I stared banking with San Mateo credit union a long time ago more than 12 years ago, and recently I walked in to ask about some overdraft, I haven't had that problem in years, but this time I walked in 5 minutes before closing and checked in and the lady that was available simply ignored me, and another lady said she was going to help, she came with a very aggressive and arrogant attitude , as saying I'm supposed to be home already. When she started getting my info to supposedly help me the o the lady there lied and said I've been there for 3 minutes, when she had ignored me for longer. They were both very confrontational, I felt very bad and had to leave, I don't need to deal with people like that, they have zero customer service skills, and no sense of appreciation for customers.

Joined this credit union over 20 years ago because my husband was a member and he was starting to establish his credit. I like the concept of a credit union (smaller, member-based compared to banks), but unfortunately have not seen benefits that are any different from other banks. The customer service at the SSF branch ranges from indifferent to confrontational & condescending. A recent in-person incident proved to me that they do not value long time members. The mobile app has gotten better over the years, and the telephone and online CS is decent. The financial products (checking accounts, loans) do not offer better rates than other institutions. We just stay with them because we have so many automatic payments set up and don't want to deal with starting over.

A few days ago, I walked in to the San bruno/ South SF branch at 4:00 pm trying to apply for a car loan. Right off the bat, I was told that they were not be able to help me that day or next day or the following. the Lady that was I talked to also told me that "they did not have a Spanish speaker available" which at no point of the conversation, fully in English, I requested, so she assumed that because I am Latino I only Speak Spanish, so I HAD to clarify her that I am from SAN BRUNO. Likewise, when I asked if Daly City had more prepared people, she corrected me, and say that her branch "had prepared people" but she cleared said only two bankers out of all they have could take car loan applications. The reason I am writing this review is just to encourage them to provide better training to their people. also, to be more organized, to greet their members, and to get more educated on ways they could HELP the community. I don't want any apology but just to see a change on the type of service this location provide. I did not like the service they provide at all. Blessings

I am giving San Mateo Credit Union one star. I was looking to cut down on banking fees after I moved to the county and decided to apply for membership. After applying I received an automatic notification informing me that they typically take one business day to approve applications. After two days of waiting I called their main line to inquire on the status of my application. The phone agent said my application had been flagged and that in order to receive the final approval I would have to meet with a branch manager. I said yes and was immediately assured I'd receive a call to schedule an in-person appointment. Instead, I received an angry voicemail message later in the day from an employee saying my application had been denied. The person was clearly in a rush and didn't appear to be sure on what they were trying to convey to me in the message, My problem isn't the denial, but rather, the way in which I was treated by the credit union's employees. I recommend anyone applying for membership here do so in person to avoid this unpleasant experience.

When u walk there no one greeting you and people are rude and don't even acknowledge that you are there. And when seeing people that are available to help they won't do it I personally don't recommend this place

Would highly recommend avoiding this bank. Checks take an extremely long time to become available (im talking weeks), the cards tend to not work when going to an ATM that isn't SMCU and the app and website are below par

I've been a SMCU member for more than 10 years and it's because of service by representative Nikko that I'm proud to continue to be a member. He's assisted me with new accounts, changing my name and every time I have a question no matter how busy the branch is I always feel like a valued member. Thank you

Stay away from Mike. He provides misinformation, lies and manipulates facts to try and get you to buy what ever is more financially beneficial to him. Also rude.
