Phenomenal classes and love the rooftop pool! The cell service is a bit spotty in the basement where the equipment is, which is my only gripe. There’s street parking or a parking lot in the back where your parking can be validated.

Probably the worst gym ever. Not worth it at all. All other reviews are right. They need to renovate this equinox to bring it up to standard

I would give it 5 stars but the Earthbar they allow to operate here is a sad waste of space. It is rarely open and even when it is, no one shows up to take orders. The “grab and go” options are super limited. Equinox, get them to operate or get them off your property. One of my favorite parts of working out at equinox- getting a smoothie after a midday workout. I will NOT be coming back to San Mateo anymore because this Earthbar location is horribly unreliable. Disappointing.

First and foremost, this location barely lives up to the Equinox "brand". The workout area is a postage stamp with low ceilings, and to add insult to injury, is underground with no windows; it was like working out in basement. For the outrageous price they charge, I'd imagine they'd provide a better experience than that. Furthermore, the sales staff is incredibly pushy to the point of discomfort. My partner incessantly received texts on Sundays at 7pm pestering them to buy a membership. If you can, I suggest looking elsewhere in San Mateo.

I have been here for about a year until they downgraded the steam room experience. They lowered the frequency and temperature threshold for the steam and it would get COLD in the steam room and you have to wait 10 minutes for the steam to come. I wrote to the manager providing feedback but they never wrote back. I cancelled my membership.

As an update, things have gotten a lot worse at this club. Not only are there are regularly issues with cleanliness, maintenance, and a complete lack of hot water for the showers, but more more seriously, I have been sexually harassed in the locker room several times by one staff member, including the person opening my shower curtain while I am showering, staring at me when I am exiting the shower, and following me around the locker room. Management has not resolved this situation or taken it seriously, the person continues to work at the club, including in the locker room.

I was given an excellent, professional, highly friendly tour of the gym on short notice. The gym was clean and not crowded. Consider giving Rachel a promotion!

This is a very disappointing experience for me. My husband and I have been a member for about two years. First, the customer service is very rude and second they sign people up under different names to hit their quota. Their shady way of doing business and handling business is very dissatisfying

I've been a member of Equinox San Mateo since the beginning of this year and have to say that its incredibly convenient since my work office is right across the street. Equinox offered 3 complimentary personal training sessions as well as a very good package of discounts on clothing, and other classes. I previously only went to 24 Hour fitness and after going to Equinox, I'm always pleasantly surprised to find all the amenities I could want (shower, conditioner, etc.) in steady supply and the restrooms/locker rooms are always incredibly clean. For someone who works mostly from home, the gym is my second home and I'm glad to attend Equinox! They also have a smoothie bar on-site, as well as Wi-Fi and tables for those who need to join a quick meeting or hop on a quick call. I highly recommend Equinox for young professionals and those who want a clean gym while also the ability to sit down and crank out work if needed. Thanks Equinox staff!

Terrible location...the gym is a basement with no windows and terrible lighting and low ceilings. Over packed and very small. This is not worth the ridiculous fees Equinox asks for, be worth a $59/m similar to Crunch in San Mateo, even a penny over will not be worth it.

Very nice and clean and not too packed. Pricey. But you get what you pay for. Could be a little cheaper though considering they don't face toner and cotton balls and disposable toothbrushes. My bad to say about it. Other than that great.

The gym is clean, decent variety of equipment, good classes . Front desk is very nice. My trainer was great. However the management is infuriating. I'm not sure what's going on with policies at Equinox at large but they seem to want to make as much money off you as possible. They made a scheduling error for my physical training and charged me for it. My trainer agreed and tried to escalate it to management. I also emailed multiple people who would stop responding after the first email and never advanced my concern to have it refunded. Only after I filed a complaint with the bank did they respond to my email, but even now after 2 months they still have not followed through. Surely this is a lucrative business, I cannot understand why it is this hard to get a refund for something that was their error. I am in a 12 month contract with them (that's their standard requirement), which I understood up front but now regret. I wish I had known how miserly they can be. It leaves a bad taste in my mouth and I would NOT recommend them to others.

The 1 star is relative to other high-end gyms as even the worst Equinox is still better than the best 24 Hour, Crunch, etc-the gym is underground and has zero natural light. I know this cant necessarily be helped but working out on a basement is disorienting and depressing.-missing some very basic equipment that virtually any other gym has while also have a bizzarre over abundance of other pieces that could never possibly be needed, specifically their assortment of grips for the cable stacks-the lockers do not have keypads, you need to bring your own lock or just hope you're stuff doesn't get stolen. To me this might be the most egregious thing they are lacking and is inexcusable.-the Earth Bar is virtually never open. I know Earth Bar is a separate business but it still hurts-no parking, although street parking has never been an issue when I typically go at 6am

Dont sign up for gym membership here. They provide towels with the expensive membership but tend to always run out every time I'm here. So I'm stuck naked or with a gross towel from using the steam room till they bring more. I only go here because my work pays for it. I got an automated response below that they will handle the issue. I'll update this review if I consistently don't see empty shelves of towels for a few months.
