I’ve been thinking since summer about getting myself my first cowboy hat. I was inspired by the look of a guy I passed by at a park. I knew I couldn’t pull off that look, but I thought maybe I could rock the hat in my own way.
Almost six months later and now working out of town for the school year in Santa Maria, I thought I might be in the right place and have the luxury of time to check out a few western wear shops. Maybe I could try out a hat or two. Maybe I could learn more about what I like and what is practical.
I was greeted warmly and shown around. As we surveyed the many beautiful felt and straw hats on display, I received a kind education on the best uses, the durabilities, the shape-abilities, the options, and all of the et ceteras my curiosity and ignorance required.
I was being particular, though. I had seen that hat in the park and wanted to pursue that vision. We were joined by the shaper. We looked at crowns. We looked at brims. We looked at a catalog. I swear to dog, I showed them a picture from the internet of Little Joe Cartwright from Bonanza. They weee too young and too polite to make fun of me for it.
The shaper was on it. Had he ever done that shape before? Not in straw. I watched him work. It was as if it was the simplest, most normal shape he had ever done. The only way I knew he was improvising and problem solving is because he said so.
The hat came out beautiful. I don’t intend to buy one at my first stop, but it was just too good to pass up. I’m going to make a band for it tonight.

“The wait was longer than normal but it was the weekend and that's too be expected. I was interested in a item of clothing they had in an advertisement on their wall but they didn't have it available to purchase. It was a hoodie with Old Navy written on the front. Poor advertisement IPO since it wasn't available for purchase.”

The staff is friendly and helpful, they also give you your space to shop around at your own pace. I highly recommend this place, the name really says it all.”
