I live in Boston and wanted to send a mixed case of wine to some friends in Santa Barbara. I called Jason out of the blue and he put together a fantastic mixed case and arranged for it to be delivered. These guys have a fascinating selection of wines, deep personal knowledge and a real service attitude. If I lived nearby I would be there every week.

Brian, a somolier, is exceptionally friendly and always helps us select the right wine and / or spirit for our occasion. He handles parties, too. A true local gem on Coast Village Rd. with designated parking. Worth the extra stop every time.

Nice enough guys to talk to and they have a nice selection of whiskies, but the prices are ridiculous even by California secondary standards. The prices for products like Buffalo Trace ($35) or the standard Michter's line up ($50) were in the neighborhood of MSRP or what you'll typically pay in smaller liquor store, but anything allocated, over hyped, or semi hard to find was through the roof (Blantons $250). I didn't really look at the wines or other spirits, but they seemed to have a nice selection of most everything. I didn't see anything super rare in the whiskies, mostly the same bottles you find in all the stores with crazy mark ups. That being said, if you're looking for a special bottle you just can't seem to find and you've got more dollars than sense, this might just be your place.

Found out this place had my favorite gin, Bixby. It came out to $52 but if you search it online, it's $39. Not sure why this bottle was more expensive here. The front door is cut in half, the bottom part was shut and the top was open so I just asked the guy for the gin and didn't get a chance to browse their selection. It looks as if they have a wild selection though. I'd try them out again but I'd check around for pricing since this one was a bit marked up.

Matt B. and I stopped by the Liquor & Wine Grotto on Memorial Day, both to pick up wine for a family barbecue and to stock up a bit for ourselves. It may have reopened fully by now, but when we went, there were still restrictions in place. Only one customer was allowed inside at a time, but we could both talk to the wine guy through the opening of a saloon-style door. I enjoyed this window service. The guy was nice and knowledgeable, and he helped us pick bottles based on our preferences, all in the $20 to $40 range. We've drunk most of them already, and they were all great wines. We chatted with him for a while, and Matt discovered that they knew a guy in common, specifically Matt's orthodontist's son. I didn't grow up in Santa Barbara, and I appreciate how small it can feel on a post-lockdown holiday afternoon on Coast Village Road. We're spending more time in Santa Barbara these days, and I'm glad to have a good liquor and wine shop close by for our copious alcohol needs. I look forward to coming back to the Liquor & Wine Grotto next time we're in town.

Best Wine shop in SB. Not only did they help me chose two great reds for a special occasion, the owner personally shared some local winery info and made a call on my behalf in planning an event. This is the kind of business that makes SB so special. Thank You!
