My family has been staying at Carousel Bean Inn for over 15 years, we love coming here. It may be a “two star” hotel, but in my opinion the renovated rooms, location, service, free parking, and complimentary breakfast make it a three star experience! The rooms are beautiful, and spacious enough for us to fit the pack n play for our 6 month old baby. The fridge with a freezer compartment was awesome for storing ice from the ice machine, and the microwave made heating baby food convenient. They also have an AC unit which is essential for hot nights with a kid! The king bed was super comfortable and soft. Being right across the street from the beach and boardwalk makes things a breeze. We were running behind in the morning with the baby, and the staff were gracious enough to allow us a late checkout. Super friendly front desk staff upon check-in as well! Not to mention the breakfast was amazing. Fanciest waffle I’ve ever had at a hotel breakfast. They had an ample selection of breakfast foods to fill up even big eaters, and we loved the HUGE fuji apples they had (most places usually have red delicious apples, which let’s face it, are never good). We will be staying here every time we come to the boardwalk with the family. :)

Rooms aren't anything special, but the hotel is across the street from the boardwalk. Nice to go back and forth without traffic or parking fees.

Friendly, helpful staff with an easy walk to the beach and boardwalk made for a great family vacation in Santa Cruz. The rooms were nice and the option to connect them worked really well for us. Having breakfast available for the teens to go down to when they were ready to get up was perfect.

Seen a roach in our room first night. Only good thing about this place is how close it is to the boardwalk. Also, they aren’t accommodating if you want to extend your check out time even if just by 20 minutes. Covers super thin. Heater barely works.

Rooms are decent - beds are OK. It is an older building, but the price and location is great. AC unit is loud as it cuts on and off at night. The guy at the desk when we checked in was super nice and friendly on the phone as well. Continental breakfast is a plus, no protein other than cream cheese and yogurt, but it kept us full until an early lunch. Within short driving distance to cute shops in Santa Cruz, Natural Bridges State Park, etc. Enjoyed a beautiful sunrise walk on the beach and ended the night prior at the boardwalk with yummy food and fun rides!!

The rooms are decent, but definitely not a Marriott or Hyatt type experience. However, always clean, beds are comfortable enough, and I really like the bathroom products. They’re clean in the office, which is comforting and provides confidence with the breakfast offerings. We book here frequently based on our positive experiences and can’t beat the location, parking spot sizes (minimal concern for car dents), and more. Their scones are a MUST try. We highly recommend and have had other family and friends stay here with success too.

Staying here one night in December. The front staff super friendly let us check in a little early. Room was clean and the view was great.

I don't understand the 5 star reviews. The property is in obvious need of maintenance everywhere. In room fridge on an occupancy sensor so unusable if you plan on leaving the room. Cheap flickering LED lamps in the room. One star as counterbalance, deserves probably 2.5 in reality.

Can't get any closer to the Boardwalk. Breakfast was a plus. Rooms are clean. Noisy, but great spot to access Boardwalk with kids.

Clean and functional room in an older-boardwalk-adjacent hotel. I could see potentially a lot of noise from the street in the summer but in the winter, it was relatively quiet and fun to people watch from the balcony.I would say the room did lack a coffee maker, the AC/heat did not work, and the bed had a strange metal panel around the base that we kept accidentally brushing against that made a loud kaboom noise. The staff were spectacular: warm and friendly, always cleaning, and very helpful. I can't say enough nice things about staff.Breakfast buffet had muffins, cereal, bagels and coffee, juice and milk. Also hard boiled eggs and yogurts. Standard stuff that is helpful for a budget traveler to avoid a restaurant.
