When I go to S.P Automotive, I am always greeted by Great people, actually one, in particular, that is always friendly and approachable. Russ always has knowledge about parts I may need. I'm glad we have people in our community that take pride in thier job and love their costumers.

In the past this was only shop that had the diesel fuel filter I needed (the other 2 major chains didn't carry in-stock so a long wait would have to be had). Also decent hours and they try to be helpful. So 1 point for the past is earned (not just given for posting a review). Recently fuel filter didn't look like it was right or would hold tight. I called and explained and asked if they had an o-ring or something that would help. They didn't. And they said they refused to say on the phone whether they would issue a refund or credit for the purchase. I didn't want to waste time calling my credit card company and returning the merchandise (I could do that over their objection). They said it cross-matched to the Napa FIL 3976 filter I was replacing (but San Pablo's was made by Hastings, I believe part #FF943). Based on their insistence that it should work, I tried to put it on the fuel line with cut off o-ring from Napa. It didn't stay on the fuel line. Diesel spilled all over. Again, if they also sold an o-ring that could go with the Hastings part this would not have happened - but they said none was available. No more wasting my time or money with San Pablo Auto Supply's supplies or refusals to, or confusion on whether to, issue a refund for un-installed parts (despite their sign indicating that might be possible). Called and turns out Napa filter was a little bit cheaper (though further away from my location). Next time I know to just go to Napa. UPDATE: as best I can tell my fuel filter housing accepts only the Napa Filter mentioned above or the WIX 33976. Even though the store's records might say these are the same as the Hastings FF943, if you look at pictures of them they are totally different. When I was in the store, one of the service reps said something to the effect that I might be able to look up pictures on my cellphone. I should have done this plus brought the part in the store (instead of believing that their parts records were accurate (because in the past they have been accurate)). For this reason, I'm giving them an additional start to 2 stars. Bottom-line, if a part has not been installed / dirtied / used the person on the phone should not hesitate to say that they will accept it as a return item.

What a terrible experience! Brought car battery back to shop after car stalled three times and AAA Mentioned the battery was no more good. Took battery back to SP Automotive after less than two years of having the battery to have it replaced. They tested it and stated that it was good twice. After the second time, some incompetent employees gave my battery to someone else! Then the employee calls the customer that has my battery to come back and makes up lie to get him to rush! If they lied about this I can't imagine what else they lied about.

Presently I'm working on fine tuning the braking system of a Vintage '57 Mercedes Roadster. So today, I visit Mr. Noric my local expert German mechanic with 45yrs experience to have my now obsolete parts machined ... Like a master, Mr. Noric takes a moment to visually zero in and appreciate my dated brake parts in hand, the application, and the importance for precision machine work that's needed!! Without hesitation, Mr. Noric states that; "there is only one place in the east bay to get this type of work done correctly at SP Automotive Supplies in San Pablo" . He also said; "they are very nice / friendly but very busy. So, the work request might take awhile...". So, off to SP Auto In San Pablo I go... As soon as I walked thru the door, I was warmly greeted by Pablo at the counter!! I do not like to use the word amazing but nothing else fits - Pablo was AMAZING, knowledgeable, passionate about his being of help, I can't say enough!! Pablo was also able to help me with several other parts of my project. Pablo needs to know the his efforts make a huge difference in helping make my day and the days ahead a lot easier Thank you Mr. Pablo you are appreciated!! Ps Mr. Noric you were absolutely Right SP Auto is the only place!! Best Regards, Isabelo

Visited the place several times but I never got any decent customer service. Previously I had reserved several items for servicing my vehicle and after I had arrived and waited 30 minutes for someone to say hello, the items that I requested was never pulled to the side.

Atrocious customer service is amateurish enough to prevent me from frequenting a local business more than once. Being treated inhumanly is sufficient incentive for me to write a 1-star Yelp review. Maybe my face offended the cashier? Maybe someone who looked like me had frauded or wronged them in the past? Maybe their treatment of me was the fruition of bad day, week, month, year, decade, or life? All the failed efforts at sympathetic reasoning that crossed my mind are speculative. My only hope is that prisoners at Guantanamo Bay are treated with more dignity than I was at SP automotive supply. My boss referred me to this automotive supply store to purchase a lockable gas cap for our company car. I called the place, and they said they had the gas cap. I went over with the company credit card, my business card, and my boss' business card. I had accidentally left my ID, and the cashier told me crossly that he couldn't help with the purchase unless I had a government-issued ID. I returned to my office to gather the respective government-issued ID and returned to the business. Denied again! I showed him that my business card matched my driver's license and that my business card matched the company on the company credit card. He condescendingly tried to explain to me in layman's terms why he was refusing my business. I cut him off early and said, "Sir, are you going to process the transaction or shall I take my business elsewhere?" He responded to me with abundant prejudice, "Of course I won't be," and a wide smirk of power-derived pleasure (that I have only witnessed in the likes of bullies, despots, and aspiring sociopaths) stretched over his weary face. Incensed, I grabbed my driver's license, my business card, my boss's business card, and the company credit card off of the cashier's table and exited the business.

As good as it gets for in stock automotive tools and parts. I had to get a triple square 12 point internal wrench bit to r&r the driveshaft/CV on my VW GTI. No luck anywhere but these guys had it - for eight bucks and change! Very well organized and they really know their stuff. Great experience, will go back!

John from Fairmont Auto in El Cerrito recommended them for snow chains. I called up and they had the exact snow chain fit for our 2005 Toyota Prius and it cost the same as it would through Amazon. Better to support local businesses.
