Dr. Romero and his practice at Scripps Coastal Medical Center in Solana Beach committed fraud following my preventive wellness visit. I visited Dr. Romero for an annual physical in August 2023. Dr. Romero performed a routine examination and health assessment and proceeded to ask about my general health. Unbeknownst to me, the ordinary discussion that ensued triggered an opportunity for Dr. Romero to bill for services outside of an ordinary wellness visit. Dr. Romero did not notify me, as his patient, that our ordinary discussion would constitute an "office visit" as opposed to a wellness visit. Dr. Romero proceeded to code the appointment as an "office visit" and as a result, my medical insurance did not cover the costs associated with the "office visit." Dr. Romero provided no treatment or examination beyond a standard annual physical during my visit. Dr. Romero did not disclose the potential that our ordinary course discussions would result in costs that may not be covered by insurance. I sought out resolution of this matter for over two months with Scripps and Dr. Romero's office. The office staff was largely unresponsive and unhelpful, and no resolution could be provided. Dr. Romero continued to maintain his position that the "office visit" billing code was warranted, despite his failure to disclose the potential financial obligations of the patient as a result of the discussions. On this basis, I caution patients to visit Dr. Romero and his primary care practice. I regard Dr. Romero's practice to be unethical, unprofessional and fraudulent. Trust with one's medical providers is paramount and Dr. Romero is not a physician that I or my family would trust. Patients beware.

Avoid this practice, very unethical and to a large extent discriminatory, offering patients of color very poor service and even denying timely medical care. We were refused an appointment for flu/ pneumonia symptoms and denied entry , despite wearing masks and refused xray and blood work services, and asked to go wait for hours at an urgent care location, under the guise of so called protocols. Better care provided by UCSD and Sharp systems who do not turn away patients.

I have a family member who is unable to communicate due to an anxiety disorder, and they refused to see her unless she was alone. Strike one.Second time I go for myself for an orientation. Nurse asks me a few questions about medicine I take, why I take it, etc. Normal stuff. Comes back in 2 minutes saying Dr Romero doesnt feel comfortable seeing me. No explanation given past that. That is pretty suspicious to me. I dont get a good feeling from this Dr. nor do I feel they can be trusted. Just feels shady, like they are hiding something. Good luck to anyone who goes here. Be careful.

If I could give this place ten stars I would! I moved here from the east coast. I am happy to find Dr. Julio Cesar Romero. He is extremely knowledgeable and understanding. He listens and provides excellent care! I am happy to find an amazing doctor that I trust!

Got the run around to get critical diabetic prescription. I needed a pre auth to be sent to the insurance company. I was passed around from call to call and had to come in the office. To date...I have not received any clarity after almost a week.

This is a great location with staff that have been there forever - a sure sign of a healthy work environment. Easy walk in access to the lab for draws. Walk-in Saturday clinic hours too, but not certain if that's current during COVID. Five stars.

Went in for sciatica pain. A back xray was which showed it wasn't disc related. I was prescribed a muscle relaxer and anti inflammatory.2 weeks later with no relief from the pain I called back for prescription refill and to get further treatment/referral to a specialist. I was told to wait another week unless the pain was unbearable. The pain was unbearable. I called back on 11/17 to say I need to get relief and wanted to see a specialist. I received a referral to Ortho Surgery at Torrey Pines. I called them and they had NO clue why I was sent to them as I haven't had an MRI or seen a pain management specialist. I then called Scripps Coastal Medical Center Solana Beach back informing them of this and since 11/17 have left 5 messages. I have received no communication. No call, email, nothing back in now 5 days. I was told on Friday 11/19 a nurse would call me. I received NO phone call.I left 2 messages today 11/22 and have received no response.I am in intense pain. I have been for over 5 weeks. I cannot stand up for more than about a minute before I cannot stand the pain. I cannot walk more than a few hundred feet. I cannot sleep well as no position doesn't cause me pain. I am force to sit down in the shower. Sitting in a chair is painful. I am in almost constant pain.I'm in shock as to the horrible care I've received. I cannot believe I haven't received a single phone call after leaving FIVE messages. This is beyond ridiculous. I will absolutely be changing my primary as it's painfully obvious that no help can be gained from this practice.

CHECK-UP ! We thought it was about time I had a state of health check-up so my wife made an appointment for me here last Friday for 11am with Dr Romero. I arrived early as instructed and after a short wait a nurse named Sheila asked me to come through. After checking my weight, blood pressure and asking a few questions Sheila left me alone in the exam room to wait for the good doctor. Dr Romero knocked and walked in shortly after 11am. I've seen this doctor before and he is a pretty straight forward operator. We had a chat and then he asked me a few questions relating to my check-up. He recommended I should get a Pneumonia shot and a Shingles shot...I told him I would discuss it with my wife. The doctor asked that I get some blood work done in the next few days and scheduled that for me. So today ( Friday, Nov 19th ) my wife and I hit the road very early to get blood work done. We arrived about 7am ( we had to fast ) and the cheerful receptionist ushered us through to the lab. A lab nurse named Theresa asked us to briefly fill in a form and take a seat. I was called through first and Theresa was very gentle sucking blood out of my right arm. My wife followed and we were done & dusted within 10 minutes. We're lucky this medical center is less than 5 minutes from home !

Very slow response time when trying to make an appointment. Customer service is not very good. This location is not as good as other Scripps locations.

Scripps management is just bad. Phones aren't answered in a timely fashion, and they make you wait after answering the phone. It is as if they believe patient's time is worth zero.

I've had great experiences throughout the three years I've been coming here. I've had labs, X-rays, and appointments throughout and have had great experiences each time .

Never ever book your annual preventative appointment here!I ended up paying over $700 here they told me you came with pre-existing problems, and it will not be counted as preventative appointment. The doctor did not give me any prescription or referal for the problem I just let him know but they charged me for all the test and office visit out of pocket! Without even letting me know. The worst part is "Billing office", they are not helpful at all and very irrespectful with customer.I will never go to Scripps
