Much better than Whole Foods in San Mateo. I have found them to be much more professional and the customer service is much better.

Safeway can be quite expensive these days. The saving grace for dwl hunters is the app the offered new savings every Wednesdaym this particular Safeway even has a recycling bin not as good as the full on cash refund centers I remember 20 years ago but it's nice they even have this.

I wish I could give negative stars! I have many complaints, some of which I see others have complained about as well.
First, there is a janitor that CLEARLY has anger issues. Just this morning while waiting in line a the Starbucks there I heard him use profanities and slamming things around in a shopping cart. This is NOT the first time! I am actually afraid to get near him, he seems unsafe to be around humans.
Secondly, I have visited both the deli counter and the meat department and not a single person in either department was able to assist me due to not speaking/understanding English. Now don't get me wrong, English is not my first language either, however if you are going to work in a position of customer service, this factor is important.
Lastly, I will no longer patron this Safeway. The above examples have been experienced more than a few times. NOT OK Safeway...do better!

The people at the deli counter seem nice but they don't speak a word of English. Not even enough to understand a menu item request like "pepper turkey". Want to know the current sales? Recommendations? No chance. Seems like an important job requirement. I stopped going.

So glad that I was able to get my lost receipt through the help of Molly. I was hesitant to ask, because I know how busy this store is. Molly did not make me feel that I was bothering her. Instead, she willingly asked for the information and found time to provide such a super amazing service. Thank you, Molly!

It’s 7:36 pm I thought I’d get my groceries while I wait to pick up my food order from Jacks, so I went into the Safeway store to buy mainly produce items and much to my surprise all of the produce, and I mean all of the produce shelves were empty, and there was an employee throwing the last of the bell peppers into a bin. I was absolutely stunned. There was not one item on the shelf, another customer approached the employee to ask about something he needed and the employee just stood there looking down, shaking his head and throwing the peppers in the bin. I don’t understand why the old produce couldn’t be taken out and replace section by section with the new so that customers don’t waste their time and energy , stopping at your store and find no produce at all on the shelves. I shop at many different Safeway stores along the peninsula and I’ve never seen another store restock produce this and inconvenience their customers.

Clean and well stocked store. We went on a weekday night and the store was quite empty. We found what we went to buy. They have a wide selection of bakery and floral products. Only complaint- the checkout was very long as there were only two counters open.

Now this happened a few days ago and I was debating on writing this but this behavior is unacceptable let alone for a manger. I was at the front of the store when this happened and this happened between a short asian man and a young lady, both removed their name tags when I asked to see their names because I didn't have my glasses. I was just finishing up my bagging when I hear over my shoulder a man laughing and saying "and yes I sucked his fat dick, and I pictures to prove it, I can't be fired now" and the women laughed. I whipped around and was absolutely appalled and I said to the young man that it was highly inappropriate for work talk and he said he was sorry and didn't mean any harm. I went back to finishing my groceries and then I heard them laughing again! I guess he didn't think I would turn around so fast with my cane and saw him flipping me off with a butterfly tattoo on it and he quickly played it off and pretended to scratch his face. I finished my last bag and said to the young that he should be fired for his inappropriate behavior, and I would like to speak to his supervisor and he said that he was a manager and they're unstaffed. I said I wanted their names and they said they didn't have to and that I was causing a scene and needed to leave or they would call security. At this I just had about enough and I left without saying another word. I am highly disappointed in the service that took place that day and will not be returning to this Safeway until something is done about that young man.

I just left the Safeway at 1655 El Camino Real in San Mateo. First of all I felt the individual was rude because I asked for the fresh nuggets and Chicken Strips he removed the bad Strips with an attitude and gave me some hard Nuggets that should not have been given. SAD!!!!!! I wish I could add a video.

Safeway. What can I say except they use to be awesome, they use to be great, they use to be good...now they're just meh. Yesterday, I brought some pastry to the self checkout at my local Safeway in San Mateo/Foster City. The pastry was from their 1/2 off bin they use to get rid of overstock / dated items. I picked three items from the bin. I brought them to the front to check out. But only ONE of the IDENTICAL ITEMS had the 50% off sticker...the other TWO exact items from the 1/2 off bin were missing a sticker. (see attached) The clerk charged me the FULL PRICE for the two that had the missing sticker when I asked for her help scanning. She asked me if there were other same cakes with a 50% sticker intact. I said yes, there are many. Another clerk walked by and she asked him about getting another TWO cakes for me from the 1/2 off bin. He replied, "Oh, thems cakes been off sale since Tuesday." And he walked away. So, I asked her to take the two cakes off the purchase. And I walked back to the bin myself. I found the TWO identical cakes with the 50% off sticker intact. And brought them to the register where the clerk rang them up for me. I'm so sick of all the Safeway's I don't care attitude and clerks arbitrary 'I don't give a sh**' attitude. Its not the first time this has happened. They should have just rung the items up as they were ALL the same from the SAME 50% off bin AND identical items. Instead of making me walk back and get TWO that had a sticker!! I'm already ringing up my own purchases MYSELF for NO DISCOUNT. Safeway deliberately has only 1-2 cashiers during rush hour? What's that about? To force customers to scan, bag and pay for their items themselves! The lines at the 1 or 2 personal cashiers are always LONG and the lines at the self-checkout short! Safeway is saving money by not hiring cashiers? Making customers do the work of a cashier! How much do cashiers make anyway? By my calculations I should be getting $2-$5 each visit to the self-checkout for the time I spend ringing up and bagging my own groceries!

employees are friendly sometimes, is a hit and miss but a lot better than before. is extremely hard to get any assistance. the diary section is constantly out of store. If i need yogurt or cheese, I definitely skip this store. lines are always full. Your best bet is self checkout. the bight highlight of the store is the wine selection and one of the employees by the name of Mary. she's the only friendly associate I ever seen at that store.

This place is friggin terrible, there was a janitor that stares at people and sniffs them behind their backs. He also asks children to come get I'm the white van he lives in, saying things along the likes of: "I lost my puppy, if you help me find it I'll give you candy." And the "Your parents wanted me to come and pick you up." I think it's unprofessional to do these things while on the clock. Otherwise the place is pretty ok.
