Rip off! Overpriced and hidden charges. Please read the contract before tapping your credit card. Front staff give false information. Also they did not give clear instructions on the location of after hours key drop box. I had to drop the car and come back again to drop the key next day. Last thing I want on my holiday is the stress of going through this drama. After calling them several times and filling out complaint form nothing happened and they refused to return the extra charges I paid. I regret renting a car through Hertz. Never again! Do not recommend them!

This is a weird location. As a Presidential member I like to pick my own car. This place doesn't have that option.

I’ve always thought Hertz had a good reputation over the years although I’ve never previously used them because of high pricing. They came up reasonable this time so I prepaid through AAA but it turned out to be my worst rental experience. I go to pick up the MID size SUV while vacationing with my family.The SUV was not ready or not available so I had to wait about a 1/2 hr. A guy says it’s ready and that it’ll be a Suburu Crosstrek which I had never heard of so I look it up online and find that it’s a compact SUV. I say that I’m supposed to get a Mid size and the Rep says it’s a nice size SUV. I get to the car and it’s very small. I have a Honda HR-V that is much bigger which is considered a small SUV. I couldn’t even get 3 suitcases in the trunk as I normally do with a mid size. The other luggage and backpacks had to go in the back taking away space from the family then we had to deal with ants crawling on us from the time we left the airport and 2 days after. They didn’t refund me the difference in price nor did they care about the ants. When I returned and complained someone only gave me a $50 credit for future use which I will never use since I will never rent from Hertz again. She said they coded the car as premium and is why it was considered the same as a mid size. That’s some serious BS! They just took my money and gave me less than what I paid for period.

I've use Hertz to rent vehicles when traveling before, but this is the last time I'll use the location at John Wayne Airport. We booked through Priceline; everything went fine there. Upon returning the vehicle, there was a tiny amount of sand in the car. I mean really tiny, we didn't bring our kids with us this time, it was just a little from our feet. Even though the car would easily be cleaned via a routine vacuuming and wipe down, which they should be doing in between rentals, we were hit with an additional $100 indicated extra cleaning needed. I reached out to Hertz about it when it happened and received no response. If the car were truly returned dirty, I wouldn't have any issue with this at all; but this smells more like a scam operation targeting visitors to Santa Ana. Shame on Hertz. I'll dispute the charge if I don't hear from them very soon.
EDIT: I've reached out to Hertz about this issue, and while I still think the employees in Santa Ana are scum, because they are, Hertz as a company did make it right by dropping the erroneous $100 cleaning charge.

Smaller airport without the Gold board listing elite members' names. Everyone has to check in at a desk to get a PRE-ASSIGNED car.
Take the elevator down to level 0 for all rental car companies.

BEWARE when they ask you if you want to upgrade for only a small amount. The lady asked if we wanted to upgrade for a total of $86, but she intentionally misrepresented us and failed to mention that was $86 per day, not total! Had we known it was per day we would have said no! Total misrepresentation on their part and completely unproffessional! Then extra fees they did not disclose up front to us either on our final bill. I would absolutely NOT recommend this Hertz to anyone. There are tons of other car rental places at this airport I would go to for better service.

The amount they billed me and the receipt did not match. They over billed me by hundreds of dollars. I have tried contacting them many times by calling the location I rented the vehicle from. They either don’t answer or tell me to fill out an online form. I have completed the form twice and even tho it stated I will be contacted in 3-5 business days, no one has contacted me.

Despite experiencing some issues with the EV (Mach E) we rented, which required an exchange at another city’s Hertz location, our overall experience with this Hertz's customer service and management was absolutely positive.
They were very accommodating and quick to address our concerns. Even though we had a negative experience at another branch while exchanging the car, this center promptly answered our call and resolved the issue over the phone!!
Upon our return, the management and staff were extremely helpful in addressing the issue and providing a refund for the days of the malfunctioning car.
I really appreciate the customer service here!

After an exhausting plane ride with a fussy baby, we show up to this rental agency. The guy behind the counter looks at us, looks at the fussy baby, then remarks, " Your car will be here in 25 min or you can upgrade to a bigger car for a far more expensive price. We felt forced into getting the bigger car, and after the rep waved off, some other employees who appeared to be getting our original car.

This Hertz location does not have an arrival screen and you have to wait in line to get your car and there is no president circle option to pick your own and they don't give you a choice at the counter

Had to file a fraudulent charges against Hertz that were never discussed or approved with my credit card company. Thank God I use my Travel CC. Just a one day rental and over $200. Priceline was fine to reserve the car! I'm in contact with Hertz now to see if we can resolve the unauthorized charges and get the correct agreed upon price for the rental? For sure will never rent again from Hertz. I get a more honest car rentals in Quintana Roo/Cancun than
this location at the airport! Very frustrating!
