This place doesn't get a lot of love from tourists sometimes, mainly because of the out of towners or tourists complaining about candy prices here. Service is ok, but don't expect much if you aren't being proactive all the time. On the other hand, it's really about your personal relationship and experiences with candy. They definitely have all the candies you want and wide selections of flavors and sizes. Yes, they have candies found in various parts of the world too. Not just taffy, caramels, sweet tarts, lollipops, chocolates, hard candies, gummies, etc. Some of the selections aren't easily found anywhere else in America. Variety is key here. Take time to look around. It took me 20-25 minutes to decide what goes inside my basket to take home. I find that the elder lady was easy to talk to and have casual conversations with. She's been here for a very long time. Cannot compete with bigger competitions in other touristy California spots. Shop was traditionally an old dress shop, but feels more like a laundromat or sewing & alterations service retail spot. Surprisingly, a candy shop is not bad at all. You won't find many candy stores like this one. Main thing is that this is located in Solvang and it's unlikely that people come here more than 1-2 times every year or so. Farmers Market operates on street just outside on specific day(s). Not cheap, so grab a few by the weight into your basket if you are a giving and sharing person. $10-$15 for smaller purchases, but most people end up spending $30-$45 when they come here. Depends on your tourism expenses and how you enjoy memorable candies in your lifetime. I actually do like this candy shop because it's a very old and colorful business here for candy lovers. Think about colorful candies from beyond your decade and times.

Overpriced candy shop. You're better off going to the Dollar tree and grabbing some candy before your trip. It's a pretty store but mostly toffee in the bins. Very disappointing.

This is absolutely stealing, the person has the worst attitude and the prices are way way way higher than anywhere else, one piece of candy $10 ! Kinder egg $5

Just a place I go to when in Solvang to get some 50 different flavors of taffy. Careful when putting that taffy in your basket because to price can add up quickly to where next thing you know, you just spent 40.00. If you want to try all of the flavors my suggestion, only pick 2-3 pieces out of each barrel and hopefully you come out spending 25-30.00

Don't go here. I went to this candy store looking for one candy but felt silly so grabbed a couple more to be nice. The woman at the counter was talking to herself throughout the time I was in there and not paying much attention. I couldn't hear anything she was saying but didn't say anything about it. When I went to check out I decided to use cash since it was $5.39. I handed her 2 $5 bills and she gave me $.61. I looked up and said you forgot the rest of my change you said $5.39 and she told me I handed her a $5 and a $1 bill. That is untrue as all I had were $5 bills in my wallet and calculated previous to receiving my change. Given that $4 isn't much, I gave up arguing with her after calling her out on it. After all there's only so much you can do and it wasn't worth getting pretty upset because I know for a fact she was lying. The rest of the reviews seem equally as awful but in different ways and I hope no one else experiences this because that was absolutely ridiculous.

Review is from Jan. 2022 visit. We are of south Asian descent and the old white lady working here is a racist like many others living in Solvang as we noticed this factor within half a day of visiting there. The candy is old and unreasonably expensive and goes by weight. As another yelp reviewer mentioned, we were also followed and this lady was on alert mode as soon as we came in she got a look at us and started keeping a close eye on us. We felt uneasy as well. When I was paying with my card I was trying to bypass the pin and I asked her do I need to enter my pin.. I had pressed enter anyway to bypass it at that point, the lady very rudely said "yeah if it's asking for it" .... Um no, you work here and you should know and be able to answer my question properly. Also don't tell me y'all haven't gotten one other customer that also asked the same thing.... Many folks don't like entering their pin. So I don't buy you telling me "well yeah if it's asking for it" ... you knew the pin could be bypassed and didn't want to bother doing it for whatever reason. Luckily I had already pressed enter and it it just took some time to process but did let me bypass. Don't act clueless and unbothered - it's solely due to tourists of various ethnicities and races such as myself and my family that keep you racist tourist traps with your raggedy junk filled stores running when you actually deserve to be out of business. Have some respect. This lady was also very rude with my brother. After she bagged the $17 handful of overpriced candy, she was trying to hand it to my brother, he wasn't paying attention.... So she addressed him in a very illiterate way - "helloo, yoohoo?!" Lady... you can politely say "excuse me, here's your bag" without any attitude, you're talking to another human being. You grown folks out here acting 5. Clearly many people in this town weren't raised to be decent humans and haven't accepted the fact that there are other races of people in this world and one is not superior over the other. This was an issue at most of the stores in town, just because Solvang is a tourist destination doesn't mean we have to give these types of people business, there were very few kind people in this town sadly. The candy was also old and tasted disgusting, who knows how long it had been sitting there. The place is not anything special or eye catching, you won't be missing anything if you skip it. Also the store setup makes no sense, candy for the first half and then random clothes and junk in the back.

If I could give 0 stars I would. The woman who works in this store is incredibly racist. Not only to her customers but to the workers of the surrounding establishments. Her customer service is very unpleasant and uncomfortable. Any questions you have it's a very short stern answer. I'm Hispanic and came in with my younger sister and she was just watching us as if we were going to steal. She watched us from afar and followed us throughout her store. There were more people who came in who were caucasian and she went up to them with no problem and a smile on her face and answered any questions they had. I felt super out of place and even my younger sister asked if we could leave because she felt uncomfortable as well. To be treated as such in a place where thousands of tourists come to shop of all ethnicities is pretty sad! Do better! We all bleed the same color!

Boring candy you can find at any store for a 10th the price. The clerk is super rude and cusses out customers in Danish. Not cool. Avoid this place.

Went for a motorcycle ride and decided to stop in cause I saw root beer barrels. The owners were super nice and sweet. They even helped my boy friend find his perfect candy. It's a cute little shop that you gotta try out!

My boyfriend and I (both Asian) passed by this shop right when it closed, so we specifically came back the following day to check it out since I have a major sweet tooth. However, the second we stepped in, the atmosphere changed. The old woman at the register wore her mask under her chin, and the second we said "Hello!" when we walked in, she turned away from us and faced towards the corner talking into what we thought was a phone. However, after walking around the candy shop for a bit longer, we realized she was actually talking to her elderly mother seated in the corner, and was saying all sorts of stuff I was not expecting. Amongst her comments were: "It's ridiculous that they have so many different colored people as models now. Look, an Asian woman? Ridiculous. HA! We didn't have that s*** when we were growing up, huh?" "Why do there need to be so many colored people in these ads now? What happened to just having one model? Who cares what masks look like on other people?" She made no effort to hide her comments from us, and was getting riled up just talking about the new representation in whatever else she was showing her mom on her phone. It felt like an incredibly hostile environment, and not only did I not feel safe in this cramped store with the shopkeeper who wasn't wearing a mask, I felt unwelcome as a minority. We still tried to be polite, and said "Thank you!" as we left, only to be ignored and chuffed at. I unfortunately can't speak to the quality of the candy in the shop, but this experience alone left me in disbelief.

Avoid this place. A very rude old lady in the dress shop ... my 2yr old happened to run around in the store and she very rudely shouted at us to leave.
