Not only are the rooms dirty, have no ac but there are creepy men on site and the hotel won’t refund a one booking after accidentally booking it twice (one person/one night)I check in and a Latin man at the reception greets me and is kind, I let him know about the double booking and said that they would be able to refund me and shouldn’t be an issue.Fine- I go in the room and decided I wanted to take a bath after a long day of travel. I go in and find the bath tub to be broken! There was a creepy, possibly homeless, man outside of the hotel and was going up and down the stairs peeping into windows. I got a bit scared and told the receptionist and he said that he was going to talk to him. Unfortunately the rooms do not have phones so you can’t call the front desk. There is NO way to contact the front desk even from your phone so good luck trying to get soap from the sister hotel next door at 11 pm in the cold. Yikes! I mentioned the broken tub to the receptionist and he said the maintenance person left for the day and there was no rooms available (but somehow they decide to keep my money x2 from the double booking?)Only plus side is that it’s close to downtown and there’s parking. Bugs on the ceiling for protein and decoration around Halloween. It’s too bad management only seems to respond to positive reviews and ignores the rest of the previous clients

Booked a room for 5 nights. When we arrived at 10pm, there was no one at the front desk, and the door was locked. Called the number, the lady showed up 15 min later. Gave us a key, but when we got into our room it was not cleaned after previous guests. After about 20 minutes she finally found us another room, but only for one night. Next day the same situation was repeated- no one at front desk, and our original room was still not cleaned. After 45 minutes they got us yet another room, which really needed some remodeling (see picture taken inside the tiny bathroom). For $200/night I expected a better room and much better service.

Terrible. Worst place do not stay here. Druggies and filthy. Tia the "manager" we called to complain (nobody works there) screamed at us. Twilight zone. Scary place, should be condemned. No smoke detectors in the room because people smoke. Black mold in the shower. Felt like a jail cell, dead spiders in the tub.

The proximity to the beach, wharf and restaurants was fantastic. Melody checked us in, and she was kind and efficient, despite a long line of people checking into two hotels (our check in was next door at the Villa Rosso). The room was spacious, and we had a nice patio to sit outside and view the ocean. This place is funky and badly in need of exterior renovations, but the room was clean and had a jetted tub, microwave and fridge, and we were able to stay with our pup with no issues. The continental breakfast was not worth bothering to get out of bed for IMO, but the coffee was palatable, which was a bonus. If I wanted a cheap room right next to the ocean in the winter, I would come back. The location alone made it a great value!

Great place for the price overlooking the ocean! If you want the beauty of overlooking Santa Barbara Pier without breaking the bank, this is a gem.

My husband and I really enjoyed our two nights at Ala Mar! It was such a cute place, and had an amazing view. We loved the tile and Spanish influence. It was close to Stearn’s Wharf and walking distance to multiple stores, restaurants, and the beach. The room was basic, but we weren’t lacking anything. The breakfast provided in the property next door was nice and was a lovely place to start the morning. We got the penthouse and really enjoyed our private patio as well! The staff was friendly and overall we have no complaints whatsoever. We will stay here again should we find ourselves in the area.

Really great location. Rooms aren't that bad. I don't know why they don't fix them up. Wouldn't take much.....There's no front desk person so you walk to the hotel down the block, same place for complimentary breakfast, ran out of most food and coffee at 9AM. On a Sunday at 9AM. No biggy tho. Had a decent stay. The Ala Mar has a great balcony with a wonderful view. We went up to watch the sunset & there were 2 guys, non guests being loud and belligerent so we left. No biggy tho. Might go back. Might not. ?

Ala Mar by the Sea gives you THE BEST "on the beach" experience altogether. From the inside it was like being in one of those cozy cabins up on Pine Mountain off of the Interstate 5 in California ?...BUT! when you look out the wide view windows or sit out on the balcony, you see the Pacific Ocean and the Santa Barbara CA pier off of State street and Cabrillo Blvd. ? The Women's Task Force day & night care organization gives this place the much earned Royal Crown ?❣️Walkability: Magnificent highly coveted view of the Pacific Ocean, Santa Barbara beach and even the pier! If walking or handicap you are already there making the need for any other type of transportation obsolete! WOW!

The place had a lovely historic feel, the room was immaculately decorated, and I had a great view of the ocean. The staff were incredibly kind and went out of their way to be helpful (especially the kind lady who checked me on and had snake print heels), and it was a wonderfully affordable price for being right next to the ocean.

I couldn't have had a better stay! I had a little staycation and really enjoyed my time at this inn. Check in was super easy, very welcoming. If you're looking for a small privately owned spot right on the beach, this is it! It may not have the glitz and glamour of some of the big chain resorts but it has personality and charm. The rooms are beautiful, the views are beautiful. The location is great, I walked everywhere I wanted to go. There's a pool, there's included breakfast, there's jet tubs in some rooms. I can't wait to stay again!
