Love them. Just love them, everything is changing in a great way. To be honest the new staff is also killing it with greeting & making this place more into a community.

Not sure if the person worked there or was just another customer, but people look out for each others safety! Harness legs were swapped (newbie error) and someone came up and mentioned it. For a Friday at 8pm, surprisingly not that packed so it was very nice as a first time guest.

Best climbing studio in the area. I made the move to the light side from movement. Certified me on the spot. The receptionist made me feel super welcome when I told him I was coming from movement. The restorative yoga class was Ariana was a knowledgeable, gentle, and mindful teacher. The vibe here is super chill and inviting unlike some elitists I seen at the other joint. Highly recommend. Individual and family memeberships available (place is super kid friendly).

Friendly staff and coach assigned to the set of people. They hells and guides well. Price is affordable still feel its little costly. Kids enjoyed thir time. Since its my 1st time struggle to find free parking on Sunday. Finally took paid parking near by $20/day. Couldn’t find hourly parking. Its my fault as I didn’t explore parking before going. The studio climbing provides free parking in certain places. Referring the image. Weekends finding street parking is difficult. Its really worth ?

Amazing staff, great location, walls for days. So many great climbing options; whether climbing alone or with friends. With challenges for novice climbers as well as seasoned veterans, this gym does not miss.

This climbing gym was converted from an old theater in downtown San Jose. Very cool! You can find small details remaining from the previous theater. Smaller location, but we enjoyed coming here very much. They do have the top roping here, a huge plus. Street parking only, but we had no issues parking on the same block the two times we went. We look forward to visiting again in the future when we are in the Bay Area!

This review is only for the *fitness* portion of "The Studio," not the climbing portion. I've visited nine of Touchstone's fourteen climbing gyms around the state, and while The Studio definitely embodies many of Touchstone's great qualities, it also falls short in some respects. Unlike many of Touchstone's other gyms, the fitness section at The Studio definitely feels like an afterthought. There's definitely enough here to get a workout in, but there's also many things that you won't be able to do. The Studio has a full range of dumbells, two squat racks, multiple benches, barbells, a few kettlebells, a few cable machines, and some cardio machines. The most glaring omissions are bumper plates (they have a couple 10lb bumper plates, but don't expect to be able to deadlift or olympic lift here), as well as a lifting platform. The space is also fairly small and I can see it getting really crowded during nights and weekends. Around the rest of the gym, there's clean bathrooms with lockers and showers, all the drinks and snacks you would expect to find at a gym like this, and a helpful staff.

Overall, The Studio Climbing is an excellent facility with a positive environment. The front desk rep was exceptionally friendly and easily convinced my friend and me to sign up upon our first visit. With that said, the intro course you have with your instructor can really make or break the experience. As someone with high anxiety and a minor fear of heights, it is imperative to work with a coach who is patient and amicable. It is a bit intimidating to work with a coach with a condescending tone and unfriendly demeanour— in such scenarios, it is easy to 'tilt' and lose focus on the learning process. As a professional educator, I understand how crucial it is to work with an instructor who you feel comfortable with. In sum, would I recommend the gym? Most definitely. Nevertheless, the quality of your experience will be contingent on who teaches you. Had I worked with the guy who signed me up, I most likely would have continued my membership.

Love this gym. It’s relatively small but great use of space, well kept, clean and great fitness classes / instructors.

So I've been climbing at this gym for 2.5 years, and thought I'd finally leave a review. I'll break it down into pros n cons: Pros: -Top rope area is large and pretty fun. No autobelays though, sadly. -General vibe of the place is warm and friendly -It's a pretty good gym for beginners, V1-3 is pretty fun, and the environment isn't overly competitive. Cons: -It seems like in order to enjoy this gym, you have to be at least 5'8 and male...as a 5'5 (Which Is Actually Above Average) woman, I'm constantly running into: holds I literally cannot reach by exactly 1-3 inches, footholds at neck height, footholds that require the splits to use, and worst of all, unsafe throws to small holds where the intended beta was to be taller and just reach it statically. And also insane shoulder moves which require you to be a young man on PED's to perform. In fact, in my entire 2.5 years climbing here, I've only seen maybe 5 women climb V5+ at this gym, and all of them had either been climbing for 10+ years, or is on an official climbing team. I assume many women who climb here are discouraged by the biased setting, and end up going to another gym instead. -The grading of problems needs work, as does the safety of certain moves. Sometimes, V4/5 problems will just randomly have one move where you have to pull at a V7 level, which is obviously dangerous. As a V6 climber with pretty strong fingers/forearms, I have literally injured tendons/pulleys on V4/5 problems because a random move would just catch me off guard. -Even though the overall vibe of the gym is pretty friendly and warm, there are definitely a few people you have to watch out for. That's all I'm saying. 95% of people are really nice though. Also, the social scene at this gym can be a bit cliquey at times; if you know people, you'll have a great time, but if you don't, you might feel left out, or like it's hard to strike up a conversation with anyone. -The bouldering area can be a bit small and crowded at peak hours, and they don't really set new boulders that often, like sometimes it's two weeks before there's a new set. Overall it's an okay gym, fix the Biased Route Setting and this gym would be 4/5 for sure

Took time off to spend time w/ Gavin during his spring break. It's his last year in grade school so I wanted to expose him to other activities other than the things he's comfortable w/. I brought this place up because he enjoyed "rock climbing" at The Plex. Street parking wasn't issue, but we came on a Thursday morning. It's metered parking so be prepared to whip out your change or card. Everyone that walk through the doors need to fill out a waiver - iPad next to the entrance/exit. It's $29 for a day pass. I don't remember if there was a fee to rent the shoes. The restrooms are in the front w/ hand sanitizer available. The bathrooms are clean. They sell beverages like sodas, protein shakes, juice.. and snacks like candy at the front. Because he's new and I'm not belaying, we went straight to the boulder area. No harnesses needed and plenty of rock-climbing obstacles to satisfy your problem-solving skills. A small gym area if you want to lift weights or do some cardio. We were both new and had a great time there.

I went with my friend to take an intro to climbing class on a Saturday morning. Our instructor, Ryan, was excellent at teaching my the basics to our small group clearly, concisely, and patiently. I appreciated the support given with every step in the process of belaying and climbing. The facility itself was quite spacious, clean, and exiting to explore as a new climber. I'd recommend this place for sure (:

have visited it once for an introduction class and some practice afterwards, and loved it a lot! I've never done climbing before but the people who work there are very helpful. the gear is included in the price of the ticket but you can bring your own if you have it. also don't forget chalk!

I had an amazing time at The Studio Climbing San Jose! This small but cozy rock climbing gym was a hidden gem. The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming, and the gym was kept impeccably clean. The routes were rotated frequently, providing a constantly evolving challenge for climbers of all levels. The equipment was top-notch, and the yoga room was a fantastic addition. The bouldering area was a little small, but the sauna and changing rooms more than made up for it. The membership price was very reasonable, and it even granted access to all other Touchstone gyms. As a student, I appreciated the hefty discount offered to SJSU students. My advice? Try to join when they waive the initiation fee! Overall, I highly recommend The Studio Climbing San Jose to anyone looking for a fun and challenging workout experience.
