This organization's primary purpose is to protect the Laguna de Santa Rosa, an important watershed that starts at Cotati and flows into the Russian River. They educate the public in general as well as school aged children. Classes about different aspects of nature are often held and they often have art on display in Heron Hall. They are a GREAT organization doing important with for the environment.

The treasure that Laguna de Santa Rosa is has been hidden in plain sight.... the appearance is disarming, the ED and Manager of Heron Hall are quiet and focused. They manage a number of volunteers as well as staff to do the work of saving species and preserving native plants. All this help the wildlife which use the Laguna area for their home. From the top of Mt Hood to the Sonoma County Botanical gardens, along all the creeks, streams to the river, they work to keep things alive and working to reclaim the land. Thank you all at The F

The Laguna de Santa Rosa Foundation is working to bring the outdoors to the classroom. 20 years into this program in the time of covid, the education staff is using social media to continue the mission to inspire the next generation, to give the sense of awe, to make curious, to provide insights. For the older folk, learning about the value of the Laguna to the whole of our watershed is part of the package. Vernal pools, restoration projects and a collaboration with the California Native Plant Society to conserve seeds and grow Monarch-friendly milkweed are on offer. This is a hidden gem in our very precious Sonoma landscape. Look for it.

The public talks are hit and miss, with some great presenters and some self-indigent waffles. The organization itself is great with enthusiastic staff and volunteers, but they need to be more discerning when selecting speakers.
