I was in a rush and didn't realize he had over charged me. Prices made up per customer. Insanity

If I could leave 0 stars, I would. Went in to grab a snack and the man working behind the counter tracked me through the store, asked me if I needed help finding something, then upon saying I was looking for snacks was told "we don't have any. Go to 7-Eleven down the street." Seemingly helpful at a glance until you're in my shoes and can clearly see the multiple shelves with candy and snacks haphazardly thrown up around the store. If you were wondering, yes. I am black. Do not give this store your patronage.

I've known the owner FREDDY for about 20 years. He is a kind man with a heart of gold who has a bond with his regulars inc me. I've seen him do kind acts to certain unfortunate people, while chasing away troublemakers with the vocabulary of a SHOREMAN.HE TRULY ISTHE KING

The man that owns this store(Fred )is an alcoholic racist. I have been going to his store for two years and on multiple occasions he has shown his racism but usually when he is drunk. When he is sober he is "nice" I asked him for a receipt for my purchase and he just snapped at me, I stayed calm and asked for my money back. As I was walking out he lied and told the customers that I asked for 6 or 7 receipts and that I was crazy. Thankfully one of the guys said "you're the one who started yelling at her for asking for a receipt" I went back a while later thinking he calmed down to let him know how he hurt my feelings and I'm a human he shouldn't speak to me like that, he started yelling again and some other guy intervened and told me to calm down and I wasn't even speaking! When instead he should've spoke up and said " don't speak to a woman that way" the store owner then lied and told him I lived in some run down building over here and the man told me to go back to my "seedy" apartment and I live in a luxury apartment ! What a way to be racist and stereotype a black woman. He has no respect for black women and he treats his black male customers with watchful eyes. I can't continue to be forgiving for the convenience of the location. He doesn't deserve any black dollar and there are other liquor stores and 2 wine stores in the area. As well as his prices being outrageously high, it's just not worth it. It's a trip to realize after two years he thought I was some bum that lived in a ran down apartment whole time I'm a teacher getting a masters degree from a very prestigious California University. I'm not going to lie, I did cry because I'm tired of being mistreated and having to defend myself. It's a trip how non black people will start up mess, then play the victim and act like you're crazy. In 2023 this is what we still deal with and black women are not protected, for that random customer to jump in our conversation, witness him yelling at me then tell me to calm down and say my voice was slightly elevated well yeah this man is yelling at me like I'm trash and I did nothing to him and you're jumping in making things more chaotic and messy with your meddling and taking his side and you don't even know what happened! Why insert yourself in something that has nothing to do with you? There is a lot of racism and classism in Santa Monica and the owners of king's liquor are racist and classist to the fullest!

This neighborhood has lost so many of our little family owned businesses due to too much development. Thank God this little local corner store market has survived.

This place is so cool! It feels like stepping back a few decades and slowing down. They have big selection of booze and beers, a few things you don't usually see in a liquor store like Meyer's Rum and Żywiec (Polish beer). Plus, cheap perfectly clear ice! ...I see you at home bartenders I heard they got broken into recently, which is a darn shame. Give this place some love and say hello to the kind gentlemen working there.

Great selection and good service. These guys have been in business for over 35 years and it is obvious why. They take care of their customers and run a fair and nice business. Almost everyone who visits is on a first name basis with the owners and they have been extremely sweet to my family and when catering our office parties. They also do gift baskets. I love to support small business, especially with convenient parking!

Quite expensive for a liquor shop and the prices usually vary upwards. Conclusion: buy somewhere else next time if possible.
