I placed a bid on an item at one of their auctions held in April'21. I met the minimum bid and got an email after the auction that I did not get the piece. I looked up what it sold for and found out that the lot was passed on. There was no mention of why my bid was not accepted especially when I met their minimum. Their bait and switch tactics are very unprofessional and I will never again use this auction house.

Its been a while, I finally decide to write this review to remind everyone to be careful of this auction gallery. The owner is selling all fake Chinese fake antiques, he clearly knows that they are fake but he is selling it anyway and pretending that they are authentic antique. This is terrible. Unfortunately customers are not protected by law if you bid on a fake antique. Be careful of this Gallery and the owner, he is very dishonest.

This was my first time buying at an auction and it was a great experience. The staff was friendly and very helpful. They explained how the bidding and estimates worked, and made me feel welcome. I had a great day and won a few items. I'm very pleased with my purchases. They even helped load them in my car around the corner. I'll be back!

Bought a set of china here, and the service was terrible when I went to pick it up. I had to practically beg for packing paper, and when I counted the pieces, I was missing about 1/4 of the set. "Oh ya, it's behind the counter", they answered nonchalantly. No help whatsoever in packing it up or carrying it to my car. The minute they've gotten their money, they look the other way. The owner is arrogant and has serious attitude, and they provide no info. whatsoever on an object, as they don't want to "commit" themselves. Never again!

Terrible service The owner cannot stop talking, makes outrageously wrong statements worst customer service on the planet sent me to 2 local shippers who wanted to charge $75. to ship 5 tiny 4 inch plates, ground, no insurance. Then sent me to his flat rate in-house shipper, who has not gotten back to me in nearly 2 weeks... If you are an antique buyer - and want to be treated with insults, and a condescending attitude, San Rafael is your place....

At the Fall 2017 sale I bid on and won six dining room chairs that were described in the catalogue as leather. When I was at the gallery to pick up the chairs I asked again if they were leather and was assured they were. When I brought them to an upholsterer to repair the damage to the seats I learned they were not leather but actually a synthetic material. I asked the owner of the gallery for a refund and was denied. Instead he offered to sell them for me at the next sale and not charge me a commission.

I purchased at the last auction and was impressed with the knowledgeable staff. Descriptions and photos were professional and accurate. Estimates were on target. Also the owner and his wife were at the previews to answer questions. I will be back.
