Toured this complex in Dec 2023, the staff was quite nice but ultimately we decided against renting here.
The apartment seemed nice enough although I wasn't crazy about the location.

Management is great, but there is drug dealing and crime surrounding all 3 entrances to the building. I would not recommend anyone else live here. Absolutely unsafe.

Loved my time at the James apartment. Lived there for 6 months, had zero complaints. Management/ leasing office communicate excellent with the residents. 10/10 apartment complex. comfortable and safe living environment!

As a long term resident here at this apartment, I can attest that the majority of negative reviews for the James was due to the incompetent and uncaring actions of the previous management. In the recent months since a new management company has taken over, I have nothing but good things to say about the James. For example, the old staff were never in office during open hours, as they were often closed for any or whatever reason, and enver returning calls. The new staff not only keeps the office open when it's open hours, but they've quickly and promptly taken care of all requests I've had. I can finally recommend the James to anyone looking for a excellent place to call home.

This place had a very poorly managed leasing office and it had incompetent staff who do not even try to appear good in their behavior or communication. Their approach to their job was like college kids and the tenants had to coach them every now and then. Some of the elevators are broken for 2+ months in a calendar year. Some elevators break 1-2 times each month. Staff did not even update the tenant each time they are broken.Security was a joke. They had a good onsite security in 2020 and then they kept changing to other companies which did not provide any appropriate patrol or onsite duties. Security was incapable of dealing with theft of packages or homeless people walking into the building premises. Bikes and packages were stolen multiple times. And above all, they want to charge for fake things during the move out process. They charged me for "heavy duty trash removal" when I had only a few pieces of cleaning clothes which could not weigh more than 1lb combined.

Management is just SHAMEFUL!! We made a self-guided tour on 9/11, but a more suitable apartment was going to be available to tour on Friday 9/15, so we made an appointment. We showed up the day and time of the appointment, only to see that they were already closed. I spoke to the "lady" (through a curtain, I guess she was ashamed) who scheduled our appointment because she was still there and only said that they were closed and I needed to rescheduled. What!!?? If you want to leave work earlier on a Friday, DON'T SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT IF YOU ARE NOT GOING TO KEEP IT!! My time is valuable, too!!Fortunately, this made us realize the kind of people who manage this property and we don't want anything to do with them. If you appreciate formality, stay away from this place.

Leasing team is absolutely horrible, huge fee when moving out and a very bad and noisy public area! Would not recommend!

Not wheelchair accessible or a great place to stay if you have children in strollers. Elevators are down most of the time. They are constantly working on the elevators, but they are down a lot still. The only bad thing about this place.

DO NOT expect your security deposit back. I got $30 back and left the place as close to spotless as possible. If you decide to move here, expect to lose your deposit, be forced to pay the valet trash even if you don’t need it, and to see random homeless people in the apartment building with little no security to stop it.I was thrilled to move in and even more thrilled to move out once I learned management from top down didn’t care about their tenants. Except Carlos, Luis, and the janitor (who’s name I never got). They were cool. Also, since moving out a year ago, it’s apparently gotten worse (based on the group chat). Bikes being stolen, mailroom being unlocked (with packages in them), and glass being broken. If you think this place is a deal, there’s a reason for that.

Decided not to move here based on reviews, the surrounding area, and how we were treated by the Management team. Scheduled my tour weeks in advance and flew into California to tour - as I am waiting in the leasing office for my tour to start, I get a text 5 minutes before the tour that there are no available rooms to tour. Would have been nice to know PRIOR to flying down or at least more than 5 minutes before my tour started. The representative in the office assisting us made it seem like it was my problem and really did not care at all that we were frustrated about this experience - zero sympathy or effort to assist/help the situation. Easy decision not to schedule an additional tour when floor plans opened up. Disappointed because, going into the tour, it was my favorite complex.

don't be fooled by the pics..the homeless people surrounding this place are really bad. I didnt have as bad an experience as others have but I wouldn't recommend staying on the left hand side of the place it faces st James park where the loud homeless people hang out all day.elevator broke three times a week. hot tub was broken once a month. Monique is a nice manager but the rest just didnt wanna do their job. apartments are nice inside and very big.

UPDATE: We loved it so much we’re moving back. We went to another apartment complex closer to my wife’s job because she wanted a shorter commute. She said it’s not worth it, she’d rather come back to The James and have a longer commute. I can barely wait until the movers get here!Original review:I’ve been here for almost 15 months and I’ve loved living here!!Management is very helpful and are all genuinely just very kind people. I would shout someone out specifically, but every single person who works here has been phenomenal.Maintenance is absolutely amazing. They’re very responsive. When you put a maintenance request in they’re always there within a couple of days at most. Carlos is very nice and makes you feel comfortable while he’s working in your home (and he’s great with animals). He explains things very well and is obviously very knowledgeable about what he’s doing. It’s very animal friendly! There’s tons of dogs, if you leave your unit you have a pretty high chance of seeing at least one dog. There’s also a dog spa so you can have a designated space for bathing your baby. I highly recommend this place if you have animals!I think the walls are pretty thick. I’ve either never had a next door neighbor or they’re so thick I haven’t been able to hear them. I can hear people upstairs sometimes, but it’s only when they’re maybe building furniture (with a hammer) or dropping something that sounds really heavy. You don’t hear them just walking around. We’re moving out only because we’re moving closer to my wife’s job since work from home is over for her. I know I can speak for both of us when I say we’ll truly miss it here.

Terrible management. The elevator broke for two months in my last three months here. I have to climb fourteen floors per day. The happiest thing in my recent life is getting rid of this apartment
