We stay at this motel once a year for a special event. The rooms are basic...nothing special. The staff are really pretty cool. The best part about this motel is the location. You can easily walk to downtown shops and restaurants within minutes. The rooms might not be anything amazing but I have never had a problem with cleanliness or bugs or anything of that sort.Rooms: They do offer select options and my preferred is with two beds separated like a suite. They do have limited amounts of these available.Nearby activities: Irish pub right down the street. 24 hr gas station across the street and also a bakery.Safety: Never had anything broken into. I have left my car in the back parking lot and even on the side street with no problemsWalkability: Just about anything you could want close by. I will say as a reminder to people that San Luis shuts down most food places pretty early compared to other cities. One of the only 24 hr options is a McDonald's down the road a bit.

This Inn is located just off the heart of the city downtown. It's clean. The hot water was good. The television channel selection is very limited.

We will not return. Bedsheets were not washed: we found sand & hair in them. All rooms reek of overpowering chemical cleaners that triggered asthma and made us wheeze: we had to sleep w windows open in this noisy, budget courtyard-motel setting w/ cars coming & going all night. Mattresses were serviceable, but even those in group w preference for firm beds found them harsh. Rooms are small and dark. $170/night is not budget pricing and given the utter lack of comfort here, I’d advise others to pay a bit more to breathe easier and get a better night’s sleep elsewhere.

The cons: parking is first come first serve even for paying guests. They have a VERY strict 11am checkout, if you are not out by 11 you are charged $50 for each hour. The rooms aren't super well lt unless the curtains are drawn but being be a motel that means everyone walking by can see right in. There's no streaming, just local TV.The pros: everything else. With the fan on, it's quiet enough from exterior noises. The bed is comfy, the room is clean and equipped with a good size dorm fridge, microwave, coffee. The shower had good pressure. The location is great for strolling a few blocks into downtown without to having to pay for parking (assuming you're not unlucky and arrive with the lot full!).I would stay again but I really don't like the inflexibility of checkout... I mean come one, everyplace I have stayed out gives you at least a 15 minute cushion and I've stayed at 1,000's of hotels/motels.

Wouldn’t stay here again, they harass you to leave before checkout time and the lights in the room are brighter white than the sun, not relaxing at all. Also $50 for late checkout feels steep. Pay a little more and stay somewhere else.

I stayed here recently with my 10yo daughter on our drive down from the Bay Area to LA. It was fine for one night but I couldn't imagine staying here any longer. I snagged the last parking spot, which was fortuitously right in front of the room I was assigned. But be forewarned that parking is not guaranteed. There was a sign that stated parking was on a first come, first served basis. This in itself would dissuade me from staying here again. The room was tiny but contained a table and two chairs, fridge, microwave. Everything was clean. I was worried about the noise since we were just off the parking lot and there was a room above us, but we slept soundly. Beds were comfortable but the pillows were a tad lumpy. Easy walk to downtown for ice cream the night before and breakfast the next morning. I paid about $284 total for the room, which seems high but I guess that's the market rate. Very convenient getting on and off the freeway, with a gas station right in front to fill up before continuing on your car trip. As other reviewers have mentioned, it's stress-inducing to be told that you would be charged $50 for every 30 minutes you overstay your welcome. As anyone with young kids knows, it's hard to get them to move quickly when you want them to! We left our room at 10:59 a.m. and I hustled over to the lobby to return my key, stressed the entire time.

Rooms were clean and nicely remodeled. Good-sized TV with remote and lots of channels. Room was fairly quiet. The manager was polite and patient, as he had to check us into five separate rooms. Not keen on the threats of further charges for late check-out though! (Up to $200 MORE?! Really?!) I'm sure it works to get patrons OUT by 11:00, but since my phone alarm failed, it put me in a PANIC!! I didn't appreciate that added stress.Easy access to/from the 101.Nearby activities: Easy walk to SLO's sweet "Creekside" Walking Path. Pick it up on Nipomo by the Children's Museum, and follow it over to Mission Plaza. Lots of eateries have "back patios" hanging over the tree-lined creek, so it's a delightful place to hang out! The Mission gives Tours, or you can just walk through it on your own when it's open. It actually does have a Sunday Mass! Sometimes the City sponsors events or music at Mission Plaza, so it's nice to be able to walk there & back from where you're staying.Walkability: Besides taking the Creekside Walk to the Mission, you can easily walk downtown to see the Jack House, grab a more gourmet coffee or tea, or a meal at numerous walkable restaurants & cafes. Lots of shops downtown too - all along Higuera & Marsh, & the block in-between. Some nice Thrift Stores on S. Higuera, closer to the Hotel.

Location was great. Walking distance away from lots of restaurants/coffee shops and the 101. That being said, some of my main complaints were:1. They charge for early check in. I noticed the motel was very empty but I was still told I would not be able to check in without a fee.2. Showers were absolutely terrible. I couldn't take a shower without either hitting my elbow on the door or hitting the wall fixtures (shampoo/conditioner). I have never had this issue at anywhere else I've stayed.3. The door was so difficult to get into. It took me multiple tries to get into the door. These are just a few of the things that stuck out and why I would not recommend staying here. It's not worth the good location.

We stayed one night. The reception guys are kind and helpful. The room was very clean. The parking lot is nice. Location is very effective right off the highway and very close to downtown. It was great value for us.

My wife and I loved our stay here! Right off the main drag in downtown SLO, and just off the 101 freeway. We met with Saul who couldn’t have been more accommodative, showing us a map of the area with places to hit, and where to live as we were apartment hunting in town. Our room was very comfortable and updated - don’t let the facade fool you! As we determined we needed another day to look at apartments, we ended up coming back for another night! We’ll return to stay here should we not have an apartment yet next time we’re in the area, and we’d absolutely recommend :)

Avenue Inn Downtown SLO was very clean and close to the half a mile walk from the SLO’s farmers market. They maintain policy. Lastly, in my opinion, you get the value for your money.Pros: Pillows, lots of extra pillows and blankets as needed, plenty of towels, very clean, smells great when we walked in, and friendly staff.Cons: No breakfast, could hear fellow travelers knocking, list of channels on paper would be nice, and wifi is a bit weak.

Room 116. Paid for a room with a queen size bed and got a full/double instead. I don’t know if they’re just trying to take advantage of people and hope they don’t notice? They don’t even offer a single double bed as a reservation. I didn’t appreciate being bait-and-switched. I have a queen size bed at home so well aware of the size. For two adults, fitting into a bed that small is not fun. There was very little room to move around in the room - the end of the bed was about 10 inches from the tv/microwave/fridge cabinet so you had to literally shuffle sideways.I appreciated the microwave and fridge in the room. The pillows were very comfortable. The bed could really use replacing - it dipped in the middle. And to management: please don’t leave your generic “we’re sorry to hear about your experience and hope you’ll come back again” line in response to my review. It doesn’t mean anything and is lazy customer service to not rectify anyone’s poor experience at your business. Move along.

This hotel has the most powerful parking lot night lights I have seen in my life. Very proactive move on their part. The area isn't the best and by far not the worst. Room was clean and the little kitchen had a table with two chairs, a microwave, coffee maker, sink and mini fridge/freezer. There isn't a safe in the room. The bathroom could use a shelf and the room needs a list with the TV channels/names so you know which channels you have. Other then that it's a cool little place to stay near downtown.
