I do not usually write reviews this angry and confused but because of the extreme discrepanices zipcar has done, i can't believe they still have the audacity to do what they do.First, my boyfriend was helping me pick-up stuff from my new place so we went ahead and took my car and parked the zipcar at my house street parking, which is MY property and my usual assigned parking. When we went back to go back to Stanford using zipcar, THE CAR WAS GONE. We called the towing company near the area, they do not recall any towing near my place then my boyfriend went ahead and called zipcar. When they answered, the rep said it was STOLEN and they would credit the uber going back to my boyfriends place. Apparently, the GPS was stolen therefore, they concluded that they would take care of it.Whilst on the uber, they called my boyfriend to say "Oops, no it was towed" ~ and we were so confused because if it was, it was towed illegally. The next day, they slapped my boyfriend with a $600 fine, yet they said they will reach out to the police "just in case". AT THIS POINT, we were tired of the conflicting news their team was relaying to us.They called once again to fine my boyfriend because the attached keys were missing??? And at this point, it was super fishy if it WERE towed. Then after a couple of days, they said "Oops- we have it" LIKE WHAT IS GOING ON????The final push was when they called my boyfriend and said "oh we screwed up- erase the past convos youve had cos our outsourced China team doesnt know what theyre talking about and you were right, it was towed illegally"THIS IS CRAZY and they put us a alot of stress! If i could give it a -100 then i would. They still havent credited my boufriend back for the uber ride, he is still banned, they confirmed they wrong us. Cant believe they still havent been sued for this. Really skeptical if it was really towed. Just seems really fishy.

I can't believe that someone has not sued Zipcar in a class action lawsuit yet. I have(had) the basic plan which is to pay a higher fee for rentals but with no monthly fee. They recently sent out a spam looking email stating that they've taken the liberty to switch me to a paid monthly account whereby they would charge me a monthly fee, even without using their cars. I did not authorize this and I can't believe that their management team thought that this was a viable way to do business. Furthermore, the only way to cancel your membership is to call them. Their number is busy for hours and now that I've gotten through I'm presently on hold. This is corrupt behavior to change a membership for someone (that results in monthly fees) without them signing up for it. I'm thinking that they will lose whatever loyalty they had out of this move. (I know I will never use them again now)

Not a regular reviewer, but my experiences have been so terrible that I felt compelled to publicly describe it. So, to be fair, some pros: Zipcar is located nearby Stanford student housing, making it (theoretically) convenient to hop into a car and "zip" to where you need to go, for a relatively ok price. But the Cons... On one occasion, they switched vehicles on me with almost no warning. The worst experience was when the car simply was not available. Called customer service, and they were absolutely not helpful. Waited for nearly 40 minutes. I was in charge of dropping people off at the airport and had reserved a van. No van in sight. Customer service did not help at all, and said they would refund the reservation and credit a couple hours of driving credit... which was ridiculous. By the way: no refund seen. Nobody reaching out to check in and make it right. The system just does not work if they cannot guarantee cars will be available when they say they will be. It's a failing business model, and unless you want to be changing your plans midway and working through massive headaches, AVOID ZIPCAR. Stick with Lyft or Uber or whatever, but Zipcar is just ridiculous.
