I've been wanting to stay here for years. I went to Cal Poly, the university in town. Staff were friendly and helpful. Facilities were great. The cute garden and porch out front are a delight.

We're an older couple who used to love Hostels,so we tried this! Quick one night so didn't enjoy the amenities. Room clean and comfortable. We were adjacent to the pristine bathroom! Helpful staff (Gary)

Great location, right by the train station and close to the main bars/restaurants area. Very friendly staff.
Rooms: We got a private room for the 4 of us and it is limited space. And only 3 plugs working. But it was clean and the service was good

I'm so glad I remembered this place was there. I was visiting the area and my vehicle broke down ?, I needed a place that was safe and clean and near by to my mechanic that I had it towed to. Hot showers, clean sheets, and pancake breakfast in the morning, can't beat that. I'll definitely be staying again.

Beautiful experience staying at the hostel with my partner and son, very good service, everything impeccable. good ubication. There is no problem parking on the street. Keep in mind that the hostel closes from 11am to 4.30pm if I remember correctly, therefore check in is from the time it opens in the afternoon.

It used to be that you would do a chore at a hostel. The prices were a lot cheaper. Here, it's? expensive and they still hassle you about the dishes. Owner saves the day, mostly nice guests. Some of my things were missing including tea I bought back from Hawaii. Owner needs to get rid of Gary and Tiffany. They have emotional problems and they hassle the guests. Trying to get a refund for a few days because of their behavior. Gary was swatting at imaginary things in the air. Scary.Safety: Current help is scary and the place was freezing.

Glad we took a private room, which was incredibly nice, but wouldn't go there in a dortoir. Seems old and creepy, just like some of the guests were. This is not a young hip place at all, but it did the trick. Calm n friendly neighborhood thoFood & drinks: Breakfast was satisfyingNoteworthy details: The main private room is amaaaazing

I had never stayed at a hostel before, but the price was right and I was in town for a Spartan race (I am 57). Gary was so wonderful when I checked in Friday night, and though I was gone the whole day the next day, I had some wonderful conversation Saturday night, and thoroughly enjoyed Sunday pancake breakfast before departing. The room was fine, the bathrooms are clean, and the people were very friendly. Washer & dryer were available, and so were bicycles, but I did not use them. I stayed 2 nights, and yes - there were 5 of us women in one room (it was a full house) - but even though I had the "squeaky bed", I had some of the best sleep I had gotten in quite some time.I would stay here again in a heartbeat. Definitely beat being alone in a sketchy Motel 6. Try it - you might like it (like I did!).

Rooms not clean. Bathroom not clean. In case you need an iron bring it with you because the hostel does not have one.

Hostel International is a proven institution for travelers (not tourists) with millions of devoted clientele around the world. It's aim is to provide clean and affordable accommodations with the opportunity to share meals and socialize. Obispo is in a fantastic location, beautiful soulful house very quiet and cozy, with welcoming staff. Loved the open kitchen/living area which screams "let's talk"! And coffee with pancakes is a great extra! However know that while most rooms are shared and you can pay for a private room, those rooms are Spartan - no extras at all. Just beds and maybe a desk, no side tables or a place to hang your clothes. But for HI travellers it's about the experience, not amenities. So don't book if you want 5-star treatment. Do book if you want to save money, hang out with world travelers and soak up good vibes and great local info.

NEVER STAY HERE! DEPLORABLE CONDITIONS! 0/10I've stayed in almost every hostel in California and this was one of the most disgusting private rooms I've ever stayed in! The smell was worse than the stains all over the bed and walls--microwaved fish and week-old wet dog food! It took everything in me to stay in this place and I was so deeply disappointed by the conditions. I've never been so disappointed with a hostel in my adult life!

It was my 1st time at a hostel and I thought my experience was great! The rooms and bathrooms were very clean. It was located in a quiet and safe neighborhood. Gary was very welcoming and made you feel as if you were in your grandmother's house.See you soon!
