I don't usually leave reviews about retail places, especially since I used to be a retail manager and understand the difficulties that retail employees go through. However, I was pretty baffled about my experience at Bath & Body Works yesterday. I usually went to the store at the Stanford shopping center, but since it's been closed for a while, I haven't gotten any plug-in diffuser refills in a while. On a whim while shoe shopping at the Hillsdale mall, I went in to try and purchase some diffuser refills at this location. The young woman at the front was friendly and helpful, and directed me to where the refills were. When I got to the section, I realized I couldn't find the Eucalyptus ones I usually got. I figured it must be because they were out of season, but I thought I'd just ask in case the non-seasonal ones were in a different place. I waited by the closed down register area in the White Barn section of the store while two employees talked about their day and personal things. I didn't want to be rude and interrupt them, so I just stood there, right in front of them, and waited. A minute or two went by, one of the employees looked right at me and they continued to talk. I get that sometimes, despite being on the sales floor, employees like to take their breaks or maybe just aren't in the mood to help. No problem. I decided it wasn't worth waiting for these two employees to be done talking about non-work related topics while on the sales floor and decided to go to the front where the previously helpful employee was. She was busy so I asked a second employee that was standing by her and she was friendly and jumped in to help me. It was at this point I realized there were now five employees on the sales floor, so it certainly isn't an understaffing issue that contributed to poor customer service by the other two employees. Anyways, this employee took me to a scent that had no eucalyptus and seemed confused about what I was talking about. I figured then that I was probably asking for something that they just didn't carry anymore since it's been years since I've bought it. I thanked her since she had tried her best and headed to the cashier. The cashier had just finished a transaction and turned away from the register. No problem, I figured she was maybe taking care of an important task and would be right with me. I waited in line. A minute passed. Another minute. I checked my watch and felt a bit frustrated because I was obviously standing in line, she had made eye contact with me, and for some reason was STILL fiddling with something behind the register. I started to wonder if it was me - do they not get many black customers in? Do I look like I have no money? Did I dress poorly today and does my outfit somehow make me look like a potential weirdo? I was pretty confused about the whole experience, and was trying to think of all the typical retail reasons this might be happening. Not understaffed, only one other customer in the store, nobody in line before or after me... but after waiting for a bit in the line, I finally just walked away. I put the items back near the area I'd found them and walked out. I don't know what was going on yesterday at this store - it left me confused and feeling like I'd stepped into some weird alternate reality, and I even texted my partner while waiting because I was so confused and slightly amused. Like, was there some glitch in the matrix right now?? What was even happening?? lol. Three of those five employees were just in their own world, no care for customer service or making sales. Or maybe it was just me they didn't care for? I don't know, lmao, but it was weird af. I'm writing this review so hopefully the manager is made aware. Seems like a waste of labor to have three out of five employees on the sales floor not prioritizing sales.

Soaps were mediocre at best. Most of them smell like jolly ranchers (candy) and don't make you feel clean. Got the least sweet-smelling soap, but still ended up with ants in my bathroom, attracted by the scent.

Whoever sold me that Eucalyptus spray, don't flirt with me again. I'll end up buying a lot more..
