Who doesn't love Trader Joes!? I mean, the vibes alone are worth it. We love the unique and quality selection of food, the amazing flowers, and of course the staff. The staff gave my kid's so many stickers it really made their day.

The Aldi-fication of TJ's seems to be accelerating. I say this with sorrow. I have shopped TJ's since I lived in South Pasadena of the 1970s, the store's origin.
More of the items I bought here have been replaced by packaged or frozen foods. Inferior products, e.g., "organic peas" that are large, bland, starchy, and flavorless replaced their sweet baby peas (14 June 2022 - petit green peas have returned). Many sauces are weak or bland tasting such as their sriracha and soya sauces.
Produce is ok but costly. Were I stuck in an urban core like NYC or San Francisco, TJ's would be worthwhile. I have better choices closer by.
Never buy TJ's "{x} of the Gods" spirits. They are cheap, harsh grain alcohol flavored with whatever. Vile; I would not use them in anything, not even to spike punch.
Supply chain issues seem to have reduced. They have their branded kalamata olive oil, Bols Triple Sec (2 May 2023), and decent, inexpensive red cooking wines (Argentine, Australian, Spanish) (8 June 2023 - Panilonco is back, wine selection filled in).
2023 Aug 8 - the bread aisle is significantly smaller with less than half the selection. The "fresh" bread is frozen. The manager confirmed "All our bread comes in frozen." Wine and beer section also shrank again about half. Little reason to come here for these items.
2024 May 13 - more freezer cases added as end caps. These hold more ready-to-eat package foods. The frozen petit sweet peas have returned to the veggie freezer aisle.

I still like to go there for what I don't find anywhere else; but that's it. I have been going since they opened and I used to buy a lot from Trader Joe's. I still find my French cheese, pate, pizza, pizza dough, milk with no preservatives, organic eggs, baguette, etc. The price are sometimes good, and other times excessive. I used to buy a lot more items but over the years they discontinued many. And you must look at the labels because some frozen foods come from countries where quality is poor, while many food items have a huge percentage of saturated fat! Other than the occasional moldy items such as apples. Also watch the expiration dates!
Now I get my prosciutto, jam, palmier cookies, and biscotti from Costco.
And I buy many more things from friendly Aldi's like dark chocolate, cider, pineapple, cans of salmon, etc. at excellent prices and very good quality. And I always have their delicious frozen mussels in my freezer! By they way, they have the lowest prices for tissues in Simi, by a long shot. Costco is way overpriced for tissues. Oh and their credit card wireless scanner works and is quick!

Excellent selection, excellent prices. The service here is always above and beyond. Today in particular Billy was very friendly, and then went out of his way to run to the parking lot to bring us something we had forgotten. We really appreciate that kind of service in our local grocery store.
