Beautiful, well maintained boutique sized property with large well decorated suites and good service. Built around a central courtyard with a heated pool and hangout area, it’s a nice vibe. The restaurant was small and overpriced but shockingly good food. Decent location, walk right along the ocean view, walking path, 1 mile to Santa Monica pier.

The valet bullied me into moving my car from street parking; he said the sidewalk belonged to the hotel. There were NO SIGNS, nothing indicating the parking space belonged to the hotel. The hotel does have a few valet spots, which are clearly marked. Don’t let this man bully you because he’s too lazy to move his cars farther away.

The overall experience at Oceana Santa Monica, LXR Hotels & Resorts was not quite good. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone.The check in was tough. I arrived at the hotel around 2 o'clock. I understand their check in time is 3PM, so I waited in the line and asked the front desk if my room was ready. After receiving the negative answer, I just walked around and wait. However, my room was not ready until 4:07PM, even though after 3PM the front desk kept telling me "your room will be ready very soon".The room was fine, other than there were two sofas in one single room, and the door of cabinet could not be closed.There was no welcome gift even for diamond member.The location is just so-so. Even though it is walkable to Santa Monica beach, but you still need to take a ride to access restaurants and bars.The view of my room was terrible - it faces the neighborhood, the other side of beach.After 10PM, I could still hear loud music outside and I thought there was someone partying in their room. I called the front desk and let them know about that. However things were not improved after half an hour. I walked out of my room and found out the music was from the gym... Yes they did not lower the music volume even after 10. Ridiculous.Overall, I believe this hotel well deserves one star.

It was a horrible and ruined anniversary thanks to this "luxury" hotel, stay in July 2023 on Hilton Free Night Certificate. The bad experience was mostly due to the poor service. The hotel seemed short staffed, operation disorganized and training lacking.1. 100-minute late check-in without explanation or apology:The concierge emailed us for ETA and we replied 3pm - the official check-in time. Then on the morning of the arrival day, we chatted on the Hilton app to double check our room would be ready at 3pm.However, the room was not ready at 3:15pm. The front desk didn't tell us what was going on or the estimated ready time, and instead asked us to hang around to wait for a call. NO APOLOGY, which was surprising.By 4:30pm, after we failed to relax in a room as planned for a staycation after a long drive and before getting ready for dinner, we still hadn't heard back from front desk. So we approached the front desk, and again, NO APOLOGY, NO EXPLANATION, NO TIME ESTIMATE. The front desk tried calling housekeeping upon our inquiry and the call was never answered.Eventually we got our room at 4:40pm, 100 minutes later than the official check-in time. Without time to unwind, we had to immediately get ready for dinner. And it was a pity that I had to drop out the last minute because of the exhaustion and to send my partner to go alone.2. Incredibly rude and inadequate restaurant service:The next morning, we were ushered to a dirty oily table in the on-site restaurant, and the waitress said before we asked, "I don't know where these marks came from, but this table is ready", which sounded so righteous lol.After a very long wait, another waitress came to take our orders. And then after starving for another very long while, we got the dishes from another staff. Noticing that a set of utensils and some food were missing, we couldn't find anyone for help because no staff was in sight at all lol.Eventually we shared only one set of utensils to eat and got the missing food. But during the whole time, no one came to refill our cups or ask about our feedback (the latter not desired by us though).Because it was charged to the room at ordering, with MANDATORY 20% gratuity + 5% staff health fee (crazy for a breakfast without service, right?), we left without asking for the check since no one was in sight again lol.3. Incompetent front desk:We decided to check out right after the bad breakfast experience. Not too surprisingly, check-out didn't make up for the unsatisfactory check-in experience lol.When the front desk asked how the stay was, I complained about the breakfast (not about the check-in since it was the same staff who checked us in), and she was nice enough to say sorry this time (better late than never, right?) and also said she'd take care of it by waiving the breakfast charge.Nice gesture. We could've felt a bit better. But then I got a $20+ balance due bill. And this time she gave an explanation (wow, better late than never again!) - only the food could be waived, not the tax or the MANDATORY gratuity and fee. (FYI, 2 breakfast entrees at $30 each, $60 total, so additional $21.25 for 10.25% tax + 25% mandatory tips & fee) At that moment, it was almost hilarious since anyways we had $50 food & beverage credits as Diamond members, which means the nice gesture was a "generous" $10 off.4. Lack of follow-up (much minor lol):Running away ASAP, I chatted on the Hilton app with the hotel to complain about the above three bad experiences (a much shorter version of course) on my way home, and immediately received an updated email folio with the breakfast bill truly waived, which was appreciated.The hotel apologized on the chat and said a manager, name specified, would follow up shortly. It NEVER happened.Wanted to forget about this ruined anniversary, but more friends just shared their bad experience and now this memory is hitting me again.

The property is gorgeous and the staff couldn't have been better to us or our toddler.Downside is how long it takes to walk into the town or all the way down to the beach.

The best hotel I’ve ever been in. Incredible help and kindness from Valet Dan. Rooms decor and layout were designed by real artistic talent and are both simultaneously practical and beautiful. Modern technology like USB c and Alexa. I even love the bathroom tile which again is both beautiful and practical (safe). Easy and gorgeous walk to ocean view and 3rd st promenade but far enough from pier to be quiet. Every hotel should be like this one.

WORST STAY OF MY LIFE.I waited months to write a review cause I was LIVID. My partners and I bi-annual trip is coming up and we loved Santa Monica but HATED the hotel. Long story short don't stay in the rooms with "Beach view" cause you'll most likely be woken up early as heck by a vacuum hitting your door?1. As soon as I walked in, I noticed a horrid scrape/ stain, on the wall. so I looked down even further to see the carpet looking super mangled. I then proceeded to put some of my belongings in the corner by the TV when I noticed an even more horrible sight. The carpet was bleached or stained, and it was such an eye-sore and disgusting to look at. For being a 4.5-star hotel (I believe), it is very disappointing to see this type of mistreatment and it not being repaired quickly.2. It was 6:50 in the morning when I woke up to the horrendous sound of a VACCUM hitting our door. As any human, I was extremely upset and let my partner know what was going on and they said they would speak to the front desk about it later on. We left for our day and stopped by the front. My partner then proceeded to tell her what went on and she assured us it wouldn't happen again. So you think.3. It was 7:13 in the morning THIS time when I got woken up by that disgusting freaking vacuum AGAIN. Not only was it disappointing but ruined our day completely, I deal with insomnia, and being woken up for the second day in a row is very upsetting. We then got ready to leave the hotel and my partner stopped by the front desk to speak to someone and we got an apology.

we stayed in this hotel at the beginning of December 2023. The hotel is certainly of impeccable quality, the rooms are exceptional, the services too, the internal courtyard with the swimming pool is beautiful, the small terrace is beautiful, the small personal swing. Lenny's kindness is spectacular.... thank you for making our stay in Los Angeles so special!

It's a historic building that has undergone extensive renovations, resulting in a truly stunning transformation. The interior now boasts beautiful rooms and an absolutely gorgeous bathroom adorned with exquisite tile and marble work. The air conditioning functions flawlessly, ensuring your comfort. The pool area and common spaces are equally stunning, and the entire hotel is impeccably clean. The restaurant is elegantly designed and offers a delightful menu with aesthetically pleasing presentations. The staff members are exceptionally friendly, helpful, and welcoming, making your stay even more enjoyable. The bed is exceptionally comfortable, guaranteeing a restful night's sleep. However, despite the bathroom's luxurious appearance, it lacks adequate water pressure. Additionally, there was no upgrade for Diamond members, even though the hotel was only 15-25% occupied. Additionally, the balcony offers a rather underwhelming sight of the adjacent, unattractive, and aged apartment building adorned with mundane items on its balcony and laundry hanging out. Its proximity is so near that you can almost reach out and touch it. The name "Oceana" is misleading, as it doesn't align with the oceanfront expectations created by the marketing materials. The hotel's marketing photos are deceiving, and you may feel misled after viewing them. To access the hotel, the only available option is a staircase from street level, requiring you to carry all your luggage up the steps, as there is no ramp provided for transporting luggage to the lobby. Regarding the $50 Hilton credit, as a Diamond member, you can use it for food and beverages at any time at the restaurant. However, if you receive the credit from an American Express card, it can only be used before 11:30 am for breakfast. Room service is not eligible for this credit. In the restaurant menu fine print, there's a discreet mention of a 5% fee added to the restaurant bill for employee medical insurance. It's unclear why Hilton couldn't cover this cost themselves instead of passing it on to us. The total cost of two appetizers (cheese and hamachi), including tip, tax, and the 5% employee medical insurance fee, amounted to $82. Please make sure to review your restaurant bill carefully, as the amount on the receipt does not match the prices listed on the menu. However, the error in pricing has been rectified, and the appropriate credit has been applied. If features like ocean views, balcony experiences, Hilton Diamond upgrades, and water pressure are crucial to your stay, this hotel may not meet your expectations, and you might be disappointed. However, if you prioritize beautifully renovated rooms and a comfortable bed and don't mind the unattractive balcony views, then this hotel is a great choice. The balcony should not be considered a selling point, as it falls short of expectations and can be misleading. While this hotel has its strengths, it unfortunately doesn't offer good value for your money. I would advise considering alternative options in the same price range. I strongly recommend the Fairmont and Shutters over Oceana, particularly when there's no acknowledgment or upgrades for Diamond members. There isn't a compelling reason to choose this Hilton property for your stay.
