers on his chest because he had been abandoned by his owner, a bird that only liked men (and made us wonder how they know), and a bird that just wanted to love and be loved. A remarkable experience.

I was captivated and fulfilled seeing each of the pets that were showed up in your shop. Really, every one of them were faultless and stunning. Thank you for your sublime assistance to me. I'll be back!

My brother and I went for Labor Day Weekend. It is very relaxing to walk outside there and see the birds. It is for a good cause. I highly recommend it.

This place has a great selection of birds. However, the birds on what are on the “adoption” list are not accurate. My family and I spent a couple of months visiting an African Grey that we were told was adoptable and we applied for adoption. Then today, we drove an hour to Summerland just to be told no, we can’t adopt the bird because it appears that the owner is more attached to the bird than originally let on. Then they tried to convince us to get a smaller bird instead. Not a place I would recommend if ur serious about adopting a bird.

We love menagerie - both as a bird rescue that we visit and support (it is so fun to go talk with all the big parrots) as well as a great place to buy food, treats and toys for our little conure. He especially loves all the inexpensive small foot toys at the front counter - we load up on these regularly!

I wish this review were to thank Menagerie for the great care they took of my birds, but unfortunately it is not. Upon bringing my birds' cage home after picking them up from a two week stay, I found it to be piled with rotten fruit and invested with ants, which later I found to have made their way into my car and my home. It is abhorrently negligent and detrimental to the health of my pets I entrusted these "caretakers" with, to allow the remains to become putrid. I wish that were the only complaint. However, and infinitely more concerning, when we arrived home from "sleep away camp" (Menagerie), I took a closer look at what I thought was food stuck to my bird's beak and realized that the side had been severely punctured while in their care. It looks as if a large angry bird was allowed access to her. The birds are guaranteed to be housed independently, how on Earth could they have let this happen?! When I found Menagerie / Santa Barbara Bird Rescue, I was so excited to come across a boarding facility that I could trust due to what I thought was an foundation based on the love of our feathered friends. Instead, this experience was not just a nightmare for me to clean up, but it stabs me in the heart to know that my little birds horrendously suffered while I entrusted them with this facility. Words cannot express the repulsion I am feeling about what they allowed to happen to my baby's beak. The care provided to my birds was misrepresented, disgraceful, and negligent. I discussed the events at length with the owner who danced around a circle of nonsensical excuses and blaming the events on everyone but herself (including trying to tell me that the reason their cage wasn't cleaned was because one of my birds is flighted. The door to the newspaper tray slides out on its own and doesn't require the cage door to be opened.) Unbelievable.

A lovely "cottage' atmosphere. No birds for sale that I saw. Staff hangs out somewhere away from the customer area but stop in occasionally to answer any questions. VERY few toys and only for small birds. Small bags of commercial bird seed. I drove 40 miles to see this shop but I won't be going back.

Menagerie is ran by a very passionate and very well educated woman named Jamie. She's been working with parrots for over 30 years. Her staff is very friendly and helpful too. They offer services like grooming and boarding for your feathered friends. When you leave your birds here for boarding they give them 2 fresh meals a day. And that includes their famous parrot pilaf with apples, oranges, grapes, a bunch of greens, sweet potato and a small piece of peanut butter sandwich!!!! And to think some places just offer your bird seed or pellet... they go above and beyond to make sure your little one is happy. Grooming is done by either Jaime herself or one of her trained staff members. They also have countless of bird supplies and foods. She has her own line of fresh frozen foods which are so awesome and very cheap!!!! Only $6.95 per bag and they make it there themselves! Now behind the menagerie is the parrot sanctuary. With just a small donation you can visit all the crazy personalities they've got back there! If you have a bird this place is a must!
