After purchasing our second Subaru Ascent we had Porter Barr come to our home to explain the numerous icons, toggle switches, valet button, driver monitoring system, etc., etc. Porter has incredible knowledge of Subarus and showed us many things we had forgotten or was brand new to us. I would give Porter 10 stars if I could! He comes right to your home and answers every single question in full. What an asset to Subaru is this young man!!

Shoddy service, overpriced and non-responsive management.
I took my Subaru in for recall work on the front headlights. While my car was in, I decided to have the oil changed. When I got home I found:
1. Six bolts that were supposed to hold the front bumper on were sitting in the front window well.
2. The plastic fastener in the driver’s side wheel well was broken off from them removing the bumper for the lights.
3. There was a mouse/rat’s nest in the engine right next to the oil filter! Didn’t someone see that when they changed the oil? Cost of the oil change - $123.05.
4. Although all items were given a green check mark indicating that they were fine, the back windshield wiper was not firmly attached.
5. I called the service manager, Tim Van Alstin, twice and left messages to discuss these issues, but he never returned my call.
I would never buy a car from these people, and I would certainly never take a car there for service.

Great communication from Subaru SLO. Timely notification service reminders, easy on-line booking of service and clean facility for our short wait. We also look forward seeing Kevin (Sales) when we come in. He's a great guy with a friendly disposition.
This is our second "Outback" after having other makes and models for our family. Great high quality cars. Wish they made a truck ha ha.....Thanks

Sheisty dealership. I bought a 2019 Wrx from them a while back. It was a high pressure sales situation that I didn’t appreciate. The guy almost held me hostage trying to get me to buy the extended warranty. Service department wasn’t the best communicating but got the job done.

my last service interaction was terrible, horrible service:
- my car has extended warranty and went to show them three issues to see if they can be fixed under the warranty or not. After inspection they came and told me that 2 of them will be covered under the warranty but one of them is not.
According to them the one that is not covered under the warranty, which is driver side window doesnt close all the way. They told me that dirt in the rubber gasket is causing the issue, and according to them they inspected the issue and cleaned and problem is fixed. For that they want to charge me $400.
I have disagreed with them and told them that dirt is not the issue and that is not going to solve the problem. This is apparently an issue with many subaru vehicles. Recently my friend the same subaru outback he had the same issue and subaru folks fixed the problem by replacing the entire motor assembly inside the door fully covered under the warranty. I had to chat with their manager and after explaining the issue he waived the charges. But my point is i tried show the video when the window doesnt roll up properly they are like we need replicate the issue in the shop, how can i replicate the issue in the shop when the issue takes place someone outthere when i am on the road randomly.......
After leaving home a couple of days while i was driving to SLO for work, window started having the same issue and i took the car right away to the dealer and showed them the problem and the accepted that it is not the dirt and replaced some components in the window ........
Another incident happened right after they fixing the problem, i was planning to pick up my car after hours since service team is closed they allowed me to make the payment at the sales and pick up the keys from them. The amount i am due to pay is changed thrice, each time it is different price, initially when i first brought the car it is $49, came to pick up the car $199, after reminding them what i am due based on the previous statement they gave me they ended up charging $49. Service team supposed to hand over my car keys in the sales team but they didnt and the sales guy needed to call the service rep to get my keys. Even before calling the service rep, he told me too bad i dont have the car keys you need to come back tomorrow. HOW DO I DRIVE HOME i am 30 miles away. He said that without even trying but service rep answered the call on the first tray. This sales rep is the MOST RUDEST PERSON I HAVE EVER MET. HORROIBLE people to work in the service and sales department. I had an argument with him asking 15 mins WHY YOU HAVE TO BE SO RUDE, i wasnt angry or mean at him.......he even asked me if i want my car or not .....
I dont say all of them are bad, definitely there are good folks who helped me on many things but not the last few interactions.
Thanks and no thanks for bad service

Unethical & Dishonest
In my transaction with Subaru SLO, I found them to be dishonest and unethical.
If you are looking for an honest dealership you can trust I would recommend elsewhere.
I sold my son’s car as a trade in. Checked prices at 4 dealerships and went into Subaru SLO, because they were one of 2 who offered the most.
They saw numerous photos of the vehicle, but when I arrived, Joe Ortega reduced the offer by $1,000 basically based on the fact that a car with 78,000 miles was not in mint condition. If anything, the car was in better shape than I had represented.
They eventually conceded $500 of that, but if you’re looking for honesty or decency, I’d try elsewhere.
ADD ON AFTER RESPONSE BELOW:
I did call the dealership afterward, and Zak (the salesman who had conferred with the manager who originally priced the vehicle) acknowledged that Joe had wronged me, but was unable to get the GM to make it right.
BOTTOM LINE: If you don't want a one star review, OR want to improve as you say below, don't screw people. I'm out $500. You're out any reputation as a respectable business.

5 stars for Sales, shout out to Ray Butler. Very personable and knowledgeable. Was impressed that we were to be contacted for follow up questions….one month in and no contact! Disappointing. Mgr. was present and helpful in securing our vehicle in a short time frame. This was our first time finding the process of buying a car enjoyable.

Ray and Joe made the leasing of my first Subaru smooth and painless. As a busy mom who owns her own business, I needed a straightforward, transparent, informative and financially reasonable car buying experience. Thank you SLO Subaru!! It was the best Friday night I have had in a long time!

Absolutely great experience with Zak and the entire team. They were friendly, knowledgeable, and no pressure. Made buying my new Crostrek a breeze! This is my second time purchasing a car through them and won’t be the last!
