I highly, highly recommend Highlight Solar. I shopped around for months/weeks in trying to hire a reliable company that carries the best brands (i chose the newest and most reliable REC 420w alpha-pure model). and offer the best prices and warranty. I received several offers from the best local businesses that were recommended on yelp as well as Testa (online solar application). In the end, I chose Highlight. I wanted a large, custom-designed system that Tesla was unable to provide me. Tesla is very strict in their design and wont maximize my roof surface area that other local companies could. Tesla also installs lesser-quality panels (hanwha 400w QCells) that most customers wont know until they are unloaded from their trucks. Im willing to bet that their customers think they are getting "tesla" solar panels. Be forewarned if you are not aware of this.
I wanted a large 13+ kw system and two powerwall 3s and tesla could only design me a maximum 8kw system, nothing more. I declined and got my online deposit back. Sunrun quoted me 40% more than Highlight for the same exact design for 13kw. Another reputable San Jose-based solar company (nearby Highlight’s office) price quote was 20% more. A very reputable solar company in Livermore was close in price but still more than Highlight. It was a no brainer, i chose Highlight and it was the best decision ever. I received my initial consultation from Ali. He is very knowledgeable and understands what the customer needs are. I locked in a very, very reasonable contract with him in May. I thought I had to wait a long time for my install given how recent the Powerwall 3 was just released (Tesla said delivery time is
3-4 weeks and perhaps more) and other local installers told me their wait is 8-12 weeks. But nope, the owner Dean worked his magic and was able to get me my two powerwall 3s in 2 days! I got the install crew led by Nick on my roof 2 weeks after signing my contract. Nick and the install crew were very meticulous and easy to work with. My roof install came out clean with no damage to my tiles. Dean is super responsive, knowledgeable, friendly and professional. Whenever i had a question, i was able to send him a text and receive a reply within minutes. I dont think you can get that from Tesla or other companies; much less so from the actual Boss. The technical lead who oversaw my complete install was Samir. I received nothing but 5-star service from him (super hard working guy!). He came out to ensure everything was working correctly, even in the recent 105 degree heatwave. Samir knows the products well and was able to get the system running in no time. Sam took care of all the paperwork, inspections, and logistics. Sam was very dedicated to the project and extremely helpful in every step of the process. I can't thank Highlight Solar enough for giving me the grid freedom that I always wanted and made the process extremely easy and at an affordable price. Well recommended! Call now! Dont waste the summer sun.

couldn't be more satisfied with my experience with Highlight Solar. I had received a quote from another company and fortunately I didn't go with the 'other guys' because Ali found some discrepancies in THEIR plans that would have cost me time, money, and a total nightmare. After bringing this lack of communication issue to the other company’s attention, they apologized for the oversight. I can't thank Highlight Solar enough! From the initial quote to the solar installation and through to commissioning day, the staff was extremely helpful and professional, answering all of my questions. Sam and the entire Highlight Solar installation team remained in contact with me through the whole process and kept me updated on its progress, which I appreciate.
I give Highlight Solar my full endorsement as a client. I highly recommend the company and I recommend the staff even higher. Top notch service at an unbeatable honest price. Look no further!

This review is long overdue, but working with Highlight Solar has been one of the best contractor experiences I ever had. I signed a contract with them in Spring of 2023. I chose them in part because they were the only company that gave me confidence that they could meet the NEM2 deadline that was fast approaching. Despite an extremely tight timeline -- my first contact with them was only a month before the deadline -- they executed like clockwork and got us in just under the wire, which we greatly appreciated. While of course it's too late now for NEM2, any company that can pull that off is highly worthy of your consideration. In addition to the flawless execution, their pricing was competitive, and they communicated extremely well and always let us know what to expect at each stage of the process. I can't recommend this company any more highly -- give them a call and you'll be glad you did!

I have done business with Dean and his team at Highlight Solar three times over the last 8 years, and have always appreciated their ethical and professional business approach. Eight years ago they were a much smaller business than today, yet they impressed us with their value-oriented, intelligent offerings and customer service that were head and shoulders above what was offered by much larger companies. This last month, we discovered that a job that they installed for us in 2019 had a city building permit that was not closed out due to the city having no records of a completed inspection. I emailed Dean and he called me within the day even though his business was much larger and he had a much larger span of control now. It was not clear whether his staff forgot to schedule the inspection or the city lost those records, but the team went into action. They contacted city staff to learn that the old permit had expired. They were then told that a new permit had to be applied for, due to new requirements. They had to draw up a new plan to comply with newer building and electrical code. It also cost them a new permit fee. They did all that without any delay, scheduled the inspection, sent out a technician in advance to ensure that everything would pass, and got the inspection to pass without any difficulty or complication. I recommend Highlight Solar highly, as they not only get the job done professionally from the start, but if there is any error or unanticipated problems 4.5 years later, I can depend on them to set things right.

I was referred by a friend, and made the best decision.
I ditched Tesla and went ahead with Highlight Solar.
The best panels quality, good customer service and responses along the way, 2 thumbs up!
Sam, Dean, Samir, Fatima and whole crews were very nice and helpful.
I always recommend Highlight to whoever asked me about my solar systems.

This company and its team is really wired to win! I worked with Samir from initial phase of quotation, site visit until the installation phase. He is easy going, genuine, professional and efficient throughout the entire process. He was able to come by for site visit shortly after we talked over the phone (that's amidst the busiest time where everyone tried to make it for NEM 2.0 due date). On the installation day, Samir and his crew again showed the highest level of professionalism. The installation process was super super efficient and fast. We are now waiting for the City inspection to be scheduled, and looking forward to working with Samir and his team to close the project smoothly and quickly. Highly recommend!

I got enphase inverters and q cell panels (19) installed around 8 months ago. Samir was amazing to work with right from the start. He is a delightful person to work with. We got the most competitive rates in the market at the time. The install went smoothly and I was producing a peak of 5.6 kw in no time. I had no headache on the permitting side as well. I always look for genuine people to work with, folks that I can think of as my friends and throughout the time since my install, I have found folks at highlight solar have been always available and easy to reach. There was an incident recently because of which one of the panels was not performing optimally. Dean was very responsive and sent his crew to investigate the situation the same day. 2 weeks in and one the low performing panels has been replaced.I wish Dean, Samir, Chris, and Sam the best. Will be reaching out to them within the year to have new battery installed.

Several years ago Highlight Solar installed solar panels on my roof. I Couldn't be happier. They did an impeccably professional and detailed job with everything, even the install of a new breaker box. About two years ago I had a guy clean out my rain gutters and he noticed that a panel was cracked. (I often wondered if he didn't sit on it). I contacted Highlight and they replaced it right away. A couple of months ago I noticed that a second panel was now cracked. (the two were probably damaged at the same time) Anyway, I again contacted Highlight Solar, and again they came through for me. It took a while to locate a compatible panel, but the company kept in contact with me with updates. If anyone is thinking about installing solar for their home, I highly recommend Highlight Solar. 5 stars for sure.

We didn't end up installing solar panels after learning that our roof only has around 5-10 years of life left. However, I'd still like to leave a good review. Leo was very responsive and helpful. I requested several quotes with different panels, and he's able to return the email within a day. We will definitely reach out if we need solar panels in the future.

This company does not have proper licensing. The salesman needs a license and it must be connected to the company. My review is not hasty because the sales person has to be on company license listing as well and that is where I look. Please see attached photo because he cannot sell for this company if is not connected to Highlight Solar license.The CSLB says that HIS licenses are required and it does not look like this company has any HIS license connected and never has. The process is formal and includes background check and finger printing. I looked at their license on the CSLB and the company has no licensed sales person listed or associated with the company. Then he tried to sell me a battery a couple times even though I did not ask for it. How can he legally sell a battery and solar for this company if he does not have a license associated?This a CA state requirement according to the state licensing board and they are in violation. Be very careful and do your due diligence and read the solar customer guide! There is no excuse for not having proper licensing.

Avoid. As the only of out five bidders on the project refused to provided transparency and breakdown the bid into materials and labor. Insisted insisted this is how their "business" works and provided just one lump sum for the bid. Upon second request for a more detailed quote said, quote "We wish you the best of luck on your Solar Project.Seems like our emails are going nowhere"Not a trustworthy business. AVOID!
