I went there to buy lumber they took my monies gave me a reciept told me to go in the back lumber area to get help three guys on fork lifts just looked at me a drove by waited half an hour said screw this went and got my money back horrible system there

Don't be put off by poor reviews, Hayward Lumber is big, they have pretty much exactly what you want, at least when it comes to Lumber (that's the name of the business after all). We very nearly didn't go here because of several bad reviews. All I can say is that the reviewers must have been unlucky, because the experience my wife and I had was outstanding.As far as being helpful, one of the staff went out of his way to walk across the yard to seek us out to ask if we needed help. When we outlined our requirements, he guided us to another part of the yard and found us the most cost effective option, which turned out to be exactly what we were looking for. The checkout staff were also helpful and friendly, this will certainly be my "go-to" place for lumber in the future.One word of caution, because they mainly deal with large contracts/contractors don't expect the "Ace Hardware" treatment if you go during their busy times, we went when it was quiet and there were staff available to help.

It's a very tight driveway to enter the yard call ahead to make sure their's someone available to unload you but very nice people ?

October 2021 Left message on the sales rep's cell about ordering doors and no return call. November called again and we ordered our $6800 set of doors - exciting! Early December was told doors would be arriving on December 21st so blocked off my Airbnb due to the noise of delivery and installation. December 21st - was told they would not be arriving so lost out on that Airbnb booking. I understand delays...just give me the worst-case scenario from the start so I can plan. January 24th - day of delivery, the sales rep emails for our address, as he can't find it. Doors are delivered and the hinges weren't placed correctly in their hinge pockets and the doors were crooked and not closing. $6800 doors should work...right? January 27th - I emailed the sales rep and he responded quickly to get something resolved. February 4th - Didn't hear back so I reach out to the sales rep to see if we can get compensation or the manufacturer out to fix this. He replied saying he's still trying to work with the dealer and wanted to come out to take pictures. We scheduled February 9 for him to take pictures and he cancels that day due to having Covid and wants to reschedule for the following week. I understand and agree that's fine. Feb 25th - I email because I haven't heard anything. March 1st - I email again...and the sales rep replies that the vendor will have an answer tomorrow about giving us a credit. March 2 - Sales rep emails - still waiting to hear back from Orepac and just got his boss involved to get an answer sooner. March 18 - I email again because I haven't heard anything. March 18 - Sales rep emails and offers to come out himself to repair the doors or he could still "push" Orepac. March 22 - I email - amazed that neither Hayward management nor the manufacturer could provide support for a $6800 door. No answer. April 18th - I called Hayward corporate office to see what could be done and she recommended I speak to the SLO store manager - I speak to store manager. April 21st - Two people come out to work on the doors and they function better. Then I was asked to write a review of my experience with Hayward Lumber, as it's not nice to say bad things about people. I don't believe he had the full story so here it is folks. Here is our truly lovely Weyrick Lumber Window order experience that I will post on their Yelp page: Rick Johnson called me back the same day I left a message Jan - ordered windows and he let me know the windows would be ready in April and gave me the name of a window installation company not associated with Weyrick. April - He contacted s the day before delivery with the timeframe the windows would be delivered in April (yay!). He made sure I still had the installer's information and also Cc'd the installer on that email. Windows delivered on time. Rick checked in that day to be sure the windows arrived and were ok. We scheduled with the installer, had the windows installed promptly, and Rick checked in later that day to be sure his recommendation worked out and we were satisfied from beginning to end.

I think they are getting better.....dropped the ball on many an attempt at pricing and helping of my customers. Horrible customer service.

Worst customer service ever!! When calling Hayward in SLO, they make you feel like you’re bothering them and are very impatient just having a conversation about material materials that were ordered and should have been in days ago!! I have called four times in the last two days in twice I was told they would call me back within an hour and never called back

My fiancé and I walked in to price out some lumber for a deck in our backyard. Ted greeted us right away and took us through all our options... Even giving us design ideas that we are going to use. Great customer service!!!

It has been a challenging year with suppliers not having product to ship it is hard to fill empty shelves. Hayward has been working hard to keep prices down even with suppliers increasing their price.

The service, knowledge & experience of Hayward's employees (specifically Rudy) is exemplary. I purchased my Kolbe doors & windows from Hayward about 5 yrs ago when I did a major remodel of my home in Morro Bay. Hayward was terrific to work with at that time. Recently my front door had an issue for which the local locksmith could not address. I discovered when contacting Hayward that they no longer carry Kolbe product, and obtaining service from Kolbe to fix the problem would have been a nightmare. Rudy (of Hayward Lumber) offered to trouble-shoot my problem directly with Kolbe and worked with me over several months to solve the problem and get a replacement part. Rudy was very knowledgeable, skilled, friendly to work with ... and did not give up with Kolbe until he resolved my problem. Hayward stood behind a product that they no longer carry. Bravo !!!

I had help as I walked into the building. Employee was knowledgeable and polite. Saved so much time. Clean and efficient. I will be very happy to return again and stay away from the big box stores

Stopped by to get a few SUR/SUL hangers. They were not very friendly or contractor price friendly. It felt like I was paying homeowners price. I would not recommend the Santa Maria location. The SLO location is much better
