We started off working with Shemeika through a friend's recommendation. But, slowly, it became clear that we were meant to work with her... she was clever enough to handle my wife and I differently as we had different needs and requests. She made both of us felt heard and appreciated... all while helping us buy the only house that made sense for us.
Shemeika has - what seems like - binders of resources to call... from contractors, to money folks, to movers... YOU NAME IT. And if she doesn't have someone at the ready... she'll have two or three by the end of the day. Thank you Shemeika!!

Our house was a challenge: 117 years old and super historic, but only half fixed up. Shemeika was our amazing partner in every step of the journey. This is going to sound like a paid advertorial but I promise you it’s not: she literally amazed me several times throughout the process.
She was able to step into any role called for:
- Active listener who got inside our situation, our problems, our hopes
- Responsive communicator making us feel we were her only clients even though I knew otherwise
- Expert planner and advisor from start to finish
- Wrangler of top notch professionals
- Morale booster when we ran out of energy getting things together
- Confidant when things didn’t go to plan
- Decorator with a flair for highlighting the best aspects of our home
- Director of our own video (which got a ton of views!) plus filling the jobs of costume designer, narrator, extra, and bartender!
- Designer of beautiful marketing materials
- Trivia master for weird real estate questions
- Hard-nosed negotiator
- Fierce defender of our interests
- ...and just a friend when needed.
I don’t want to scare anyone, but let’s be real: selling our home has been a roller coaster. In part, it was an emotional journey of losing some of our identity (we put 25 years of sweat and love into that house, and fostered two kids there). It’s also very physical: finally doing some difficult projects we’d put off for years; accepting that some just couldn’t get done; storing all our stuff (so, so much stuff); turning the house into a sparkling showplace that buyers could fall in love with; and working through the complexities of a real estate transaction.
It was hard. Hard work, hard moments to get through, hard bumps and scrapes (which box are the band-aids in now?). But with Shemeika as our partner, the impossible became possible for us. Without her we might have despaired and been buried in our possessions for decades. Now we know the next chapter for our beloved home will be written by people who care, and we are free and living a new life.
In the end we sold the house for over asking price a few days after the first showing. But that’s a tiny part of the story.
Through all of this, we became close. The relationship with a realtor is strange and unique: getting to know Shemeika was an intensely personal experience, while at the same time knowing that it would result in us parting. I will miss her. Thank you Shemeika.
