Took our truck there after an accident. We were extremely happy with the service we received. The truck looked great, the employees were friendly and the service was done quickly. I highly recommend this business.

I recently found myself in a bit of a bind with my car, and that's when I stumbled upon Ken's Auto Body Shop. Ken greeted me with a warmth that's become all too rare in the hustle and bustle of today's world. I was backing out of a parking spot and didn't see the rock, turned a little and it ripped the front bumper off, approaching almost closing time on a Friday, I drove to ken's shop. When I explained my situation, Ken didn't hesitate to help. Not only did he assist me when I needed it the most, but he also refused to charge me for the service. In a world where everything has a price, finding someone who operates with such kindness and generosity is truly refreshing. He saw a person in need and rose to the occasion. If you're ever in need of auto body services, I cannot recommend Ken enough.Thank you, Ken, for not just the outstanding work on my car, but for reminding me that there are still people who care about their fellow man.Service: Body & Trim

We we're fortunate enough to have a great experience with Ken's Body Shop years ago, with a recommendation from our mechanic, for body work, due to an accident, through our insurance coverage. For this reason we recently sought to employ Wade (Owner), once again, to help us with a "non-insurance job" on a vehicle we wanted somewhat "customized" to our personal taste. This car was purchased recently through a local car dealership. First contact was in the last week of June...as of this review writing, it is now mid August! We took the car in to the shop and spoke to Wade. He was just as pleasant and personable as we remembered him to be. We spoke about the desired end product (our vision for the customization) and at the time we're given a rough estimate of 3 - 4 thousand dollars. At that point, I started checking around and Wade's prices were always higher than other establishments quotes . Through subsequent phone conversations we discussed the "breaking up" of the customization package (original desire was to do all at once, but Spouse lost her job and our financial situation changed) into smaller jobs so we could continue to move forward, but at a slower "more affordable" pace. I understood we needed Wade's patience, and for awhile it seemed that we received it. I was worried about "bothering" him too much, so I started communicating through text messages...as it was increasingly/progressively difficult to get anyone to answer the business line phone (we left soooo many messages without any response, and when we finally received a response there was always an excuse, ie: vacation, not feeling well, staffing problems etc, etc...but really, how long does it take just to return a phone call?!). When we finally got Wade to answer our call...I asked "are you still interested in performing the work?", to which Wade responded affirmatively. We needed more explanations to the work that was being planned and I believe...no matter that Wade actually texted me and said I was not bothering him, he again "locked down" his communication. I was tired of waiting and decided at that point to have some of the customization work performed by other more "reliable" servicer(s). The work was performed quickly (one day) where as in conversation with Wade...leaving the vehicle with him for several days would have been necessary for any job. After having some of the work completed...again, we reached out (8/16 & 8/17) this time mentioning that I really would appreciate hearing from Wade so he could "do the job" instead of taking the work to a competitor...and again, all we heard were "crickets". At this point (8/19) his "silence" has become "deafening" and we are done waiting! We are tired of tell him "we appreciate you Wade". It is pretty obvious that what was once "good" had gone "bad"! When there are so many reputable local auto body establishments...why wait for someone who apparently "could care less". As I have said in many previous reviews, everyone owns their own experience BUT never have I been so disappointed with a business (in all my years as a YELPER) as to leave a such a dismal commentary. But today, this in Yelper's opinion...Ken's Body Shop on Horizon Ln in San Luis Obispo (Wade) for his non-communicative, "less than terrible" customer service...truly earned this "do not recommend, why bother when there are so many other local reputable auto body shops available, that keep the line of communication open" 1 Star review!

I am genuinely pleased with the service and work done by Kens Body Shop. My '97 GMC pickup needed a new drivers door. One other shop didn't want to bother with it and no quoted the job and another didn't even make the effort to return a phone message. Ken's took a look at it right away after the first call and followed through with the repair including dealing with a recalcitrant insurance company. Communications were good at all steps of the insurance negotiations and repair. The work was done very competently with all functions of the new door working properly and the paint looks great! I would recommend them for any body repair your vehicle might need.

They did a great job repainting a section of my '91 Chevy. A real old school body shop and good quality paint work. And they have awesome dogs!

Update from 5/26 (nearly two weeks later): Although the owner reached out with an excuse to my poor review, I still have never had a quote sent to me.I needed some rust removal done on my Sprinter van and had found Ken’s online with good reviews. Their shop’s website says they do classic car restorations, so I thought a few spots of rust on the body of my van should be no problem for them. Took it in on a Friday for a look-over to get a quote. Jeff was welcoming and helpful; took pictures and told me he would email me a quote. Monday passed with no word. Tuesday, I called and left a voicemail with no response. Wednesday morning, I called and spoke with Jeff who said he would have the quote to me by the afternoon. It’s now Saturday and I never heard from them. I’m not sure what the problem was (if they just didn’t want to do the job or if something happened), but the lack of communication is a red flag for sure.

Friendly people and a fridenly dog. They were able to color match and mix a bottle of touch up paint in 15 minutes for me, all in a very reasonable price. Would definitely recommend this place.

My car was involved in a hit and run on Aigust 27th.. I have been waiting for 3 weeks and still haven't heard from my insurance company. I took matters in my own hands and sent out message to several body shops. Wade, from Ken's automotive was the 1st to respond .not only was he the 1st to respond but he drove all the way from SLO to SM so he could give me a more accurate quote. As he was wrapping things up he stated, "If you don't go with us, no hard feelings" Wade, awesome job, excellent customer service and the fact that you didn't pressure me speaks volumes! You deserve a raise!

I drove in good faith to get an estimate from this shop after the enthusiastic owner invited me to come. What I got after driving through unpaved streets way into the outback of a ramshackle industrial park to this shop's office was being met by a "slug" of an employee not even having the wherewithal to acknowledge my presence while he filled his water jug. Thereafter, all he could muster was,, "the owner isn't here. Come back." He never offered to take my number to have someone call. There are many shops in SLO to choose from. Award your business to one that's worthy.
