DO NOT COME HERE FOR BOARDING, I respect dr, archinal with all my respect with dogs and they're health but noticed my dog was treated bad because of my skin color o not paying bills right away as the receptionist told me herself who is also in charge of boarding and watching the dogs, how come I wasn't allowed to bring their things like food/ wipes for he's on health but when it comes to different owners oh yeah what does he need to make him feel comfortable? Like I'm sorry but when I saw and heard the difference how boarding works for people of skin color made me sick to my stomach, also to shame me infront of people in the lobby and in the back working by saying where do u want me to send me the bill knowing I'm staying my car currently , the professional was thrown out of that window that day and made me cry there in the spot to ask me are we cool now, lying and treating bad to my dog as pay back not good look for a business.

I have had good and also meh experiences here. Many miscommunications during covid where they would not let you in with the doctor during exams (even masked). I did not think that was a good protocol but it is hard to find any fault with covid era stuff as that was such an exception to any rules. The main front staff person, Melissa, has been really sweet, knowledgeable and straight up awesome during difficult times with my dogs so I have to give her 5 stars! But had a super uncomfortable experience with the other front staff. However, I also understand how difficult it is to employ young people who do not always have a full grasp of appropriate interactions. The 'front' is such a touchy place where you really need an A team. So I have edited my review from 3 stars to 4 stars. My experience here is definitely not five star but mainly for the interaction with the front folk other than Melissa. That is truly the sole reason I am voting with my feet and going to another vet! I feel so badly for the folks that had the 1star experiences. I know there are always two sides to every story so hoping there is more to whatever transpired in those events! The emotion of such tragedies must be awful and possibly color people's reviews. In my opinion, the doctors were good here and the prices were fair. Still going elsewhere because I never want to see those front people! But overall, they are a good place.

Dr. Archinal and his family run practice are the best. They cared for our beloved dog for over 14 years, with rational treatment, and granting her dignity and grace, from start to finish. They are practical and compassionate, and really understand the family's needs at each step. Your trust in them will be well deserved and earned.

The best vet i've ever been to, i'm a dog owner I've had many dogs, Steve and his team are absolutely fantastic, they don't over react with expensive procedures, they are practical in their advice, under his care of my dogs have lived to be a very old age. I live on open space and my animals have had many incidences. One dog had coonhound paralysis, and Steve diagnosed the dog immediately which is very unusual, and save my dogs life. i've been going to San RAfael animal hospital for over 20 years I have recommended him to numerous people, If you want practical advice Backed with years of experience and not a "Marin vet" that sees dollar signs when you walk in the door, then San RAfael animal hospital is the place for you. when Steve retires I'm gonna be totally bummed.

We have been bringing both our dogs here for over one year and had an experience today that will have us taking them elsewhere going forward. They are due to refill heartworm medication and the prescription was refused on the grounds they need testing prior to refilling the medication. The woman I spoke to on the phone was incredibly rude and not helpful. She informed me it was "the law" that the dogs needed this testing prior to a refill, which is incorrect. There is no law stating that the dogs need testing, rather it is a recommendation from the CDC and the American Heartworm Society. The recommendation is a CYA as dogs with current heartworm infection can have adverse effects, therefore she was providing me with false information. I asked if records from our old vet could be obtained to see if testing had been previously performed and she informed me it would take a very long time and she would add it to her long list of things to do and then proceeded to hang up on me. Obtaining records is not a tedious process, it takes a simple phone call and a fax. If you are a receptionist/tech at a vet's office, that is part of your job. I understand the need for practices to protect themselves from liability, but providing false information in an incredibly rude manner is not the way to do it.

Super friendly staff but I didn't feel confident enough with the veterinarian who saw my puppy. He didn't seem to know where to apply the shot on my puppy and the veterinarian assistant was the one who guided him through. She was amazing! Now I have a puppy who is vomiting and I don't feel secure to go back there. So I'm taking him to another vet.

Brought my mini Aussie there because the idiots at Ziggy's not only killed our Papillion, but shaved our Aussie so close she has been scratching for weeks. Very nice and professional vet people and planing on bringing our dogs back here when needed. Owner was extremely kind and considerate. Thanks.

This vet is so nice. Old school,. giving a fair price, and attentive to his patients. Cannot say enough good things about this vet hospital I live close to Novato. It's out of my way, but I will return again

We adore Dr A and the friendly staff. They are kind, caring, and attentive. To boot, reasonably priced! I am especially grateful for anyone here who has had to deal with my devil cat Kiki. She is a force to be reckoned with and I always feel bad bringing her because she's soooo mean! I am eternally grateful they keep me as their client even though my cat sucks. I have a dog as well, maybe that's why, haha. Regardless, you can't go wrong with Dr A and his office.

We came to San Rafael Animal Hospital as it was time to say goodbye to our beloved dog. Dr Archinal and his team treated us, and our dog, with the utmost compassion, care and respect. In the prior appointment, he spent a lot of time answering my questions and didn't rush me through it. I only wish we'd found him as our family vet years earlier.
