Tails
745 Higuera St #3512, San Luis ObispoBubba and I had so much fun checking out this store. He loved the variety of smells, treats and toys and was wagging his tail more than usual! The employees are so kind and gave my dog space to sniff around and also gave him some treats that he loved very much! I appreciate all of the alternative treats here to the normal toxic treats we usually have to watch out for. I like that I can trust that whatever I pick up in the store will be good for my dog. We will be visiting every time we drive by. Thank you for creating a wonderful place for both my dog and me to shop!

Lemos Feed & Pet Supply
3210 Broad St, San Luis ObispoA lot of good stuff but everything is too expensive. Petco and pet smart and Marshall’s tj max Ross are competition when it comes to pet clothes and they have prices that are affordable but 40 plus tax for a dog sweater there is a no for me. Dog clothes should be affordable since they don’t last that long.

Golden Paw
2314 Broad St, San Luis ObispoI've been taking my dog here for his nail trimming every couple of months for about a year now. They do an excellent job. They're quick, the price is super reasonable, and they treat my dog really well. Being open on Saturdays is also really convenient. Sometimes the nails aren't as short as I'd like, but it's better than going too far and hurting my dog. In short, I have no reason to take my dog anywhere else, The Golden Paw is excellent.

Pet Care

Cuesta Park Animal Hospital
2404 Loomis St, San Luis Obispoour dog has had such good care and I never feel that I am trying to be "up sold" and encouraged to get more tests, buy more products etc. Also, while at the hospital my husband had a mini health issue. The staff did not feel that he should drive home, so they volunteered to drive him home with our dog who had been treated. Someone followed the car in order to drive the person back to the facility. This was way above and beyond what would have been expected. Cannot say enough good things about the personnel and of course the excellent quality of care for our dog.

The Equine Center
4850 Davenport Creek Rd, San Luis ObispoDr Emily has been our vet for many years and I love her calm and confident approach. Recently worked with Dr Yordanov who recommended inpatient treatment after diagnosing our new rescue pony at home with severe sand colic. The facility is the perfect place if my ponies need higher level of treatment. Both vets are professional and encouraging allaying my fears and answering all my questions. They provide prompt care and have lots of experience.

Mission Animal Hospital, A Thrive Pet Healthcare Partner
3973 S Higuera St #130, San Luis ObispoI really trust the staff at Mission Animal Clinic. They are always so caring and gentle, taking the time to put my Nervous Nellie at ease. My only complaint is they are just so expensive. It is true “you get what you pay for “, but it makes it difficult to see them regularly.

Pet Sitting & Training

DognPooch.com
893 Marsh St, San Luis ObispoOur girl Rui is a 3-year-old Shiba Inu. She's sweet and knows every basic obedience command, but she loves chasing any flying object or animal to the point where I could be holding a piece of steak, swamped and drooled over by other dogs, and she would still be at the far end of the park. Previously, she went through a ton of training, but nothing seemed to shape her behavior or decision-making. During our training sessions, she would follow the command, take the treat, spit out the treat, and look at me as if to say, "Can I go play now?" A small dog with a big attitude! The worst part was that she was able to fool trainers into thinking she was ready to go, leaving me feeling as though if the training didn’t stick, it was the owner’s problem.
Now it’s been about two months since we got Rui back from Mark. The reviews mentioning "a changed dog" are true. She heels much better and checks in more frequently during our walks. She even asks for permission before going after birds (no animals were harmed). The change in her mentality is reflected in her behavior. We’re really grateful to Mark because now we can walk Rui off-leash, and she gets the freedom she’s always wanted. If you baby your dog or can’t be a disciplined and consistent trainer for them, leave it to the expert.
P.S. We found Mark and signed up for board-and-train because we had to be out of town for two weeks. We had no expectations for the "train" part of the deal due to previous experiences, but Mark really delivered. He sent videos multiple times a day, which provided great reassurance that our baby was okay and showed progress. The end result was just unreal.

Thousand Hills Pet Resort
173 Buckley Rd, San Luis ObispoThousand hills pet resort is a must for pet owners who want to go on a trip. Or need even just daycare day. Care is a low cost amount and they can save cars on file for you and have information about your pets under their file for easy drop off. And pick up and payment. They are very professional and take good care of every dog that they board or watch for daycare. My 2 Jack Russell terriers are always happy to go there and get excited once they know where we are. What is nice is that you can leave feeding instructions. Toys measures feds and other things when you need to have them boarded for when you are going on a trip or out of town for several days. This has always been a pleasant experience for me. Using thousand hills pet resort in San Luis Obispo, California.

Woods University Dog Obedience Training
875 Oklahoma Ave, San Luis ObispoWe are taking our new puppy to the Puppy Social Hour and it has been fantastic. Michelle is a lovely trainer - super knowledgable, thoughtful and takes the time to answer questions and explain things in further detail. The Puppy Social Hour is a great time for your puppy to socialize with other puppies around the same age (10 weeks to 5 months) while also learning basic commands with positive reinforcement, desensitization to loud noises/objects, etc. I highly highly recommend this training at Woods Humane!

Dogtastic Training
893 Marsh St Box 1192, San Luis ObispoMy Whippet/Pit mix is a sweet and responsive girl. With her desire to please me, we did great together with positive reinforcement training, however everything literally went out the door as soon as she knew she was going outside. Her prey drive is off the charts and was unmanageable on walks - to the point of being dangerous for both her and me. I contacted Mark to work with us to manage her prey drive, even with my initial reluctance to use an e-collar. We discussed his methods at length and he let me experience the e-collar for myself. After a week of working with Mark, I now have new capabilities to walk and go on adventures with my dog safety - and we can enjoy ourselves. Now that Mark has worked with her, the rest is up to me to maintain what she has learned. This ended up being a successful way to go, given her challenges. And I'm grateful. One thing that impressed me right away about Mark is that he took the first day with my dog to orient her to her new environment and spent time bonding with her. Each day of her training, he sent videos of where he took her, what training he was engaged in with her and how she was doing - multiple times a day, keeping me informed. Any questions I had, he responded to immediately. Finally, I was given training on the techniques and tools so I am able to maintain and continue her training. She has responded very well to Mark and his training process! In fact, I think she fell in love with him :-) I have no hesitations to continue working with Mark if any further support is needed.

Pet-Friendly Restaurants

Kiko Restaurant & Pisco Bar
746 Higuera St #6, San Luis ObispoI had an exceptional dining experience at Kiko Restaurant and Pisco Bar. The service was outstanding, with attentive guidance and quality recommendations provided by our server and the owner, Kiko himself. Each dish was expertly crafted, showcasing meticulous attention to detail. The depth of flavor in every bite left us excited for the next course. This restaurant truly stands out, and I will definitely be returning for another memorable experience.

Wolff Vineyards
6238 Orcutt Rd, San Luis ObispoI had a party of 28 people which I asked to reserve for and they set up this whole area for seating and a table just for pouring wine! Great hospitality and service! They also allowed us to bring our own charcuterie and even gave us extra cutting boards and tin foil to pack it up. They had an amazing Chardonnay which was oaky and bright and also it was the first time that I actually like a Riesling, they had a great dry reisling which was a crowd favorite. Also their cab sav was very bold and oaky which I loved. You can walk around and see the beautifully vineyard as you sip on your wine. Their prices were very reasonable and ambiance is like a family winery.

High Street Deli
1326 2nd Street, Baywood-Los OsosWithout a doubt, the best sandwich I’ve ever had. The bread, the meat, the veggies—everything! The line can be a bit long, but it’s absolutely worth the wait. If you can, definitely order ahead to skip the wait!

Mistura Restaurant
570 Higuera St, San Luis ObispoOverall a great restuarant with some of the freshest seafood I've ever had. I am picky because my brother spearfishes and so I am used to eating fish and seafood that was caught and killed mere hours before. That being said, the seafood here passed my test, with the scallops being delectably sweet and tender and the crab being cooked and seasoned to perfection. I had the apasionado which came with avocado, roe, uni, diver scallops, and a leche tigre sauce that was perfectly balanced. My friend had the grilled lamb dish which fell off the bone. To finish we had the passion fruit milk chocolate dessert which was amazing and the chocolate pomegranate mousse (I would pass on this one). The passionfruit chocolate mousse was super smooth and pretty balanced while the second dessert was bland and dry. Service here is a little slow but the servers are friendly and knowledgeable. Would come again and would recommend. Some may say it is expensive but I think the prices are quite reasonable for the portions and quality of the food. That being said, plan to order around 1.5-2 dishes per person as well as a dessert or two and expect to spend 100+ dollars.

Avila Valley Barn
560 Avila Beach Dr, San Luis ObispoWhat an absolutely magical experience! I sincerely believe our toddler had just as much, if not more fun than when we took him to Disneyland, and Avila Valley Barn admission is FREE! Parking is FREE! Our boy loved touching the chickens and feeding the animals. They have goats, emu, peacock, a bull, a cow, donkeys, and more! For $3 you can purchase a head of romaine e lettuce to feed the goats and ponies. Food pellets are also available. They have corn for sale cheap! The corn condiment table has everything you could want. Afterward. You can feed the cob to the goats. Or as our toddler did, pick off individual pieces of corn and feed it to the goats. There’s an ice cream shoppe, candy shoppe, fruit and veggie shop, gift shop, coffee shop, etc. They even offer pony rides.
We will definitely be visiting Avila Valley Barn every time we are in San Luis Obispo county! What a great family experience!

979 Morro St, San Luis ObispoThis is my second time visiting Region. It's a great place to taste wine and chill.
