The Getaway Cafe
3140 US-50, South Lake TahoeCame here with a group of friends on a 4 day getaway. Found this place at random and decided to check this place out. Our food was so good that our group of 7 people unanimously decided to come back 3 mornings in a row. The wait time wasn't too long, about 20 minutes for a group of 7, the food was amazing and the owner Diane came out personally to both serve us and ask us about our meals. For all 7 of us to be dead silent while eating speaks wonders about the food. Order the chilaquiles both days and on the third decided to try something new and still wasn't disappointed. Had then 3rd best chilaquiles of my life here as well as the best pancakes of my life. Her specials were so innovative and good that i had to share with my table and they too agreed that the food there was out of this world. We got to speak with Diane and made sure to let her know we would be returning. Not only is her food so good but her service as well as her staffs service was amazing. Even though we were only there 3 days, they remembered us and even remembered the food we ordered. Safe to say we are already planning our next trip out there so we can go have their breakfast again!!!

We also tried the pretzel; it was tasty, though a bit heavy on the salt. The atmosphere is fantastic, with a rustic wooden interior and a solid beer garden. One minor note: the toilet paper dispensers in the restroom were finicky and could use a quick fix. Overall, a great spot!

My daughter and I went in and she got 1/2 dozen bagels and I got 4 gluten free bagels. When we left, I looked in the bag and saw that my gluten free bagels were packaged Udi's gluten free bagels which I can buy at most grocery stores :( If the person waiting on us had said that the bagels were made by Udi's, I would not have purchased them. FYI for other gluten free customers.

South of North Brewing Co.
932 Stateline Ave Suite B, South Lake TahoeWe had our daughter's wedding reception here in September. Emma is who we worked with up until the day of the wedding and she was very easy to communicate with and helpful with ideas and planning. We live 3 hours away and she made it easy to talk with emails and texts. We used a day of coordinator to set up our stuff but she did get some help from a staff member who was in charge of our event for the day. The ceremony was held down the street at The Arch at Lakeside beach and was just about a 10 minute walk down to the brewery. We had the courtyard area reserved and the staff did a good job of making sure it was just our guests in the area. There was a concert going on across the street that we knew about months ahead and had been warned it could get really busy and we would be able to hear the concert but we didn't really even hear it over our own DJ. Emma did suggest for us to add the satellite bar for our guest so they would not be crowded in the main bar area ordering drinks and we did do it but it was not worth it. It was just a small folding table and looked tacky for the extra couple hundred dollars we had to spend for it, and in the end the majority of our guests used the main bar area with zero problems or long lines. Our biggest complaint would be the food. They use an outside caterer and the food was awful. We had a pasta that had obviously sat around for a while and you could not even tell there was any sauce on it. The vegetable we had was broccoli and it was just burnt to a crisp. They did not put out the Caesar salad that we paid for and was in our contract, they finally put it out but it was after 80% of our guests had already got their food. The food was our only big problem. The atmosphere was so great, especially at night when all the lights come on and they turn on the fire pits. I would for sure suggest this place for a wedding reception but would also suggest you use an outside caterer and not the one they provide.

The atmosphere is warm, welcoming, and ideal for families. The pizza tastes authentic and homemade, made with high-quality ingredients that you can truly taste in every bite. Our pizzas were cooked to perfection — crispy crust, flavorful sauce, and generous toppings.
The service was attentive and fast, even though the restaurant was busy. Yes, the wait time can sometimes be a challenge, especially during peak ski season, but the food is absolutely worth it.
This is an excellent family-friendly spot, and we will definitely be back the next time we’re in Tahoe! Highly recommend to anyone looking for delicious, authentic pizza in a fun and lively setting.
