I've done business with Colonial Van & Storage for over 10 years and they are a great company. Moving is a tough business and the team at Colonial is top notch. I would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone looking for moving services in **********.

DO NOT do business with this company. Their business practices range from "bait and switch" to incompetence. First, we received an estimate of $11,000. When the movers showed up 36 hours before we needed to leave the property, the new estimate became $19,000. The movers were in our house for 20 hours. Because we had 5 strangers in our house we didn't sleep and were even unable to take our evening medicines (my wife and I are both 70 years old and I'm disabled). They told us they would be there on a Tuesday to deliver our furniture, but no one showed, and no one answered the numerous phone calls or emails we sent. We were then told the movers would be there on Thursday. Again, no one showed up until nearly 6 pm and the only contact we had with the company was to tell us they didn't know what happened. The only contact we had with them was when they wanted to get paid. Despicable company, poor customer service. Be warned.

Horrible experience. Classic example of a company that wants to play in the big boys club with structured process in client onboarding ( Excellent sales pitch of quality service , Account mgr assigned on signing, quality assurance mgr etc ) and constant auto generated mailers at every phase BUT ZERO CUSTOMER CONNECT or ENGAGEMENT. Had to chase at every step of the process but its a one sided communication most of the times. Final on the date of pickup, I realise the work is outsourced to a small time contractor who neither is equipped with right packing material nor the tools. I had to provide tools/Packing blankets hoping to safe guard some of the furniture. They load in two trucks instead of One and to my surprise, On the date of delivery its a completely different truck ( No wonder the amount of damages with no of transfers done between trucks ). Added to the misery they refuse to fix the unpacked furniture leaving me stranded with items all over the house. Only when I refused to sign the closing contract did they reluctantly fixed the beds/dining table and few items. Yet to unpack the boxes but dread the condition given the amount of damages to the furniture. I sincerely home someone from COLONIAL leadership takes control before they go out of business given the quality of service being delivered.

Wouldn't recommend these movers to my worst enemy. Price estimate doubled, never mentioned size of boxes needed for cross country move, charge you for storage $700 while your stuff sits around waiting for other people's stuff to fill a truck. Spoke to about 12 different people, starting with slick sales guy. You are turned over to local movers who have little to no communication with Colonial. Local movers threatened to only take cash for balance due, and after 30 minutes without payment, would charge $150/hour until paid. When making additional payment before final balance due, local movers added 3% credit card fee with no notice. When pressed, removed it. When you call to ask questions or track down a delivery date, you get voicemail with absolutely no call backs. There was only 1 kind person, Brandon, who tried to help.Moved 8 times in 12 years and Colonial are the absolute worst movers EVER! If you like double talk, abominable customer service and being threatened to make payment "or else", book Colonial for your next cross country move.

I shopped around for a moving company and found most of them was super overpriced. I talked to Roni and she was fantastic. Upfront, honest and her weight/cost estimate was nearly exact to the dollar (and within my budget.) The moving crew lead by Douglas was on time, fast, respectful and followed directions. When I arrived at my destination, Douglas and his local crew immediately set up, unloaded and nothing was broken. I recommended Roni and her team all day. Great job.

A representative from this business contacted me about repairs to a piece of furniture that was damaged while they were moving it. We exchanged emails about the damage and agreed on a price which included them bringing the piece to my shop for repairs as I am not a mobile service and do advertise as such. The next day she wrote to say say they had found someone to come and fix it. I thanked her for letting me know. Then she leaves me a nasty review on Yelp. I wouldn't use a moving company that damages my furniture and then is vindictive with those trying to help them fix their mistakes.

Amazing crew! Extremely careful and professional with our furniture packing and loading. Weight estimate was low, but they were very reasonable with the additional charge. Highly recommend them!

I contracted with Allied Moving [Colonial Moving & Storage in Sacramento, CA] to move my belongings from Citrus Heights, CA to Shelby Township, MI on January 13, 2022. At that time, I purchased insurance to cover repair or replacement for high value items that were either damaged or lost. Prior to handing my items over to Allied, I provided them with an itemized list of those high-value items, as well as an approximate value for each individual piece. My belongings were delivered to me In Shelby Township on January 24. The truck driver is expected to check off each box/item against the bill of lading as they are off-loaded from the truck. During the time of off-loading, I was not provided with the opportunity to check the items against the bill of lading, as the paperwork was in the possession of the truck driver during off-loading. Once the shipment was unloaded, the driver had me sign all the pages of the bill of lading. He was in a hurry to get on the road as the weather was bad, and did not want me to take the hours necessary to compare the list to what was off-loaded. I was the last load on the truck, so the driver must have absolutely known that he was missing boxes in my shipment. Over the course of the next week or so, as I unpacked the boxes, I discovered at least 6 missing boxes. One of the boxes missing was one of the boxes containing high-value items that were specifically insured. This box contained artwork worth at least $8500. Another box contained collectibles valued at roughly $600. The other boxes contained various household items worth in the neighborhood of another $1000. I promptly filed an insurance claim for these losses, provided information to the insurer about those items. I was informed on March 4 that my claim was denied. This was because I did not verify with the driver the specific item numbers of the missing boxes with the driver at the time my shipment was dropped off. My appeal to reconsider has also been rejected. Absolutely beware of these practices. You will get screwed.

We booked with Colonial Van Lines the first week of April. We told them we wanted to move during the last week of May. Plenty of time, Right? Wrong. It seems they are like the airline industry in that they overbook and cherry pick which moves they will complete ($$$). They left us hanging and during the last Week in May. They said they didn't have any trucks available. Talk about the stress they caused due to their mismanagement. We had to scramble and go with a company that we suppose to be top notch but ended up subcontracting the move with a bunch of jerks.

This is our first time having movers so we weren’t really sure what to expect. Matt O and Johnny just finish packing our express shipment for Japan and between the two they literally completed the job in an hour! Super efficient workers who provided a top-quality experience for my family and I. Thank you guys! We highly recommend this company.

In order to get a quote they required my contact information. The very next day they began hounding me relentlessly. When I told them I needed time to evaluate quotes they hung up on me mid-sentence. Then they had the nerve to call me back a couple weeks later (as if hanging up on people is standard operating procedure). Of course when I told them I would not be using their service once again they hung up on me mid-sentence and even blocked my return call. I can only imagine how these sharks would treat me after they got my money. So glad I chose someone else.

Sales rep Kevin Unmacht will rip you off, don't use this company. What he does - he'll give you an extremely low estimate, and then when your move date comes closer he sends you an expired contract saying that because you didn't sign earlier you now have to pay a higher rate. He does this close to your move date so you have no other option. When times get tough these guys will screw you over. Do not use this company, they will rip you off! If I could give 0 starts I would (this is the only 1 star review I have ever given).
