I took my dog for a broken nail, $500 to fix his nail, so I decided to not do it, but I had to pay $106 just for exam. I took him to another place $78 with medicine, they cut my dog nail and they fix his nail too. I don't know why they told me that amount of money, that's not cool I don't even pay that money when I go to the doctor.

Lost my first pet, passed away at home run to the closest open vet clinic for asking cremation services for my beautiful and giant Alaskan Malamute. My heart and mind was tounamented, the agent at the front desk wasn’t completely explaining the memorial processes that could have offered for someone in this emotionally challenged time. They memorial booklet and their selection expensive and not explaining the exact service type they offer. For example their” clay paw print” is featured super small next to the urn labels looks like a choice could be added to the urn has no extra explanation. By the time I got to the memorial company to clarify their actual “clay paw print”they offered on their webside was to late, my baby was cremated. It isn’t self explanatory for first time pet owners/grievers. Management should upgrade their paw print description so it is very clear for even first pet owners in their weakest moment, can have their deserved and available memories without disappointment.

I really trust the staff at Mission Animal Clinic. They are always so caring and gentle, taking the time to put my Nervous Nellie at ease. My only complaint is they are just so expensive. It is true “you get what you pay for “, but it makes it difficult to see them regularly.

Dr. Jamie literally saved our family pet dog from cancer by finding a tumor in her mouth on a routine checkup (for an unrelated cause) . Because she was thorough our dog beat cancer in 6 weeks. Jamie is one of the best in the state by far , dedicated to her craft, and most importantly cares about her clients. Highly recommend mission, Dr. Jamie and her coworkers.

Felt like they were doing everything to get money out of us. Went there twice for a patch of ringworm the size of a quarter. The first treatment they gave us didn’t work so we had to go back and get a different kind of medicine. Paid over 300 each time. Not sure why it wasn’t handle correctly the first time. Then they tried to get us to come back a third time. Would not recommend them. They just want your money.
My cat also HATES it there. He has never meowed and hide at a vet like he did there.

Mission animal hospital was recommended to us by some friends and we were very thankful they did. The team here is very friendly and attentive. We have a new puppy and subsequently had a million questions - which they patiently answered thoughtfully. Pricing didn’t seem bad either. Definitely recommend.

We've been coming here for years, and Mission does seem to have competent vets – though lately they've been bouncing us from one vet to another with little continuity for our cats' health. But after the way we were treated today, we'll be looking for another vet.
Mission is all about the bottom line, not about your pet. They push services and treatments – anything that means billable hours. When you ask for something from them in return, they can't be bothered.
One of our cats has a skin allergy, and in spite of the high cost of hydrolyzed food, we decided we need to give it a try – because we care about his health. We tried to get the prescription filled through Chewy today, but since I couldn't find the paper prescription we'd been given at our last veterinary visit a few months ago, Mission Animal Hospital couldn't be bothered to pick up the phone to confirm we had a valid prescription – which we do – when Chewy called them. If a doctor's office can do this on a regular basis, when the pharmacy calls them, a veterinary office can, too.
I was treated rudely on the phone when I called today. I was told I needed to go in person to pick up a paper prescription. I live in the 5 cities and not in SLO, and it's not convenient for me. I frankly expect a rude response to this review – all about protocols and procedures of Mission Animal Hospital. That's what they told me on the phone. Bottom line: if a doctor's office (a human doctor's office) can pick up the phone to confirm a prescription, a vet's office can, too.
It may seem like a trivial thing. Maybe it is. (It is, sure.) But when I'm thinking about a veterinary hospital, I'm thinking about the worst that can happen to our pets. I don't want to be treated like I was treated today when I'm in an emergency with my animals that I love dearly. And Mission really doesn't care about you. They see you and your dog and cat as another line item in their 401K plan. Just another entry for profit.
Edit: In response to Bonnie Haley's answer, which contains a few misstatements of fact:
1. We asked to see our previous vet, Dr. Sara, when we made our last appointment. We were told that her hours had been significantly reduced and if we wanted to see her, we'd have to wait for months. Our prescription for our cat's flea medicine, which he needs given his allergy, was about to expire. They're not willing to work with you on that either (billable hours). So, no, you're not, as Bonnie Haley suggests, "free" to see any vet of your choosing. Mission chooses for you.
2. It's true the prescription was emailed to us – but only after much insistence on my part on the phone. The technician / receptionist I spoke with was very clear that the Mission policy was that I had to drive to the clinic to pick up a piece of paper in person, regardless of inconvenience for customers.
3. Notice the frequency of reviews for this clinic, and how many poorer reviews have been happening lately. I think this has to do with management changes in the clinic. We used to love coming here and felt our pets were in good hands –which was why we have been clients for years. The vets, I want to reiterate, have always been there for us, and have never abandoned us or made us feel unwelcome. It is the management which makes me feel that I am not valued as a client.
4. To prove this, Bonnie Haley "fired" me as a client via email after I posted this review – asking me where to send records. I told her where to send my records, because with this kind of management of the clinic, I do not – as I said before – feel safe with my pets being seen in the clinic, no matter how good the vets are.

Friendly, helpful staff. Was able to see, diagnose and complete the surgery within a week. Veterinarian was thorough, went through all options for treatment of cancerous tumor in my 12 year old plott hound. Was able to remove tumor and has been great with follow up care. Highly recommend them!

We've been coming here for years. Mission does seem to have competent vets - though lately they've been bouncing us from one vet to another with little continuity for our cats' health. They tell you your vet isn't available, and - oh, if you have to fill a prescription, we can't give you an extension, they say, unless you see whatever vet we have on hand. So no, you're not "free" to see any vet in the practice as they'll tell you. And after the way my pets and I were treated us this last week, we'll be looking for another vet. Mission is all about the bottom line, not about your pet. They push services and treatments - anything that means billable hours. I was treated rudely on the phone when I called last week to get the prescription I needed. They're going to tell you, as they did when I wrote about this on another site, that they sent me an emailed prescription. They did. But that was only after I had to beg with them on the phone to let me do it that way. I had to beg them to make an exception to their "strict office policy." They insisted the whole time that I needed to go in person to pick up a paper prescription, and they didn't care when I told them I live in the 5 cities and not in SLO, and it's not convenient for me. I know, because they already made a similar response on another site, that I can expect a rude response to this review - all about the protocols and procedures of Mission Animal Hospital. That's what they told me on the phone. Bottom line: if a doctor's office (a human doctor's office) can pick up the phone to confirm a prescription, a vet's office can, too. Worth every penny of care! Clean, efficient, caring, personable, and all very nice. I honestly highly recommend this place. I think that I’ve never felt more safe at a vet in my life. Very happy to bring my two-year-old beagle in and my eight-year-old long hair calico! Thank you Mission Vet!Just as a sidenote, I’ve worked at a couple different dog resort kennels in town. So with that said, I really just wanna emphasize that I know a decent amount of dog care and I know a great deal about customer service and patient care one of the best bets in town.

While vacationing on the central coast we observed our dog urinating frequently and at times with urine incontinence over nearly a week. We also noticed she was drinking more water than normal. Since we had another week on vacation we took her to Mission Animal Hospital to be evaluated. We were extremely impressed with the compassion and care their team provided. Dr Jami advised of options which were affordable and would assist in a diagnosis and next steps. Dr. Jami explained her results and created a plan of care. Dr. Jami was very knowledge and caring. We were very impressed with Dr. Jami and her team at Mission Animal Hospital and would highly recommend to those lucky to be living on the beautiful central coast.

We recently had to have our beloved pup euthanized after 12 years of companionship and a 4-month battle with cancer. The care and compassion the vets and technicians showed us and our companion during her final moments was extraordinary.I had reservations about doing this at the clinic versus having it done in-home. Everyone needs to make their own decision, but I'm grateful we went to Mission Animal Hospital. The environment was comfortable, the process was quick and peaceful, and ultimately, I can compartmentalize that time outside of my day-to-day activities. If you end up needing end-of-life care for your furry friend, know that Mission Animal Hospital is a humane option that cares for you and your pet.

I'm only writing this reviews because I am now having to deal with a bigger issue. I would NOT recommend them at all! Some of the receptionist are nice but that's it! One of my pets suffered an eye injury which was minor according to them. He had a noticeable scratch on his left eye, the first time he was seen was by Sarah Fuller. She only prescribed him something for his discomfort but nothing to fix the issue because according to her that should be enough. It was not enough as we had to keep making reservations for them to look at his eye. They were charging us for every appointment and assisted us in the waiting area instead of getting a room for our pet. Which I thought was odd since we were being charged. As a pet owner the health of my pets is my priority and all I wanted was for them to do something to help him.The third time we were assisted by Dr.Mar, she was more helpful but the overall experience is extremely disappointing and encourage others to go elsewhere. Specially if it's eye related because they don't know how to assess it properly.
