Private oasis. Wonderful grounds. Nice and private getaway. Food and service luxurious. Felt as if we were the only ones on the estate. Make yourself right at home.

This place has turned out to the highlight of our visit to California so far. What a find! The house originally built in 1874 is full of charm and character. Everything here is all about quality and special touches.
The welcome is so warm, the house is beautiful, the staff so helpful, the breakfast delicious, as are the afternoon pastries and tea taken on the veranda looking over the amazing garden whilst ready a book, and then the evening hors d'oeuvres with plenty of wine top it all off. The staff turn your bed down and leave chocolates. And all included in what you pay. It makes this place very good value!
The staff can’t do enough for you. I don’t remember staying in a place I have enjoyed so much. We will DEFINITELY be back. Thank you so much for having us!!
Rooms: Full of charm
Walkability: Very close to State Street with lots of bars and restaurants. Great location.
Food & drinks: Delicious!

Just completed a 3 night stay in the Simpson house. Well deserved 4 star, should be considered for 5 star. Included are outstanding breakfasts, afternoon scones, etc., and wonderful hors d'oeuvres, cookies, and wines during the cocktail hour. Outstanding staff. 1 block away from State Street and easy 2 mi. Walk to the pier. Will stay there next trip ! Many thanks !

We usually stay at the Ritz Carlton in Santa Barbara, but needed a quiet place due to a recent family death. The Simpson House gave us the quiet, calming, healing place we needed. The personal service is outstanding and the whole staff really cares about your experience here. High recommend and will stay there again.

The house is absolutely magnificent, particularly well renovated, the garden enchanting, the staff adorable with a great sense of service and the cuisine for breakfast and afternoon aperitifs is truly excellent. Many small, well-thought-out details make the experience particularly successful.
Despite everything, I only give it 4* because we didn't sleep well (which is the basic contract). We were in Katherine McMornick's room. The bed is located just above the boiler room (at least that's what we concluded) and in addition to a continuous dull engine noise, there were regular boiler restarts during the night so powerful that it could wake us up. Furthermore, the room does not have double glazing. Forget the fatty stews. From 6:30 a.m. you can hear the discussions of guests arriving and leaving in the parking lot or chatting on the porch (yes, even at 6:30 a.m.).
Finally, this room does not allow you to be plunged into darkness, no blackout curtains and the entrance door to the room is glass but it opens onto a corridor which remains lit all night... in short, if you need calm and black to sleep in, ask for another room. On the other hand, good point for the quality of the bedding and particularly the sheets.
Finally, small suggestion, I will change the playlist. The classics of classical music are quite depressing, too bad. Why not something more jazzy or bossa nova? Just as chill&relax but more joyful :)

I have no idea what any of the bad reviews were about (Other than just being left by crabby people). I have stayed all over the world and I can honestly say this place is magical and full of every single touch you would hope for. The hosts are incredibly welcoming and kind, making sure every part of your stay is perfect. The scenery is perfect - Calm, serene and lush. The food. The coffee. The rooms. Everything is a dream. Thank you so much for the stay - We will definitely be back!

This Inn is a 4 star Hotel, however it should be a 5 star! There is a beautiful garden surrounding the house and every food and hors d'oeurve we ate was absolutely delicious and gourmet made. Excellent customer service by the whole staff. Will be coming back for sure.

Few places have I relaxed so completely - but three nights instead of two helps as well. Wonderful staff, and cozy (meaning European in size) rooms makes for an intimate and lovely time. The food is spectacular btw.

Without a doubt the prettiest hotel of our honeymoon. The staff were lovely, we even left with a gift... The place is magnificent, it was so relaxing. The bed in the room is slightly small. We will come back :)

We had our wedding in April at the Simpson House Inn and it was simply a dream. The property is peaceful and romantic, and you have the feeling of stepping into your own secret garden as soon as you arrive. All of the staff are warm and welcoming, and always helpful and accommodating to our needs throughout the whole planning process. Haley, the Innkeeper we worked directly with, is especially lovely and made our wedding weekend and the months leading up to it a breeze. She continually went above and beyond for us. For example, arranging for the Hors D'oeuvres to be set out several hours earlier than their standard schedule so that they would be available to guests as they got checked in.Being able to have the venue to ourselves throughout the weekend was incredible as well. It wasn't a top priority for us when we were first looking for venues, but it ended up being one of our favorite parts of the experience! It was great to have our wedding party and immediate family staying all together, and we never felt rushed out or that they were in a hurry to turn the space over for other events. We were able to relax into our own little world, tucked away in the garden. The whole property is lush and vibrant, with tall hedges surrounding it creating a private and quiet space. The rooms themselves are all beautiful, and have the most comfortable pillows ever. We really could not have asked for a more perfect setting for our garden party wedding, and are already looking forward to visiting again soon!
