I am a Mexican American small business owner I have been shop using their hot tortilla service for about four years now and we have had some good times and bad times dealing with them however today was just over excessive bad customer service from Adriana the manager I came in for my daily Tortillas) like always between 930 and 10 AM and they were not ready was three representatives making tortillas because they make them warm daily however she would not stop to make my six packs that I need for to start my business every morning and refused to make them telling me I had to wait two hours putting my business at Holt I told her how I deal with them daily and she just did not care she said I am just one of thousands of her customers therefore I had to leave the store with no customer service information because I did request it I wanted to speak to her (Adriana)manager she refused to produce that information and told me to seek it out on Google therefore I am on yelp trying to figure out that information anybody who can share a direct customer service number with Cardenas market would be greatly appreciate it.

Not surprised to see that this is rated only 2 stars. This place is ridiculous, the workers especially Esmeralda A. Is rude and very unprofessional. She should definitely not be working in customer service if she has no people skills. Today there was an incident in which this individual listed above had the nerve to do. She rang me up asked how many bags I needed, started bagging my items and then all of sudden said for me to BAG MY OWN STUFF while her unprofessional self walked away to another cashier???? Does that make any sense to you??????? Or logically she just has issues???? Hopefully a manager is to read this review to see how they have rude, unprofessional, un skilled employees. Definitely will not be coming to this Cardenas again.

One word: magical! San José has plenty of mercados both large and small but this specific store is my favorite & go-to. One, it's always clean and orderly when I go. Two, it is well stocked and I always find what I am looking for (and more). The staff are super friendly and the quality of the products are fantastic. I don't come here as my regular grocery store but when I do, I'm always super happy because it reminds me of Mexico. It's unbelievable the amount of products they have. What do I typically get? -Produce: you can't beat the prices and freshness - Meats: I love getting their taco meat and making tacos at home -Prepared salsas: they have their own refrigerated and made in house salsas. I've tried them all and they all taste like my Mom made them. So many options, too! - Deli: I cannot express how many cheeses, meats, and seafood are in the deli! Prepared food too like salads, ceviches, etc. - Pan dulce: I'm super picky about my pan dulce, but their mini conchas are so delicious! That is the only kind I buy here because the bread has a hint of cinnamon that is unique. This is the best place to go to if you're having a Mexican menu for guests/party! Only downside is that it is always busy. The self check out has been great to avoid long lines but I think it is worth it!

Their weekly specials is great but sometimes run out of stock too frequently. For instance, they ran out of the papaya that's on special. But these papayas can be found in its nearby store in Julian street. Store is large and has a food court section with tables and chairs to sit in. Self checkout kiosks available.

There produce is always limited, some have even gone bad. Like rotten bad. There meat department is so nasty, meat seems dried up from being in the display for days. It's so unappealing. Their service has tremendous gone down with only 2 cashiers for 15 customers waiting to purchase. I rather go to Safeway or Chavez and spend a little more than get nasty spoiled food at Cardenas.

Lazy workers. Saturday, parking lot if full, no shopping carts collected, customers are going back out to the parking lot to get one. 1. Deli section - 4 employees working, there is a line of 10 people. Only ONE employee is helping customers, getting food, weighting, and pricing while the other 3 employees are talking to each other. The crowd was none to please about that. 2. Full house, 3 register is opened, self-service at least 10 or more waiting Word of advise. Fire the manager that is taking control of this store.

I love their weekly specials here as they always have good deals no matter if you are shopping for produce or fresh meat. I don't usually like café food from grocery stores but this place is on point 90% of the time. I'll destroy a burrito from here in seconds, The fillers are always fresh and the meat is always properly trimmed. Hands-down, their chicharonne is straight fire, especially right out of the fryer. The skin crackling is oh so satisfying and the tenderness and heat from the meat layer melts like butter in your mouth. This shit will kill you for sure, but you will die happy.

No stars!!! Went here for Christmas Eve tamales. I bought twelve queso ones and twelve pork. They were not filled with grated cheese. They (queso) we're all filled with a piece of string cheese and a jalapeño with 95% of it being masa. If you don't have two glasses of water to wash that dried up crap down you better have someone nearby to save you from choking on what Cardena's calls a tamale. Shame on them for selling such a piss poor version of what a traditional Mexican family would call Christmas dinner. DO NOT waste your money or time on their tamales. They are for lack of a better word NASTY! I would have been better off watching you tube and attempting to make them myself. Looking at the photo you can clearly see the string cheese and thick thick thick band of dried masa. I was robbed by this place. Hard earned money down the drain. Buyer beware!

Today will be my first and last time coming into this establishment. This review is for the pre-made/"deli" section of the market. My dad saw good prices for the burritos here and thought we'd try a different place other than La Vic's or Iguana's. First off, the workers didn't identify where the line started for ordering food or just picking food. Then, the REGULAR burrito was listed as $8.49 and that's what my dad thought he was getting, but after paying, they rang it up at $9.99 (before tax). My dad tried telling the cashier that it was $8.49 on the menu above the cash register and they kept telling us that it was $9.99 and that the prices were all marked up. The issue isn't money spent, it's how they're misleading with their prices by not updating the new prices. They did not tell us the regular burrito was $9.99 before making it and rang it up in hopes we were too busy to notice. The workers were also just disorganized and a mess and I hope management does improve here. Spend your time and money elsewhere in the SJ area for other Mexican food.

I love coming here for fresh, cheap produce. But I will not be back after my last experience. I picked up a pork shoulder from here for 4th of July, but what I got was rotten piece of meat. When I took it out of the package, it smelt so disgusting, my whole house smelt like sulfur and farts and put my mom close to throwing up. I was supposed to cook this for family coming over for the holiday and the 30$ piece of meat I bought smelt so bad that I had to run outside and throw it away. It was absolutely disgusting. The smell from it was so distributing that I will never be back.
