McGuiness was recommended to me by two separate and trusted friends and I am so grateful! I have been taking my Subaru(s) to Joe for several years now. He is always really thorough, kind, and fair with pricing. He always takes the time to explain things in a non-patronizing way. If I ever have an emergency or time crunch he always finds a way to help me out even if things are busy. I really trust him, his expertise and feel safer knowing my car is in good hands.

Quint is gone to play with his grandkids and Joe has taken over at a new location on Woodland. Both are really outstanding guys. My kid bought his first car. An old F150 with 200K that needed a new ABS System. The dealer wanted more than my kid paid for the truck just for the ABS part. Joe took the time to go out and find one for 25% of the dealer price. Tell me many mechanics in Marin would do that. If you want a quality job done at a reasonable price go to McGuinness Motors.

I had a exhaust manifold leak caused from rusted and broken studs from the engine block. Seemed like a potentially unfixable situation as I took it to a few mechanics in the Marin area and they wouldn’t touch it and suggested I lift the engine to replace it. Took it to mcguinness mechanics and Joe helped me. He was able to fix it without lifting the engine and at a very reasonable price considering the situation. Joe is an actual mechanic and puts love, critical thinking, and expertise into your vehicle. Best shop that I’ve been to in Marin for my automative needs and recommend everyone to give them a try.

Have been taking my trucks and cars to McGuinness to get lifted, and then repaired when I break them/have any accidents. Always quick to respond, and willing to work on what I have. Started with an F-150 that I had them lift, then lost that truck and brought them a GX470 to lift. They haven't hestitated to lift them, repair them, or do custom work when needed (more recently lost a wheel on the highway after doing work myself, and needed the shock cut off of the axle housing, a new bracket fabricated, and new struts added). They were able to do it all for cheaper than expected, and it looks great/drives great again!

McGuinness is the best, no question about it. I have always been extremely happy with their service. I have no hesitation recommending McGuinness Mechanics to everyone. Honest, capable, and always a pleasure to work with. This is by far the best mechanic in Marin.

I wanted to install a lift kit on my Honda Element, and mechanics at McGuinness did a fantastic job. They called the lift kit manufacturers to make sure they understood the process, and did all other research necessary to give me a fai quote. The price was reasonable and working with the staff there was a joy. If you need any specialty 4x4 work, or you need basic work done on your vehicle, don't hesitate to contact these guys. They well treat you with respect, charge you fairly, and do great work.

Needed brakework and immediately. He fixed a patch free of charge. Then, out of loyalty to him I paid for full brake job and fix of ac system. Once I started paying him, he started mistreating my vehicle, braking parts and refusing to fix issues that arose from his work. I went in twice a week for a month trying to get him to make the fix while he kept saying he needed more data, without driving the vehicle to even diagnose himself. I'm almost certain he made me come to the shop over and over to do absolutely nothing with the vehicle. He held up my cross-country trip for a full month, laughing at me. He was happy to help me for free, but once I started paying him (about $1200) he had to kick me down over and over to continue to feel superior. It was a nightmare. I waited several months to cool off before writing this review and still cannot believe he did this. He's too good to do an oil change, he told me. And if you want any insights to other issues, don't bother. In his words, he goes in "with blinders on" so he only sees the issue at hand. So if you are hoping for a helpful reminder to fill your fluids- it won't happen.
