I have had nothing but bad experiences since dealing with this company for the past year. Currently, l have several paintings in storage with them until my home renovations are finally complete (unfortunately delayed due to the pandemic). Although the storage of my paintings has been an okay experience, communication is a large problem as they don't always communicate in a timely manner, or at all! l have been collecting ceramics for several years, some pieces being exceptionally valuable. I contacted Ship Art International about the prospect of hiring them to pack and move the ceramics from my apartment to my new home as the traditional moving companies aren't always careful with fragile pieces. Making an initial appointment was a bit of a nightmare as it took an eternity to get a response to my emails with available appointment dates. After several weeks of attempts, l was finally able to get an appointment. Drew Porter and Jason Weidemier came to my apartment to view the ceramics in question so that they could provide me with an estimate for moving my ceramic pieces from my apartment to my new home. l waited for a few weeks and still never received any estimates from either party. Jason's email sent a vacation reply and Drew just never replied period! I waited another week until l sent another email to the pair asking yet again, for a reply and estimate. As a business owner myself, l was appalled at their complete disregard! I always endeavor to reply in a timely manner to all clients! When l did finally receive an estimate, it was both insulting and laughable! To begin with, they completely overestimated the amount of ceramic pieces l have by almost one hundred pieces. Seriously? The quote they provided was an astounding $24,000! When l mentioned this to the many gallery owners that l work with on a regular basis, they were simply stunned! Total rip-off and a very obvious way of stating that they really don't want my business! Thankfully I am intelligent enough to see right through this. l finally opted to pay a friend who works for a local gallery (and has a lot of experience handling fragile ceramics) to help me for what we both consider a far more equitable and realistic price than Drew and Jason quoted! Definitely never using Ship Art International ever again and l strongly advise those who are considering this company to look into other companies.

Preparing for an art show at Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Museum contacted Ship Art to pick up the art pieces arriving from California. They arrived as estimated, wrapped the piece for traveling across country, talked about their system and when it would arrive in Philadelphia (in time). Watching us wrap the art to wear piece, they offered to wrap it in a box they had and we watched as they expertly took care of wrapping the art to wear. They just returned the piece after the close of the show, and it looks great, and we kept their box to protect it. We were contacted of the return date and time window and someone had to be at the address, and we were. Ship Art is a responsible, very professional company. Communication is very important.

The pickup and packaging in SF Bay Area was very smooth and done well. However the delivery was executed poorly primarily due to poor communication and not completing the delivery to my apt. I coordinated to be at home for delivery and although they left voice mail messages to update arrival time, once at my apt complex, they simply dropped the the art with front desk without contacting me and did not complete the delivery to my apt as we paid in the contract. After I contacted delivery if they were running late, they simply said it was delivered already. When I went down to inquire with front desk, they didn't realize the delivery was an expensive piece of art and it was just laying against the wall with other boxes where main flow of foot traffic in and out was. Because of the size of the art, I needed to coordinate help to get up to my apt. I followed up with Ship Art and the first rep was quite surprised the local deliverer didn't contact me once at my complex and bring up to my apt and he let me know they would look into this and potentially compensate for lack of complete delivery since the contract included fees for packaging, pickup and delivery. Eventually the second rep followed up stating the local deliverer did call me once at my complex and I didn't respond. So my rating is primarily based on the lack of communication and not completing the contract but also with the customer service level being poor when I provided feedback they chose to ignore the customer and fully trust in their local deliverer although I sent my phone records. The second rep didn't call back and simply sent an email. Based on my research, the options out there for a higher end art shipment for an individual is quite limited. With that said, I'd recommend if using Ship Art ensure to discuss the contract cost breakdown into components along with the insurance requirements and most importantly who they sub-contract out to for packaging, pickup and delivery. Look into reviews for who they use for sub-contracts. In my opinion the delivery is most important and don't necessarily assume those involved in the complete process necessarily have same perspective on art with a valuation.

Ship Art International is truly a professional crew. I needed them to store a very large painting while going thru renovations. Once the remodeling was completed they delivered the painting, installed it --- and then installed several other pieces of art. Watching them measure, mark the walls, and then use their tools was mesmerizing. Clean up was part of the package too.

These guys are the best when it comes to crating, shipping and installing art. One great project I worked with them on was removing an art collection for a remodel, crating it, storing it, re-hanging it. Ship Art made that part of the job easy. I've shipped a lot of art and dealt with a lot of really flaky companies that don't tell you the truth about when the boat is leaving, don't let you know when there are changes in delivery schedules, etc...for some reason this business can attract a bunch of weirdos. Ship Art, however, ROCKS.

Ship Art International is a professional art crating, courier, storage, and installation company. On the two occassions that I used their services (for one international shipment and one local delivery), I was impressed by their punctuality, professionalism, and care in handling even "not quite dry" paintings. Of course their service rates are more expensive than hiring out some guy with a pick-up truck and no art handling experience, but the price is worth it for your art or artifacts as well as your peace of mind.
