PLEASE DO NOT RENT FROM HERE!!! Would give a 0 star rating if possible. Genuinely one of the most scalp ripping places my family has ever encountered. I wouldn't wish this experience upon my worst enemy. Essentially waited 2.5 hours for a car, they claimed to be cleaning the car, but when it finally arrived, the seats were still wet and the car was dirty with visible dirt streaks around the whole care with a pungent mildew musty stench as well as parts of the seats missing so I don't know why we waited a couple hours for the piece of garbage this car was. However, then they gave a replacement car (same model) immediately which was still a little dirty with parts in and around the car missing but not wet at least. However, this further confused us how they had an immediate replacement either way since we literally waited hours for a car. I don't know what kind of regraded piece of garbage this rental place is, but it needs to be shut down.

Budget @SJC was pretty easy the longest part of the process was the counter. Beyond that the pick up easy the drop off easy and the shuttle to and from was great. You just have to read. :)

I will never rent from Budget again. It took 48 hours for Budget to check in my returned car at San Jose CA airport. Budget refused to me rent me a car that I had prepaid for at my next destination in Colorado Springs CO later the same day, leaving me stranded. After two hours of trying to resolve the issue & Budget customer service hanging up on me I had to end up renting a car from a different company.I am very disappointed & unhappy with the inconvenience & stress I went through & will tell everyone I know that renting a car from Budget is not a good choice.UPDATE:Budget did check in the car, but it was 48 hours later. This process needs to be improved to accommodate back to back car rentals.

I rented a Camry or Similar thru Costco at a very good rate for a week at SJC. I was given a fairly new malibu. It was freshly washed but they left water spots on the mirrors and back window, which I had to clean The car was comfy and stable. Steering light, brakes firm. There was no lack of power from the 1.5l turbo 4, with a CVT. I felt that the gas mileage should have been more than 30 mpg on the road. Trunk could only be opened via the key fob, very secure. Glove box lacked a lock. Headlights seemed a little weak for the open road. A computer read the return mileage and the level of gas at SJC upon return. No interaction by Budget attendant needed. I did feel a bump a few times when stopped, like I got tapped from behind. I did bring this to their attention. No idea if this complaint got addressed. For the price I would rent again.

The car I first received was not what I had ordered. But that pickup truck had a mechanical issue, so I finally did get exactly what I wanted. All staff members were friendly, cordial and professional. There were not enough staff people at the counter, so the level of pressure and overwork was evident. I had to wait about 25 minutes to get the rental completed. Otherwise, the rental process was okay. The car was in great shape and drovw well. No issues there at all.

Minimal wait time to check-in and get the keys for the rental car. Was able to get a Chevrolet Malibu car. The only con is it is a gas guzzler but otherwise it was a sturdy and reliable vehicle. The associate didn't push when I declined extra coverages or services, which is great. Love the convenience of the bus from the San Jose Airport to and from the rental car center. It was a bit confusing trying to find where to park the rental but it worked out. Another con would probably be the price - the price for the rental was a bit higher than one for LA, even though it was less days for San Jose.

When I got to Budget and was waiting in line for a car, someone from AVIS pulled me over and said they were also able to assist me. The customer service was fine, nothing fancy, but not horrible either. However, none of the 4 people in our party were impressed, in the least, with the vehicle we received. It was dirty and seemed like a cheap model. It only had less than 40k miles on it, and it was not in great shape. It is definitely not a good SUV to go into the mountains with... The engine had to work SO hard to get up the smallest of hills. Fairly often, the transmission shifts really hard too. There were air seal leaks around the bottom sides of the windshield. The passenger side was so noisy that we had to shove a piece of clothing in the corner to get rid of the noise. I was just glad it kept us safe, and we made it back without something major going wrong.

My flight time in the air was 1 hour 40 minutes but I waited for over 2 hours in the line to get my pre-reserved rental. No explanation was given for the delay and there appeared to be only 1 person handling the process.Several of the folks ahead of me were offered either electric only cars or something other than what they had reserved. The delay put all of us into the teeth of rush hour causing missed appointments at the end of what should have been a short drive IF the check out process had run smoothly.

I had a tight arrival turnaround, so when I saw the reviews here I was a little concerned. My experience could not have been been different. I landed, already has a text from Budget that my car was ready for me. I walked over to the rental car area, went immediately up to the 4th floor, my contract was on the wall, grabbed it and went to my assigned car, which was clean and ready to go. A+. Never even stopped to smell the roses. Van had less than 4000 miles on it. My recommendation is to actually follow the steps by registering with Fastbreak, filling out all the info and setting it all up in the app. You'll have a great experience.

There is only one person on Budget and one on Avis on a Friday night. And there are long lines of people waiting for services. What a joke!!!!Btw, they provide slow service as well.

I do rent cars at different locations quite regularly. I had not used Budget before. I chose them because they had a vehicle I needed at a value price at the location I needed it. It was a wonderful experience from checking in to dropping off. The car, a Jeep Wrangler Plugin Hybrid, was very nice. Rather new, clean and fun to drive.

Budget gave us a nice Prius, a 2020 (!), we were the last rental for this car before it’s to be sold. It drove perfectly and got excellent gas mileage, very clean although basic (manual seat controls, no auto-sensing to open doors). The staff were efficient at pick-up, and downright amazingly friendly and helpful at drop-off in San Jose, CA. The price was better than all other options.

Airport staff was excellent! She was very friendly and nice. For the car I got, it was dirty that I had to clean it myself. Food was all over in the front. Front glass had green paint stain that bothered me to drive. Garage was dark and it was later at night so that I could not see until drive off the airport. It was short trip so I did not have time to come back. Cleaning clew needs to clean better. We do not want to see food splashed all over

Budget/Avis (same company now) is known for having long waits at SJC. I forgot, and ended up waiting 2 hours in line to pick up my car. The guy in front of me said, "I have to do Avis/Budget because I work for Amazon, and I go through this every month I come here because we have a contract with them. I go through this every month so I expect it, but it's still hard." All other rental car companies had no line!!!Some good news: As the Budget/Avis counter person told another customer, "This is not the car you reserved, but this is the car you get." I reserved an economy and got "stuck" with a new Ford Bronco. I wasn't happy about it but I accepted it. I ended up loving it!

The employees I interacted with were absolutely great: professional & very competent. Seems well managed. I felt really lucky to deal with people who knew what they were doing. (In this day and age, that seems to be a special thing). I did notice multiple cars were dinged up, though the business did carefully mark them prior to re-renting them back out. Edit: yes, the line was an hr long. That seems to be a new norm in the car rental business. I think it was a manager who did step up to check us out.
