I've been a loyal customer since 1993, having trusted Dr. Blumberg and Dr. Krome with more than a few cats, dogs, birds, turtles over those years. I am forever grateful for Dr. Blumberg's kindness toward my animals and for letting me make monthly payments to save a little terrier with diabetes that had been misdiagnosed and untreated by two other local vets. I was broke by the time I brought her to see Dr. Blumberg and instead of recommending I but her down, he offered to keep her for two or so weeks and stabilize her. She lived another 4 years and enjoyed her life. He will be one of my personal heroes for many acts of compassion. Dr. Krome was different but equally wonderful. Like Dr. Blumberg, he took time to explain medical issues and treatment options to me and helped me become a better guardian to my animals. Both of those doctors took time to get to know the animals and approached me with the assumption that I wanted the best for my pets and was capable of making good choices for their wellbeing. My last interaction with this office involved medications for an ailing older dog with heart failure. I suspect Dr. Krome had been too lax in monitoring the meds for my dog...and I may have been in need of some more information about how to best manage my dog's symptoms. When Dr. Jan took over the office when Dr. Krome retired, she was alarmed at the meds being given to my dog and discontinued the prescriptions as they had been written. I felt as if I rubbed her the wrong way with any question or message I sent to her and our communication broke down rapidly. Conversations were brief and any welcome I used to feel when coming to the office was changed...I wondered if my file had been flagged as "problem customer." My dog's condition deteriorated within a few months. Dr. Jan advised I put him down fairly early in our conversations and eventually his health declined to the point where he stopped eating and it was time to say goodbye. Even though I believe she squeezed in the appointment to put him down in the middle of a busy day, she seemed irritable and in a hurry to see him off and see me gone. My dog deserved better than that. Any suggestions I could offer would be to increase compassion for both the animals and the people who come to the office in search of support/help. Not every interaction needs to be perfect to maintain trust and a good relationship between doctor and those they serve. I'm pretty sure the current doctor didn't want my business, and so I have moved on. I hope that Dr. Jan realizes that she is just a part of the picture and not the ultimate judge of what's best for the animals she treats...and to give the pet owners due credit for being more in tune with their pets' needs and able to make decisions based on what they see as quality of life. There's more to good doctoring than science and medical training.

After Dr. Krome retired, sadly the place has fallen apart, Dr. Jan is all about $$$.

if I could rate this place, a zero star I would... I experienced significant bias regarding dog breeds at this veterinarian center. From the moment we walked in, we received noticeable looks. I hoped this wasn't due to our dog's breed or our young age, but it became clear by the end of our visit it was, unfortunately. The staff made several comments, such as, "He's so sociable. Make sure you keep him that way," and, "If he bites his leash right now, that could lead to him biting people in the future." Despite not scheduling any vaccinations, they insisted on taking our dog away from us for half of the appointment. Also made remarks on his ears, telling us we needed to accept how they look, even though we were interested in posting them. The bias from the doctor was outrageous. There was also considerable bias about where we got him. When asked, "Where did you adopt him from?" we replied that we traveled to a different state to pick him up. The Doctors tone became snarky and rude after that. Additionally, the doctor pushed aggressively for multiple vaccinations, procedures, and tests, despite us providing proof that our dog had already received them and was cleared. During a conversation about how hard dog toys should be on his puppy teeth, the vet recommended nothing but soft rubber, which is understandable, but then joked about a $3,500 dental surgery, which she had no problem doing, which laughing. I STRONGLY advise against taking your pet to this place. They over-vaccinate and exhibit clear bias against certain dog breeds and origins.

I had to change my Vet. My dog is traumatized of this place. Not to mention it’s very pricey. Here’s the rundown: I just came in for routine vaccinations and got updated to a new price of 1300$$$!!! A bit much? I thought so. My dog has had it with this place. He had his teeth removed a while back and rather than remove teeth in separate visits , they went gung ho and removed all but six! No regard for how much pain he would experience in a few days! He only got Caprofen… not enough. Now going in today just for vaccinations and a routine wellness check and a cytology, I was told he wouldn’t get his shots today. I have to sedate him. I told the nurse I already have sedation meds for my dog, yet still wanted me to pay for MORE DRUGS TO DOPE UP MY DOG. Again, up spelling, I guess gaba, trazodone, and another sedative are not enough, so they charged for melatonin. Why does my dog need 4 meds to drug him up to the point of respiratory distress? Couldn’t two techs hold the 13 pound mini poodle? To add insult to injury, I have to use “a ladle” to collect my own dogs piss?! He doesn’t have a UTI! Then they still charge me for doing their work without decreasing the lab price. Of course, how kind of them to show me the paper ahead of time of what the price is, so I can make an informed decision. Inform me of what? That I have a choice to be milked for every dollar, every time! It still doesn’t change the price! Last time over $2500, this time over $1100, time to move on. Tired of fake smiles and overpricing, of course this place has shiny happy people. Fu€£, the individual paying and guilt tripping. Something is wrong with this practice, especially when routine vaccinations come with added charges. Greed and avarice run this place, so many techs leave. Are people that stupid to believe we should be paying to do their job? And come back later with a drugged animal? Time to shop around and find THE RIGHT ONE!! My dog is worth more than anything, if he’s that scared and scarred from this place no amount of drug can make him forget the pain he feels with this place. Run, RUN, and keep RUNNING!

Ashely Foster DVM took great care of my Umbrella Cockatoo with an injured claw; it is nice to have a vet locally who specializes in avrian medicine.

Everyone we spoke with was great. We were able to get an appt within days. Everything relayed to us was very clear.I’ve seen reviews of the higher cost at this veterinary hospital, but you get what you pay for and you’re not waiting a month to be seen. And veterinary staff should receive adequate compensation anyways. They pay the same CA costs we all do. I’m happy with my choice.

Excellent staff! They were able to get me in as a new patient (my parrot) the next morning. Dr. Foster was very thorough and clear in her explanations. My parrot usually regurgitates while riding in the car but was at total peace on the drive home. Thank you S.R. Veterinary Hospital for taking care of us

I'm so happy that I was able to get some help for my guinea pig, as she was having some problems breathing and there are so few cavy-friendly vets around here. I booked my appointment for the beginning of the week, as soon as they could take her. Our care team worked to get my pet the help she needed immediately! I'm so grateful to everyone at SRVH for their help, kindness, and patience in such a stressful time!

I meant to write this review 6 months ago. Anyway, I used this vet for 10 years. Dr. Khrome was amazing, but since he sold it, this place is NOT the same. Even the front desk lady’s don’t have the same smile and positive energy they once had. My dog fell off a recliner and broke his leg. These people were ready to take his leg off. They made appointments every 1-2 weeks for check ups, which is normal but not for the price they charged! Once they told me it was either amputation, put him down or let it heal and have to get it amputated later if he can’t walk right I went for a second opinion. Northtown guardian pet hospital said his leg was fine, and because of his age it takes twice as long to heal and show calcification on an X-ray. I also found out that I was being ripped off. Literally, my check up appointments were half the price of this place and they never had to sedate my dog. Each appointment I had here, they sedated him, and charged a lot just for that. 3 visits at Northtown was the price of one visit here.

Best Vet in Santa Rosa! Every single person that works here is so kind and lovely. My dogs are high anxiety when it comes to their check ups but this clinic and it's staff make the experience as stress-free and pleasant as they can. They are up front about costs and provide plenty of options for care. Having a great Vet is so important and Dr. Jan is an absolute gem! Highly recommend!!!

Been going there for over 30yrs..3 dogs. As a pharmacist the Vet at that time and I had a somewhat professional bond. Yes, the vet drugs had a 40%markup..example..20 prednisone tablets..vet charge..$18..from my pharmacy..28cents. No longer do I see moral and ethical values by this "Animal Care Unit"..it's all $$$$. Who thinks to "clip" your dog's nails should cost $90. My dog had 4 "mandated " shots..$600.I checked with my colleagues in pharmacy practice and they found that cost of the 4 shots..net to the pharmacy..was $290. Now..even though they proclaim caring for your pet..they "try" to hold you hostage to get help for yourdog getgetgetothehelpfulbenevolentm

Very kind and gentle with my wild kitty who was pretty docile in their hands. Love supporting this pet hospital.
