I never write reviews but…I got to the hotel at 4pm and was told my room wasn’t ready and I thought check in was at 3pm. The check in process was quick all I had to do was tell them the name and gave a credit card for deposit and no additional information was given about the hotel like amenities or anything I had to read everything that I’ve read again on their website and didn’t know about breakfast times or their courtesy car and whatsoever. So I thought ok that’s fine no big deal. 20 minutes later my room was ready…I’ve booked for a 1 king size bed room with walk in shower but I got a 2 queen bed room with a bathtub and checked with the front desk and said it’s all booked and gave me a vague reason why I didn’t get the room I’ve booked, and alright that is also fine. And then finally time to relax, I turned the tv on and want to do tv casting and it wasn’t working. The technician came and took a look for 30 mins then I had to leave for dinner and the technician was still working on it. When I got back around 8 it still wasn’t working…the front desk told me that this is the only tv in the hotel that’s not working and told me they’ll take another look tomorrow. Not enjoying day 1 here as I was expecting from all the good reviews I’ve read

. Horrible service. People were partying in the hallways late at night. Multiple calls to front desk to ask them to control the noise were unsuccessful. I ended up checking out early as a result. Location is not great. Gym is minimal without functioning ventilation.

I typically stay in Santa Monica hotels along the beach - but stayed 3 nights at The Ambrose this visit due to location. Much better than I had expected. Great Location. Very quiet. Good Service. Would stay again. Easy walk to a number of restaurants along Wilshire - Milo & Olive is my favorite. Tartine across the street is great for breakfast/lunch.Nearby activities: Restaurants - Milo & Olive, Tartine. Others on Wilshire.

Beautiful renovated hotel, clean rooms, and very convenient area. However, I'm trying to understand the service here. They have a breakfast and dinner menu in the room clearly saying that it's available from 7 AM to 7 PM. First, no one answers the phone, it took me 3 attempts to get a hold of someone. Then, when someone finally answers and I ask if I can make an order they say they cannot take my order, they don't have food available, and I quote "unfortunately we don't [have food] today, it's a different kind of day". What in the world does that mean? This is just very poor customer service and management should either remove the menus from the room or train the staff better so they can answer with something that isn't as vague as this.

Great location, friendly staff. But no one takes care of your room or even the trash in the room. Self service. Good parking place.

This was a great hotel and I had the best time the rooms where very nice and the staff was extremely helpful. The location is in Santa Monica and there are amazing places to eat nearby such as the bagel nosh which was the most quick, cheap, and delicious place ever. If you are thinking of coming to Santa Monica this is the place to stay. 10/10

I originally asked for a quiet room facing the alley not knowing there’s garbage collection happening at 6am at least on Wednesday. The water pressure in that room was also pretty low. Staff were nice to switch room for me on the same day. The new room has some road noise (not affecting sleep) but no longer having garbage collection noise. Water pressure is much better in this room.In general the service in this hotel is top notch, location is residential, safe, and convenient.

Excellent location with good but not great rooms and a pleasant staff. Was informed after booking for $350 on Priceline that there would be an amenities charge for bikes, car charger, and coffee and tea. I told the desk that the surprise charge was not shown on my booking info with Priceline and we were not using any of the items but they were unyielding and charged me anyway. I disputed the charge on my Amex and while the Ambrose refused to reverse the charge (I won't be staying there again) American Express graciously sent me a note paying me a credit for the amount as a valued customer. The Ambrose could take a note from American Express (a class act) as to how to treat and retain it's customers. The desk also told me there was a $30 or $40 charge for parking and that parking on the street would be very difficult. Literally pulled the car 1/2 block away and found an awesome overnight parking spot for our rental car for free. Good hotel and nice people but beware of the upcharging. I do not mind paying...just don't like these tactics.

Lovely hotel with great rooms and a very nice lobby area inside and outside with comfy chairs and tables. Location is great, quiet. They have coffee and apples put in the morning and a beer/wine happy hour at night. Many nice little touches that make your stay so pleasant. There are bikes to use and a car that takes you to close locations. The parking garage was very convenient and clean. Loved staying here, would recommend this spot.

I don't even have words to how wonderful our stay was at the Ambrose!! We flew into CA right before the storm, and felt 100% taken care of by the staff and the hotel, when the storm came and restaurants and stores closed, the guys at front and the whole staff wen't completely above and beyond, everyone was gathered downstairs eating take out, playin games riding out the storm, and anything we needed the staff was there, and also served us sodas and what everyone needed since everything was closed. THANK YOU!! I loved the bakery across the street, the cozy rooms, and the home feel, please don't lose that. May I mention how wonderful the hotel smelled! Coffee and tea and fruit through out the day was also a wonderful addition. I want to mention Leo and Johnnie and Nick, those guys were just outstanding from the moment we came in. Thank you truly!! I hope your managers recognize your hard work and talent!! because you deserve it!! Thanks again!! I can't wait to be back!!!

A four night stay at The Ambrose, we have stayed close to the beach in Santa Monica and found that location to be noisy and heavily trafficked, decided to stay in a quieter neighborhood and The Ambrose seemed to fit that criteria. Nice Arts & Crafts design, we were on the top floor with high vaulted ceilings in the room. In room menu was good and very similar to what we had often across the street at Tartine' s, which was excellent, both were. Other good restaurants we tried nearby were Birdie G's, really nice, and Dan Modern Chinese on Sawtelle Boulevard.

I’d recommend this hotel to anyone staying in the Santa Monica area. The hotel and rooms are very clean. My particular room was next to the gym which made it a little noisy at times, hence my docking of one star. Unlike so many other locations in Santa Monica, this one felt safe. Love that the hotel offers a town car to shuttle you around when needed. There aren’t an abundance of amenities at this hotel, but the few they do offer are done well.
