This was the worst stay we have ever had at a Marriott hotel. We will not be coming back. We were in room 503. On the first night, we called reception to complain that a dog in 501 was barking. The barking did not stop until the occupants of that room returned at 9 pm-ish. Furthermore, we could hear literally everything done in that room. From the dog's nails clicking in the floor to their iPhone alarm...we heard it all. The walls are paper thin. In the early mornings both days (5 am), we were woken to the sounds of the doors closing loudly around us. The doors close with unnecessary force, making them incredibly loud. It is impossible to sleep through this noise. The bathroom was also below Marriott standards. The lighting was inadequate, and the shower pressure was almost not enough to rinse out shampoo. Overall, the Paradox is just that...a paradox. Why this hotel is labeled as an Autograph Collection is a mystery to me. It is little more than a renovated motel with a nice lobby. This hotel does not compare at all with other Autograph Collection hotels such as the Lodge at Sedona or the Inn at the Mission San Juan Capistrano. It is just simply not at that level.

I'd totally stay here again even though we had some fool bang on our door around 1:30 on NY morning. It didn't feel like the safest place but i want to say it's part of Santa Cruz's "charm"? The hotel staff had a forced smiles on their face but they were generally nice, the same way you're nice to your aunt you can't stand to be around. It was the holidays so I can imagine they had a lot to deal with and i guess they did their job. The hotel itself is totally a glamorized motel. You can still see the holiday inn under the not-so-fresh paint job and linoleum fake wood floors. It was generally clean and lobby nicely decorated. The lobby/restaurant is super cozy. Kind of feels like your living room so it was really easy to lounge. The restaurant was ok. Overpriced but ok and convenient. (It beat walking out in downtown Santa Cruz (which is sketchy at best). Service can be slow but servers were super nice, (albeit one mistake with the "poached" eggs that were hard boiled). Location, as mentioned, is downtown Santa Cruz. Watch the Lost Boys and you'll see what I mean. It's full of weirdos and vampires... so not the nicest location and it's in back of some community clinic so that's a little weird...The pool was clean, big, and inviting! The hot tub was really big and quite honestly not so clean so I stayed out of it. Our room didn't have robes and the towels at the pool were really more like rags, but all things that I could live with (robes would've been nice quite though)... Our room also was kind of noisy (the sound of toilets flushing, heaters running, etc) so yeah, not the most relaxing stay... but I'd try the place again and maybe ask for a quieter room. We've stayed at similar price point hotels in Santa Cruz, this one just felt a little more our speed (hipster and modern, not corporate). However the Hyatt up the road definitely had a quieter room and protected parking - definitely felt safer over there)...

The rooms are fine but there were two men demanding to come in for inspection during my stay. They were loud, rude, wearing construction vests but no identifications shown whatsoever. As a female traveler that made me feel extremely unsafe. If it’s truly inspection, hotel should have known better to arrange it after 11 when guests checked out. Very disappointed in the lack of basic consideration. Will not stay here ever again. If you are a female (especially solo) traveler, please beware of this hotel.

The hotel has a great atmosphere. Ethan was wonderful at check in, very welcoming and kind. Bill at the bar was a delight and the drinks were delicious.

Today I was there while it was pouring rain. I was only there to charge my car because I wasn’t able to find any chargers for my vehicle around. I was having difficulty walking around because the area was flooded and my shoes and pants got soaking wet. One of the valet people (wish I got his name) he had glasses and he ran over and held an umbrella over me to make sure I didn’t get soaked any more than I did. We ended up having a nice conversation. Regardless if I was staying at that hotel or not he still treated me like he would for paying guests which really shows a lot about the employees. Hopefully I’ll see him again soon!

Please don’t stay there! Customer service is horrible! They have a we don’t care what you want or think attitude, Christian the manager talks down to customers and he was wearing demonic clothing when we went! The girl at the front desk with bleach blonde hair is awful too! Rude and disrespectful! Save your money this hotel sucks and has a very bad vibe.

Paradox's customer service is excellent! Every staff member I talked with was friendly, helpful, communicative, and went out of their way to accommodate me. They always make me feel like I'm top priority. And I must say, they are a perfect example of how hotel staff should treat their guests! The new bar and dining area are finally finished, it looks AMAZING! TASTEFUL modern decor, chic beach feel. Cabanas and fire pit are pool side, along with a ping pong table which made my weekend getaway even more amazing and fun! The food is absolutely delicious and creative. I've tried pretty much everything off of their dinner menu. Scallops are huge, sweet, and juicy! Salmon is more than delicious, you must taste this entrée if you are a seafood lover. 72 hr braised beef is melt in your mouth, velvety gravey takes this dish to the next level. Pea puree was the first for me to eat with seafood, felt like I was eating at a 5 Star Michelin restaurant. Regards to their chef for putting together this menu. I acknowledge the quality ingredients in every dish prepared, and I was able to experience an amazing dinner with my boyfriend. AND last but not least, ladies must try the Tropical Bird cocktail, you'll love the taste and nice buzz!

Stopped in out of curiosity for a cocktail. The place was a little too pricey for my wallet. Airport prices ! Brenda was tending bar and was pleasant to chat with. I won't be back.
