The San Rafael location has a great meat case. The staff is also very nice typically and they try to be helpful. Their management team does not support them properly or train them to do basic things that every Whole Foods offers to their customers. Besides the meat case which is very well maintained and customer serviced, the store has a lot of opportunity. The floor is often time not even replenished during peak business hours. Several aisles have product that are empty. If you don't have that product anymore or it's sold out put something else there. The store team takes zero pride in their produce section. Most of the berries have mold in the containers. Last week, I saw an employee pushing out molded nectarines. When I showed the manager 6 different kind of berries that were molded in the case as soon as you walk into the store, he just shrugged his shoulders and said "strawberries are not in season. " When you go to the fish case to get a whole snapper or Branzino, the team behind the counter refuses to filet the fish. I was told on two separate occasions that "we don't do that." When I explained that there's literally a sign on the wall that says you cut and filet the fish as a complimentary service, the very nice gentleman told me that his manager never taught him although he's asked on several occasions and he's been working there for 4 years. The hot bar is extremely underwhelming and food is left out for hours or empty during peak hours. The best part about that section of the store is the woman who is typically behind the pizza bar, she's so sweet and works hard. She takes pride in what she is doing everyday and deserves to be recognized if she's not already. This is the only Whole Foods in San Rafael, it needs to improve. I've been shopping here now for about 3 years and it's gets worse and worse. The leadership here needs to connect with other stores that have amazing standards. The Whole Foods in Mill Valley is running much better, quality hot food on their floor, presented like something you actually want to eat not disheveled. They offer the full blown services behind the fish case and they do this all with minimal staff. They have a beautifully stocked and displayed produce section that looks like they care about what their customers are bringing home. I've never brought anything molded from that location. They run very well with minimal staff, ask them how they are winning. This location is disappointing at best. I really hope the leadership addresses these issues because Whole Foods should be the best in San Rafael, I shouldn't have to shop Sprouts or drive to Mill Valley to the other location bc the team can't filet fish or make sure the produce doesn't have mold all over it. Rant over.

They will remember you. The Staff absolutely rock here! John very welcoming in customer service, Anton in meat dept, Nate and ALan are splendid- smiling always friendly when they bag- not too heavy, and Elisa rang me up! make me want to come back for more berries, super olives and cheese selection, more lamb- just fabulous customer service. REnee is cool too. The only down side is the terrible 1950s music they pipe in when you call in, and are waiting on hold- pure goofy torture! - a particular customer

How is it possible that I always run into issues at this San Rafael store. This time it was 2 rude employees, 1 great employee, and an overwhelmed deli guy (I felt sorry for him) who was solo during the lunch rush, and despite asking his coworkers for help, twice, no e. Was given. When the line was 6 people long and I was number 3 in line, and the guy ordering asked for 4 vegi burritos I bailed out. Continued with my shopping and when I finished went by the deli again and the guy who was behind me was still not being served. That was 10 minutes later. Also my Sonoma Chicken salad contained zero grapes, the key ingredient in Sonoma Chicken Salad.

I’m going to start off saying that grocery stores are my happy place I love this Whole Foods. I’m in there almost everyday; everyone is super nice and friendly, helpful and chill. The item selection is great / pretty much everything I buy is always in stock. 5 stars all around. I am not a serial review, but today I did have a sour experience with a cashier when I was checking out that I want to vent about. The checker in question, Robin, seemed helpful at first - offering to double bag for me so I could carry everything in ‘one’ bag. I then offer to put the stuff in the bag while she checks out - it’s busy so I think it will make things a bit more efficient.Well, when I go to put my stuff in, the second bag/the inner bag, wasn’t even open - so I’m fumbling around trying to get the bag to sit properly before I can put the stuff in. By that time, she’s done ringing me up, so I ask her if she can finish putting the stuff in that bag while I run my card. She then proceeds to literally *toss* my stuff (it’s 3 containers of sushi) into the bag so they get all jumbled up. I know this sounds pretentious of me, but sushi is all about the presentation, and she messed it up!!Anyway, I love the store, love the people, but avoid Robin when checking out. Maybe she was having a bad day, but I work in customer service too and I don’t throw things around (just the occasional curse word when the facility is empty).

When you’ve been to one Whole Foods, haven’t you pretty much been to all Whole Foods. Exceptional produce! Almost everything has a pricier cost but typically worth the investment. Great iofinds and the occasional special treat. I love Whole Foods !

This review is for the seafood dept. The shrimp I purchased last night gave me food poisoning. I called the store to report. However, they will continue to sell it.

Yessica at customer service at the front was incredibly rude. I put back my items and left. Never coming to this location again. I asked if they had a microwave for me to heat up the vegan chicken noodle soup I found, or if they had an pre-prepared vegan noodles. "Everything we have out is what we have" she said, very coldly. I repeated my question if she had a microwave there I could use for the noodles container in my hand. Simultaneously my 2 year old knocked over a water bottle. She grabbed my child's hand and told me where the microwave was, again, very rudely. I put the vegan chicken noodle soup back and left. Not sure if Yessica has a distaste for vegans or what, but that was a very strange encounter.

Worst service at meat dept. The guys behind the counter hate their jobs. Shop here all the time and have never had a good experience. Last time for me.
